[Tier 3] Going Seventeen 2019 EP.24 & 25 SVT Playground & SVT Secret Santa #1

Uhm, one of our favourite episodes so far everyone (and d'Some's definitive favourite episode XD).

For one, this just grabbed us by the collar and pulled us right into the middle of the memory lane with the oldschool playground (though not completely accurate), the games, and the snacks we both loved and actively enjoyed.

Secondly,, the way SVT members guided us through the different activities with genuine excitement XD was satisfying to say the least.

And lastly, the editing itself. Them hard cuts were HILARIOUS.

Inevitably, these two episodes have tons of very specific K-references and wordplays you may not understand, so feel free to ask us if you have any questions :D

And we'll be back with the second part of secret santa very soon :)

In the meantime, we look forward to hearing YOUR stories :D:D

Love <3

Back in the philippines, my place did not have a playground like that (only nice neighborhoods/subdivisions get it). instead, we had a basketball ring in the middle of the street ^_^

GOSE Editing is TOPTIER HILARIOUS

i'm a little late to this but when i lived in korea, i used to live in mokdong so i would see this playground all the time! such classic fun games that they played :)

If from Norway and when I was younger we used to play a lot of tag, cop and robber and of course red light green light. We also had something similar to the can kicking game called "the box"

Seventeen and their butt punishments, even now, in big old 2025 they hit each other in the face with their asses😭

Fay

I learnt so many Korean childhood games because of SVT! Please react to SVT BEST Friends EP31 & 32 one day! The concept is similar - nostalgic games you play in school, but with a whole lot of chaos.

When I was growing up, we had a lot of kids of similar ages on the same block and all our backyards were connected/no one had put up fences yet in the neighborhood, so we would play big neighborhood-wide games of Kick the Can where we would sneak behind and between the houses, hide behind garden beds and trees, etc. very similar to this episode. It kind of makes me sad when I go home because everyone has fenced off their yards now.

Anna

Oooh yes we had this in India too

We used to play something called red poison, so basically there is a tagger/witch and everyone would hold the fingers of the witch. The witch would then start telling a story (trying to be ghostly/evil) and the minute the witch mentions the word red poison, everyone would have to let go of the witch's fingers and run. It essentially becomes a word triggered game of tag, used to be super fun.

I have to say nowadays I don't see kids play these games as much, other than red light green light. I have to say, after ipad and video games started to be used every day and being hit by COVID, most of the elementary kids probably don't really know alot of playground games. I grew up in Taiwan and the US. I have to say Asia tends to have a lot more small, short games for tight spaces. In contrast, the US tends to play more sports or field games. It really has to do with the space where people live. In Taiwan, we have games like Freeze tag and 1,2,3 wooden man (red light green light), wall tag. Students in Taiwan have only 10 min break between classes so their games to tend to be shorter. They also take naps right after lunch so they don't have any long recess. While in the US elementary school you have 20 min or 30 min recess so kids will play longer games like Lava Monster ( similar to escape), Fire in the Forest, 4 Corners, Capture the flag/ shoe. Growing up in the US I remember playing a lot of hand-clapping games, basketball, soccer, and jump rope because I didn't speak that much English back then.

Im from California and playground games were "Boys Chase Girls" and "Girls Chase Boys". There would be between 10 and 20 kids. We would count, 1,2,3 then everyone would break out into running and the tagger would sprint to the nearest boy or girl and if the capture them they force a kiss on them! 🤣😅😅🤣 qt that age it was the ultimate punishment to have to kiss someone and to get kissed. And it was usually on the cheek. Neve Ron the mouth. Cuz ew. 😅

The episodes get SOOOO much better!!! I cant wait, there's so much!!!!

SVT and Going Seventeen's production team, who are independent production, and not from the company itself have such great relationship and their teamwork gets better each episode, including the editing and additional comments on the videos from the production team is so fun to see going ahead.

I'm from Syria and we used to play a game of tag that we called police & thieves where basically the police chase the thieves and when they tag them they send them to prison and you can free your fellow thieves.

Magic Shop in SVT space

In France, we also have variations of the tag (called Cat, sometimes Wolf), can kicking and red light/green light (it's 1,2,3... Sun ! in France). Another very classic game was the Postman where people sit in a circle singing a song while a "postman" walks around and secretly drops an object behind a players back. Once the player discovers the object, he has to catch the postman before they take the player's spot in the circle. My favorite game was definitely tag though 😄. Our playgrounds were also very similar to the one in thus episode, with more or less equipment depending on how big it was, and they were made with sand/dirt which is very rare nowadays.

i grew up playing red light, green light a LOT lmao when i first saw it in korean variety shows i just assumed yeah ofcourse everyone played it 🙂‍↕️ but later found out it's not a universal thing 😭

Sam sam (Lan zhan)

I’m from the Philippines and we played red light, green light! Although it’s called Pepsi 7-Up here (idk why it was named that way 😂) We also have this game called Agawan Base (Taking Bases) where you’re divided into two groups and each group has a base. You assign 1 member to guard the base while the rest try to capture opponents by tagging them. Those captured will then become prisoners of the opposing team. You can only free them by “cutting” the opponent’s hold on them and you can only win by touching the other team’s base.

yay, two episodes again, we're being so spoiled hehe!! here in canada we played grounders (which i see someone else commented about haha) and like you guys, i always think about how dangerous that was! the playground by my house growing up was quite high and the tagger had to keep their eyes closed... i actually hated being the tagger haha

zoey ro

I'm also Canadian and our rules were the same as you describe. For some reason, we called the game Sandman.

Final Chapter

Oh we definitely had variations of the games YOU mentioned as well! :D This is so cool!! Isn't it interesting how different parts of the world would end up playing similar games somehow? :)

HS

The games we used to play XD If you think back it's always so crazy dangerous

HS

This is my go-to episode to rewatch when I just wanna laugh. And yes, the cuts! The editing itself is funny, but also it makes all jokes go by fast (faster for me who has to read the english CC but wont pause) that I don't always catch everything... so I always find something new to laugh at whenever I rewatch. 😆 I'm from the Philippines, and playgrounds here are usually found in schools or in wealthier neighborhoods, so we used to play tons of games like these right on the streets instead. At least back in the day haha! From what I saw in this episode, I say the game that feels most familiar are the tag games, though with whole different variations. My favorite is called langit-lupa (which literally means “heaven-earth”), just a simple game of tag where you can only be tagged if you’re standing on the ground and anything elevated is a safe area. One of the most popular here is called patintero, which I’ve heard is kind of similar to Korea’s squid? Except patintero is played on a rectangular court, not a squid-shaped one. Anyway, totally enjoyed watching it with you guys!

i forgot how fast-paced this ep was but lmaooo I love the hard cuts too. Happy to see these eps give a nostalgic vibe!! (and thank you for doing 2 eps again! carats are so spoiled, i appreciate it so much) Also thank you for correcting the subs as well (i just understood the seungkwan wifi joke in this rewatch omg im dying laughing 😂😂😂 that's such an underrated joke) I think I used to play some variation of the escape one but for the most part, the Korean games are really different from the games where im from. So cool to hear about different childhood games from different place, they can get really creative and fun!!

konekochan

I'm from Canada, the version of the escape game I played was called Grounders. The goal wasn't to escape the playground, just not get caught by the tagger, who could either catch you by physically tagging you or calling out if you were walking on the ground instead of the equipment. Also, we're getting to episodes of Going Seventeen I haven't watched yet, so looking forward to seeing them for the first time with you!

Brianna E

from this time on, s.coups was on a hiatus due to mental health so you won't see him for multiple episodes apart from the pre-recorded ones.

Skye

i'm from Mexico, and the games we normally would play tag, cops and thieves, and there was this crazy one we would play at the school basketball court (concret, outside), where we would form two parallel lines and hold hands; one person from one team would run towards two people of the other team and break their "link", thus taking the members until you've taken all of the opposite team's members. i don't know if i made myself clear because it's been a WHILE since i've played outside games, but i remember that one being so rough, some kids would get injured from falling on concrete (i think it happened to me once😭). this EP was so fun because you get to see them being so competitive and they don't play about their bets. can't wait for the next ones.

ema - simplywoozis

so happy you're posting both episodes at the same time. thank you for this!

amare

I’m from Denmark and we used to play both the can hide and seek game and the first game where you play tag on a playground and you can touch the ground just not with our eyes closed . 😄 our playgrounds were very similar to the one seventeen played in. 😄 so fun to be reminded of this again since I did it soooo much growing up. 😅

eunbi DK

Playground is when you really see how GoSe becomes the way it is today. The PDs have been editing more to Seventeen's specific humor, and from now on you'll see how it takes shape into what we know and love today.
