8. The Sumerians - Fall of the First Cities

I'm excited to share the newest video episode of Fall of Civilizations with all of you! This was one of my all-time favourite episodes to write, and it's been a real pleasure to return to it. The world of the Sumerians can now come to life using cutting edge 3D recreations of ancient Sumer, from the Iraqi digital architecture artist Kais Jacob Ishak, and with exclusive drone photography of Ur shot by Iraqi photographer Mohaymn Alwasmi. The episode also includes some digitally recoloured photographs of Iraq in the 1930s, to give a sense for the traditional rhythms of life on the ancient Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
This has been the episode with the highest budget so far, and it's only been possible with the support of people like you. I really hope you enjoy it, and thank you for continuing to support the show through these tough times.
Paul
Hi, Paul! I was attracted to your video on Sumer, not by the information on Sumer itself, but by your theory that the great flood story came from people slowly fleeing rising sea levels in the Gulf, and they could have originally come from the vicinity of India.
Could you please provide your references. I need more information. Of the books you provide for further reading, Ancient Iraq alone appears to discuss this, but not in any detail. There are footnotes not available to me with sources on part of the ideas you presented. Could you please provide footnotes 5 to 8. But I'm as interested in where the people came from.
Thanks!
