Granted I didn't know about the whole backstory, I am still hating myself so much right now for somehow getting myself caught up in the quokka loop and erasing my beloved childhood memory. Okay. And his inclusion in the video is very likely deliberate, on account of how Paddington Bear's origin story is being sent alone to England from Peru, with only his luggage and a note around his neck saying Please Look After This Bear, whereon he gets found by a family who take him in, love him, and name him after the station where they found him. The character was inspired by the sight of Jewish refugee children and London children being sent alone to the countryside during the Blitz in WWII, which is why Paddington Bear, like those children, has been sent away by his family for safety, and why he's also a lonely outsider when he first arrives. Which, in the context of Han becoming a trainee and feeling like an alien in a strange place, only to discover the other members of SKZ and become part of their family... yeah. This whole MV makes me feel deeply emotional along multiple axes. The visual story intersperses shots of Alien-era Han with Hold My Hand-era Han, so that his present self is functionally echoing and building on his past self's dreams. This culminates in Alien-Han bumping into HMH-Han on the street and picking up the dropped pick with the song name on it, like he's literally reaching through time to tell his past self it'll be all right. But at the same time, there's other notable visual elements, such as the colours of the bisexual flag coalescing around Han's head at exactly the point in the song where, in his stage performance, he runs through rainbow confetti, or the writing on the tapes in his jukebox, or the way the two figures merge into one at the point where he becomes his present self. It's just... So Much! It genuinely made me tear up.

Also - thank you for that translation: "Today is the last day of "the smile". " Meaning.....he's not going to use a fake smile anymore to make it seem like everything is OK. He's in a much better place now, so he doesn't need that "smile" anymore. When he smiles now, it's the real deal. Truly, THAT makes me happier than anything else. The fact that Han's stronger than he realized, and the fact that he has a strong support system that believes in him and will be there no matter what. I think he has always known that, but I also think he finally TRUSTS that. And now, dammit.....I'm tearing up again. LOVE YOU, HAN JISUNG!!

The set dressing read more like a scattered young person who still has things of their youth and things they are currently interested in all mishmashed together while they are trying to figure out their life and future.

2024-12-22 21:14:54 +0000 UTCyou guys mistaking paddington as a quokka had me DEAD๐ญ paddington is definitly a bear but i also don't know what meaning him being in this mv has lol i love the song and mv sm, the scratch in his voice yess!! thank you for the musical insights once again hehe <3 edit: i gave it a little bit of thought and paddington being there in the mv makes totally sense, because his whole story was about being an outsider, getting adopted by a family and trying to fit in. plus paddington being childlike, innocent, kind, etc. it 100% fits with hold my hand's meaning. also it being a character of our childhood for a lot of ppl, the plushy definitly brings that nostalgia!

But also every time I watch this video I cringe seeing him jump on that bed with his shoes on. I absolutely love the fuzzy hat that he's wearing. I love the singing where he's singing into the screen and it's a fisheye lens. I love that. Yeah this one is pretty much exactly the same as the concert. And lol the way D'some jumped when Han-C did that noise. No, I don't think that's a plushed quokka It looks more like a normal teddy bear that's dressed in a raincoat and hat. It just looks like a normal stuffed teddy bear ๐น. Stop not dsome getting mad that Han-C doesn't think it's a quoka. Bye bye ๐๐พ
