Early Access: SVT - Fearless (Comeback Show)

Here's our reaction to SEVENTEEN's Fearless! :D

Amazing (unofficial) sequel to Fear!

Enjoy <3

Early Access: SVT - Fearless (Comeback Show)

Comments

Reading your comment and what Han-C and D’Some pointed out in the lyrics about being spitefully determined reminded me of what Woozi said in Nana Tour about their trainee days. How they were going through a brutal training period with uncertain future (not even knowing whether they were going to debut at all) and how they endure all that with wrath/anger.

I love when people comment on 17 specific dancing! having that many members in sync is cool but there's also more to it. they look more in sync because they all dance similarly and were trained w/ the same stylization. even if not member’s position there was a clear focus on training all together with specific aesthetics, power, control, etc., which is different than teaching basic technique focusing on improving/toning back those who stick out, like many other companies (tho jype is different cuz they're big on individual personality). but I also think 17 HAD to do this because there's so many people. if they weren’t on the same skill level/style, it would be seem chaotic and distract from the performance. even if they were dancing in sync, some would stick out because of different lines, intensity, etc, so its really smart training on pledis’ end. plus pledis training was brutal pre-2014 youth laws... I think it also helps this specific group of people trained for a while together (except the8. but he already had dance/martial arts bg, so it was probably easier to adapt to a new style simply because of body awareness). I've realized a lot of companies have people in/out with previous training elsewhere, or none at all, so its hard to get 1 group in training together for long enough to match. especially if people enter debut track right away w/o getting used to new company’s vibe. but for 17 the avg amount of time together (~2.5 yrs) was longer than other groups I follow, like skz, who I realized with time were basically thrown together except chan lol (even han was only there ~1.5 yrs before being chosen for predebut show and he was there second longest). but overall, there’s less difference between 17 dance members skill/style vs other members, which contributes to their synchronicity too

This is Seventeen's "going to war" song lol. Fear was the title track for Seventeen's 3rd full album An Ode, which was made during a time where they were kind of searching themselves (Fear was inspired by their own struggles and confusion in terms of creative direction though they gave it a romantic spin to make it more relatable). The album starts very somber but gets progressively happier, literally ending with a track called Happy Ending. Fearless is the first track on the album that immediately followed An Ode, called Henggarae, which came out during Covid times. It works as the direct sequel to An Ode's happy ending (they ve found the answer to their struggles and now they're ready to take on the world). It's also a segue into the rest of Henggarae which is all about giving comfort and support to young adults who feel confused and directionless, like Seventeen themselves felt during An Ode.

Really enjoying the Seventeen reactions! Can’t go wrong with them and really recommend all the performance videos!! No one does it like SVT

Thank you so much for reacting and taking the time to explain the lyrics. Seventeen are truly masters when it comes to artistry and performance. Patiently looking forward to more Seventeen content! (I'm especially excited for game caterers!) As for song suggestions, Id like to suggest something a little different and recommend Pretty U. Its older but its the song that got them their first music show win and I feel like it really defined what Seventeen would become. Also the choreography is so stinking adorable and unique it remains one of my favorites in all of kpop to this day. I'd love to hear yalls thoughts on it!

I am so glad that you took the turn to check Fearless after Fear. I have so much to say so bear with me🥹 Fearless is the first track that kickstart their 7th mini album, Titled Henggarae 2019 (헹가래 - Title track Left & Right). As Seventeen album have a way of cohesive story telling on where the tracklist itself serves as chapters within the storybooks, Fearless serving as the first track in the album to show up the uprising of Seventeen who were swallowed in the poisoned. Henggarae album is a direct release after An Ode 2019(Title Track - 독: fear). Fearless as you noticed, celebrates that your poisonous self who you thought were malicious was just you torturing yourself inside your own thought. Fearless is for when you woke up from darkness and learn to live with it. I love that you point out 독을 품고서 (embracing the poison) in the lyrics as that is the exact core message in the song itself. And Henggarae as an album showcase Seventeen healing Journey after hard time in 2019-2020. Their comeback show is a special 1 hour showcase-like content from mnet. And in promotion were originally only to have My My and Left & Right stage for music show, performance leader Hoshi suggested them to perform Fearless as well. This is their first mega crew performance and its not even title track, well given seventeen never discriminates any song in their career and always orchastrate the suitable performance to give justice to the songs, (notable concert stage for b side: Shadow, Flower, Spell, Back 2 Back). Fearless was performed on Covid era where they were never done in front of crowd and after so long, finally was included in their 2024 Right Here tour setlist. Have fun in the journey guys! Love, a carat. And happy carat day my dear Carats who are reading this.

Another fun fact, on top of all the comments, this song was not a title song of the album after all. This performance was purely created to surprise Carats during the Comeback show, which Hoshi insisted they have to do despite the tough schedule. 행가래 is the name of the album with the title of Left & Right. 세븐틴 영상 너무 잘보고 있어요!! 음악, 퍼포먼스, 예능 모두 보면 볼수록 실망하지 않을테니 앞으로도 많은 리뷰 부탁합니다!!^^

the funny thing is that during this time, there are rumors that seventeen will compete in kingdom. while everyone was stirred, they dropped this instead lol

wow im so glad you guys watched this performance because like you said HOW IS THIS JUST A COMEBACK SHOW! I haven't been able to see them live yet but when I do I hope to see this along with falling flower (a girl could dream). Also the main reason we say this is a sequel to Fear is because of the bridge. Not sure if you caught it but they used the intro line of fear that was originally sang by Joshua, but this time it was sang by Jeonghan. (This is the part when he then runs up that human stair and falls back) Svt are truly beautiful storytellers. Even if you don't connect the message to Fear, I think Fearless really stands on its own. But loved hearing the way you guys connected everything!

For another pair of songs which are clearly related, they have the songs A-TEEN and 9-TEEN (OSTs for the web drama A-TEEN)! A-TEEN was one of the songs they performed in Killing Voice. But even without direct sequels Seventeen love referencing their old songs in newer ones - for example the song 'Lie Again' has a clear lyric reference to 'Don't Wanna Cry.' That might be a fun one to react to :)

seeing fearless live during their concert was truly breathtaking… i was GAGGED throughout every moment of the performance

sofea khaliesah

Yes, they did have a whole comeback show just for them and this particular album, which is called Henggarae. They also did it when they released their TEEN,AGE album, so this performance is the opening for their second comeback show with Mnet. This song is one of my favorite songs they've ever performed, and when it was released, Carats were waiting impatiently for them to perform Fear and Fearless back to back, and we finally got it in one of their online concerts, and recently in their 17 Right Here Tour! Also, I don't know if you caught it, but they actually used Fear's lyrics in the bridge (Joshua's first part in Fear, and here it's Jeonghan's part) and added a new line that kind of contradicts it(?), which I personally think makes this song even more powerful and just made it more obvious that this song is the continuation of Fear. I love your interpretation of the lyrics, especially because you guys are native speakers and I've always wondered if there's any mistranslation or even other interpretations of lyrics that a foreigner or non-native Korean speaker might miss!
