Ep03 Storyboard Finished

Storyboard for Ep03 finished. Have moved onto modelling one of the extra weapons needed. A quite large weapon...

Also, I entered Astartes into a competition to win a Rokoko motion capture suit, which would be a major asset going forward as future episodes will have more character animation. The thing is, Death of Hope won their last giveaway so I doubt they'll give this suit to another 40K project :D

What's your storyboarding process like? Pen and paper or tablet? Do you have a template that you use?

Dave Weinstock

Thanks Victor! Fingers crossed...

Astartes

Erf, such a shame if you don't receive this Rokoko ; Honestly, compare to all other animations from fan or official GW universe, you're the most realistic. Finally normal sized boltguns ! Same for the space marines ! Keep up the good work :p

Hey that's a nice idea BathSith. I couldn't promise how exciting it'd be haha, and I do want to avoid spoilers... documenting how I complete a scene/shot from start to finish could be fun. I'll have to give it some thought!

Astartes

Haha yep I believe that after working with it a few times. It's amazing how bad raw mo-cap can look! But I do find it helpful as a basic layer to work off of.

Astartes

Thanks mate! Yeah the mo-cap would definitely have it's own challenges and take some time to figure out. In the long run I think it'd help me with planning out scenes quicker, even if the mo-cap has to be heavily edited in the end.

Astartes

Haha I knew I was leaving myself open to that as I typed it!

Astartes

I'm not sure, but the suit is aimed at small teams or solo artists so I think I have that in my favor.

Second this - be interesting bro see your method behind the great work!

If you got the time, I would love to see a vlog of your work in progress, that way you can have content uploaded on a regular bases and not force perfection. This way, your audience get to follow your journey on YouTube channel more frequently, it means more content for patreon supporters and as for you, the task becomes easier as the vlog or podcast could be about anything at all and doesn’t have to be Warhammer related. Maybe something exclusive behind the scenes or tutorials with a high backer fee then 10 dollars, say 50 dollars. If you don’t win it! That way you can raise money to buy a Roko motion capture suit in no time and your high fee backers can learn from your experience and you can teach your work. I would be the first one to sign up for that. Good luck with the giveaway! May the Emperor be with you! :D

Also, "quite a large weapon", I wonder what that's going to be? Some heavy weapon, I guess.

scodiak

An animator told me once that usually you end up with approximately 10-20% of the original mocap, because you have to clean, polish and fix so many keys. So, I am not sure if this is really going to help y, because your animations already look great and natural. But it could help spreading the word about your project and get more attention.

scodiak

bro I'm sure you've got it in the bag

Also, hate too be THAT guy, but Death of Hope is technically 30k... lol, just kidding.

Doodarino

The animation I see in the 1st and 2nd episode are absolutely stellar. Personally I don't think you need the mo-cap, that comes with its own set of challenges. But I am speaking from my own experience, I'm sure you know what you're doing! Cheers!

I'm sure if it's good enough they will. Who do you reckon you'd be up against for it?
