This is the song that got me into caratland!!! I finally became a fan of Seventeen because of this song haha you have see the dance practice for this it literally gave me a heartache (in a good way) ♡

Probably AL1 ? They had had EDM dance tracks before it but AL1 was their first deep foray into EDM where they tried different styles and vibes within the genre. And they refined this sound on the following albums and made it more "Seventeen". They've been experimenting with EDM again recently though, a lot of tracks on Seventeenth Heaven and Spill The Feels are EDM or adjacent.

They definitely has experimented a lot on edm sound, even in their bsides. I felt it strongly in a specific album too, but i can't remember which one TT

Thanks is my favorite of Seventeen's "emotional EDM" trilogy. I love the melodies (especially that prechorus/chorus) and the drop hits better than Don't Wanna Cry imo. There's actually a 4th song that could be considered a part of this "trilogy" as well. It's a b-side called Without You, a continuation to Don't Wanna Cry with a very interesting structure and many anti-drops that really took me off guard the first time I listened to it. It feels kinda like Without You was the musical experiment that led to the "final products" that are Thanks and Home.

also the choreography has thank you in sign language which makes it even more beautiful yeah this song was a thank you for carats

melis

lyrically, they said they wanted to thank this person, but they're worried that just 'thanks' wont be enough to express it. but they cannot find words to replace 'thanks' and hope it still gets conveyed without it seeming to be trivial. the song did a great job at expressing that feeling, though complicated, and made it SUPER beautiful. and the fact that the chorus(?) was just one word, which is 'thanks'? urghh i really love this song i could talk abt it all day

I love this song so much! Thank you for analyzing it and for appreciating how complex Seventeen's music is. <3 I really think Woozi is as talented a composer as Bang Chan and Hongjoong. I can't choose a favorite between Thanks, Home, and Don't Wanna Cry--they're all my favorites! I also don't have a preference for what you listen to next from Seventeen; I'm just happy you're taking the deep dive into their music and content so we can experience it again with you! :D

fun fact my pfp is from this mv!! i was so excited to see how you reacted to the 'chorus a' section and it didn't disappoint lol, i think seventeen are great at subverting expectations structure wise. their discography is so big at this point and i'm like there's so many songs i want you guys to listen to hahaha,, as some people mentioned in the last reaction, it would be cool to see you react to their first few title tracks in order starting with their debut 'adore u' :D if you're looking for something else more similar to this kind of vibe i would also recommend their japanese track 'fallin' flower'!!

ahh this is one of my favourite seventeen songs! don't wanna cry is also one of the first svt songs i fell in love with, but out of these three you've checked out so far, i think it's thanks for me. i just love the sound of it so much. it feels kinda epic in a way? like, grand. i also like how it keeps you guessing with the structure, like you explained. and each new section never disappoints, it's just all so good!

Marika

I can't begin to explain how satisfying it is every time they transition with the drop into what I call the The Chorus with the syncopated rhythm (I think you called it Chorus B)
