Opinions Solicited

Hey all, hope you're doing well. As I said in the last post, I've been taking a while to figure out how to proceed with the next bits of code that I'll be working on. In the meantime, since I don't really have a ready topic, I thought that it would be nice to ask you all what you would like me to write about for my next post.

I thought about putting a poll that you could vote on but I didn't want to put anything too limiting out there. So, instead, please let me know in the comments what it is you'd like to read. This is for the standard tier, meaning that it ought to be something related to the running of the site, technical stuff, server stuff, thoughts about tech, or anything along those lines. Could be about something I've worked on in the past or talked about that you'd like to know more about. I'm open to suggestions and will make a decision depending on whatever is pitched here.

I'll be looking to post by the end of the month, so there's no real rush. Feel free to think it over and I'll reply to comments if I need clarification.

I'm a fan of getting more into detail about the storylist backend. It's been a mystery on how it worked since it was tied to another user managing it for the longest time, and now it's new, shiny, and Teruyo's problem to deal with.

Moral

Hey, I'm generally interested in knowing what users would like changed or improved on the site so thanks. However, editing is something that's already incorporated. I talked about it in the last post for 2020.

- The possibility of text editing support? I know this is controversial but not being able to edit posts in-place on a fanfic site is pretty painful. - How the process of flypapering and catering to newbies is going.

I don't have any good ideas to add, but I am interested in a few of Mask's, especially > The ideal community; i.e., your most ideal vision for THP in as explicit detail as possible.

Eternity

I've been trying to think about it for the past couple of days, but trying to come up with things that are 'fitting' seems to be a blocking factor, so I think I'll just toss out any old shit and let you sift. Suggestions include: * Speculation on why imageboards are intimidating to the uninitiated, either from a conceptual or UX perspective. * General opinions on the imageboard model — maybe with a bit of comparison to the alternatives. * The ideal community; i.e., your most ideal vision for THP in as explicit detail as possible. * The history and inner workings of the mystery box. * Your current thoughts on the division of the boards and speculative possibilities on their future handling. * A history of hidden features/easter eggs on the site. * What being admin of a site means in practical terms; e.g., investment, daily cleanup, etc. * Thoughts on the adoption of newer image/video formats like WebM and WebP. * The daily struggle of browser compatibility with the site. * JQuery, its usage, and why external dependencies are icky. * Thoughts on federation and federated web services like Mastodon and Matrix. * Usenet shitposting. * Why THP wouldn't work as a BBS (besides activity-related reasons). * The difficulties of catering to smelly dumb mobile scum. * How the storylist works on the backend. That's all I could really come up with after racking my brain. Maybe there's something usable there?
