The Sound of a Lasgun
Added 2018-11-18 00:03:25 +0000 UTCStarting to play around with sound ideas for lasguns. I was wondering if there's any examples in existing 40k games/media that you guys particularly like? Or even examples from non 40k stuff.

its described in the books and fluff as a a crack sound or the snap of super heated air.

2018-11-21 12:33:20 +0000 UTCI think it sounds most appropriate in Space Marine or Dawn of War. It just sounds like a "hiss" or "fizz" as the air is suddenly superheated.

2018-11-19 07:03:20 +0000 UTCI prefer the ones from dow 1. Fire warriors sound fine but i personally imagine it as something else. As for lascannons (in case it ever comes up) tge ones from dow 1 are without a doubt the best example in my mind. Though you could try eternal crusade as well. The weapons in that sound sweet. Especially the eldar weapons.
2018-11-18 23:24:00 +0000 UTCLore definitely has a cracking noise I would say it has a crack and maybe a whir or whoosh noise as the powerpaks recharge the next shot
2018-11-18 16:47:59 +0000 UTCIn the books, IIRC, they're described as making this 'crack' sound which I always seemed interesting.
2018-11-18 06:48:54 +0000 UTCLike a whip sound, except instead of "whoosh-crack" it should be "zzz-crack" or tseew-crack, pew-crack etc. From far away you would hear only the crack, but the laser itself could make a SciFi sound. I have faith in you! The Emperor Protects, Astartes.

2018-11-18 06:43:21 +0000 UTCI like the idea from the Dark Heresy roleplaying games. There the sound is described like a whiplash :)

2018-11-18 00:48:56 +0000 UTCThere's some in DoW 1 and 2, although they differ quite a bit. https://youtu.be/uBN5AwkfRnc?t=174 is from the PS2 Fire Warrior game. I've always though they'd sound something like Star Wars blasters but that's probably not right.
