I'm so happy yall are getting into Seventeen!! Unit Videos Please!

I love the deep dive into their lyrics! I'd love to see y'all react to some of their live performances after y'all get to know their music a little more. Something about when they put everything together (their crazy live vocals, their super in sync dancing, their energy), its incredible! (Maybe their Lollapolooza performance? Its recent and not as long as a full concert) Thank you for loving Seventeen! Looking forward to whatever you decide to react to next!

justJess

Wow thank you for this!

And just to add.. if you wanna watch any Seventeen concert. I suggest below: Be the sun seoul (2022) Follow Again [encore concert in Incheon, Korea or Nissan Stadium Japan] (2024)

Thank you guys for the lyrics explanation ! The song makes a lot more sense to me now, and feels a lot more tragic too. I love that you pointed how seemingly "simple" Seventeen's lyrics are. Being able to paint a beautiful imagery or a complex story with mundane, everyday words is actually a lot more difficult than it seems and it makes their lyrics that much more poignant and relatable. I really hope you can check out some of their more lyrically-focused b-sides like Yawn or Heaven's Cloud at some point as well, their storytelling is really immaculate !

I am so glad to have found your contents and subscribed further into it. I love your lyrics analysis as it gives more context and makes us international fans appreciate more their songs. Thank youu!

this is what i found in a website: "In Greek mythology, the stag beetle is the metamorphosis of Poseidon’s grandson, Cerambus, who was a talented musician. After Cerambus forsook the kindness of nymphs who were enraptured by his music, they turned him into a stag beetle, and let his livestock disappear into an oncoming snowstorm. The connection to the myth is strengthened by the fact that Seventeen are musicians, making the nymphs in the story their fans, whom they are in danger of taking for granted."

I might be wrong cos I have only been a Carat since 2023. But I think that “beetle” might be a scorpion?

I love this comment hehe,, Maybe one day they can watch Hit The Road, it really showed us a lot about what they went through at the time. Also would be a nice lead in to Us, Again which I would love to see a reaction to - such a pretty song.

I love your reaction to this! Thank you for all the lyric explanations too. I like that you call them poetic - slightly unrelated fun fact: the concept of the album this song comes from had references to dead poets society heh. Woozi has spoken about their mindset during fear (https://twitter.com/woozimedia/status/1784998801650147794) and I think it's interesting to hear - he wasn't sure if people would understand them but I think you guys really did! He's mentioned a few times that it almost feels like the song was ahead of its time in terms of their sound (some carats did not vibe with the "darker" concept and music, and in some ways they may have been able to pull it off better later in their career) but that it was also something that they could only do then, and what felt right for them to release at the time. Can't wait to see what you react to next :D

gigglyseal

yeah the songs they put out are purely things they want to say and express

I felt like wanna hug you (with consent) both so much for touching on the lyrics aspects! Especially when you convey the correct direction of the lyrics in Korean perspective really makes me happy as I would like as many international fan understand the depth of the lyrics instead of the surface direct translation. First of all I would like to point out that Seventeen songs is very k-pop centric. No matter how many western vibe nor style they creating, there is always "K" felt strong attached to them. And the reason is because the story telling is done in a very Korean way. The lyrics was so Korean that it requires you to sit down interpret instead of translate. And I also found that their use of english words in their lyrics was never random or just 입이 잘 붙는 use. The words is always correct to the context of the sentence and it almost felt like listening to 교포 conversation where you mix korean-english. And that makes it so special cuz trust me, I see tons of random english thrown in lyrics. Not that I hate it, sometimes my polyglot brain just wont justify but thats just my ocd lol. When I first listen to 독: fear. it actually the time when I finally realize how honest seventeen is when writing music. I say this because I am a Carat since debut and Seventeen debuting as self-produced idol was still felt like a concept for me. you like some idols have hip-hop or fairy concept. and everytime Woozi and other members mention that they wrote how they feel and their struggle at the time when they produce album, I actually (shamefully) felt some pretentious may still be there. But man when I listen to lyrics of Fear and the song vibe, I actually see their internal struggle were portrayed so vividly it scared me. As a fan and knowing what they went through on 2019-2020 makes it more crystal to see (you can refer to Hit The Road Seventeen Documentary for this) Its funny cuz on the surface they said that they are going for dark concept, which is usual in kpop like vampire zombie apocalips strong dark concept. But when I saw their stage, I know that they are baring their heart. and it is true to their art. And musically yes, they have so many vocal stacking in the songs. This album is created before HYBE. Which was for me the most 높은 완성도 given their small studio and resource and most ambitious album ever. and because of the limitation they have being in small company conflicted with the big ambitions and desire to achieve more in their career finally become poison to them. And tho it could be heard as conveying to lover, as my perspective it is closer to saying to Carats that their 욕심 to become greatest has now become so poisonous that it may hurt you in the process. Tho it was good intention but the pressure eventually build up and swallow you slowly into the dark. psychologically speaking that is how you progress into burnt out and depression. Seventeen wrote their life and melt their feeling into lyrics and songs. They are brutally honest yet present it in most beautiful way. I fell in love with seventeen for their lyrics and musical style. and usually I wont even comment on videos but it always makes me felt 반가워 when I see Seventeen lyrics appreciation. They always said its just K-pop, it was not that deep. But knowing Seventeen, it always is. Thank you for reading my rambling here. Looking forward to your next venture in this Seventeen Journey!

truee this is exactly how i felt. their discography is too great to not be recognised and delved deeply. the sincerity in their lyricism, instrumentals that expressed the message perfectly are somehow overshadowed by great dancing and performances (which also goes VERY well with the message). part of me hope that they would focus on svt musicality first, leaving the dance practices later. but i'm fine either way, coz i love to watch that, too 😅 all in all, i'm always grateful for the analysis, sausages! 🫶🏻

When Fear was released most reactors that I've watched focused on the visuals of the MV, the constrasts and the music but hearing you guys talk about the lyrics is beyond amazing. The way Seventeen, Woozi and Bumzu create a story through their words and music is so fascinating. I love being able to confirm what I hoped was the meaning of this song and being able to understand more of their nuances. I've been looking for unbiased reactors who haven't heard too much of SVT music who are able to see through the lens of a Korean perspective for hidden gems in their music I never really noticed were there until someone points them out... I feel Seventeen's mastery of their dancing and singing overshadows how marvelous and sincere their lyrics and music are sometimes. I know that they paint such intricate and heartfelt visions in their lyrics that you don't appreciate as much as you would have if you knew the language by heart. The way they use such simple and direct words to convey their message with so much feeling and sincerity leaves me awestruck all the time. I would like to suggest Hug, Pretty U or Home;run for your next Seventeen reaction.

carat sebongie

oh "getting closer" will be a great follow-up!

cinnamonroll

yup the lyrics are always pretty, in a direct way that everyone can understand. loved that you guys noticed that! also, when woozi is the only lyricist in the credits, carats would expect that we're gonna cry when hearing the song lol. coz it's gonna be VERY2 beautiful this song was interestingly referenced quite a bit in their b-sides. can't wait for you to get to their albums 👌🏻 about the dance practice, i think you can just start with whichever song you want to see the most. i'm fine with anything, each of their choreo is GOOD personally, i wish you would react to "Ready to Love" next. it was released when Pledis just merged with BigHit and Bang PD was said to give his touch in this song. the song is great and all, but Carats were saying it sounded different than ususal Seventeen. i kinda felt it too but not sure exactly what make it feel that way

cinnamonroll

I love every part of the song, but Joshua and Jeonghan lines were hauntingly beautiful. Plus all those vocal adlibs are nuts! Please react to Fearless next 💖

Hayy

I really love your lyrical analysis both because of your input on the Korean translation and the meaning behind the story of the song itself. Woozi writes all of the Seventeen songs (with collaboration from the other members as well) and it's so interesting that this analysis gives another look into his mindset while writing these. Since you've enjoyed a lot of their 2019 tracks so far (Home, as you mentioned in this video, and Fear as well) I would suggest checking out another song from the same album as Home, called Getting Closer (숨이 차)

When I first heard this song, I rewatched the jeonghan part multiple times and it kills me everytime. When you listen to it in the car it’s almost a whisper and even more haunting
