2. The Bronze Age Collapse - Mediterranean Apocalypse

Sometime around the year 1100 BC, right at the end of the Bronze Age, a wave of destruction washed over the Eastern Mediterranean. It wiped whole civilizations off the map, and left only ash and ruin in its wake. This catastrophe, known as “the Late Bronze Age Collapse”, has become one of the enduring puzzles of archaeology. I want to explore how so many societies could collapse all at once, and seemingly without warning, as well as examine the lessons it might teach us in our increasingly globalised and interconnected world.

You noted at the end that some of the sea people survived and became involved in an ancient rivalry with their neighbors, the Israelites. Those were the Palestinians, at least as we know them today. Well, this is July 20 25 and we are witnessing the genocide of the Palestinians by their ancient rivals, in this case, the Zionists.

This was the first episode I heard of your podcast and I loved it! Not only do I have now a greater understanding of the Fall of Troy (and Hattusa, Mycenae, and the rest), but it helps to put into perspective what we don't get in History class in High School: that these civilizations were actually contemporary and dealing with the sames issues at the same time. I also liked how the (most likely) conclusion to be derived for the end of the Bronze Age is that several things happened in this period to hasten the collapse of the kingdoms: warfare, new weaponry, climate change, migration. We tend to look for single answer, when it's actually a combination of factors. Thank you for the lessons!

Hello Paul ... very well done and excellent descriptions of the events that all led to the Collapse of many Ancient Civilizations. I really enjoyed learning more about the details of ‘what & how’ occurred at that time. Of course, I am also excited to learn about the ‘why’ this collapse took place. That is, why God allowed the cataclysmic chain of events (e.g. Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, drought, famine, etc) occurred. Truly, God has intentionally hit the ‘reset’ button before as a result of His children’s evil ways and behavior, along with selfishly choosing to believe there is no need to serve and honor God. Again, it is clear to me that this is the ‘WHY’ and it will not be long before we all realize that this was the true reason WHY all of these collapse of Ancient Civilizations truly occurred. And, I encourage you to do the same by continuing this video with a supplementary version discussing the WHY. Thank you! 😉
