SKZ - I Like It

Comments

Ah, I love all our comments here, the way of tolerant discussion. And I think, this is why Chan says he generally doesn't like making statements about their songs because the idea of the songs is to leave it open for discussion, for open weighing of arguments, as people are different, the situations people are in can differ, so the needs are different and are changing even for one person in time. And it is then a matter of respect to accept these different needs, as long as you are discussing them openly. Such a 'simple' song being such a catalyst attests to Stray Kids' greatness. And that might be the true intention and idea for 3RACHA when creating the song, not making a statement concerning their own situation, experience or mind set...

I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS SONG!! I need it to go viral soooooo bad! Its catchy / poppy just so fun. I love ALL their vocals in this song too. My bad guy ranking for SKZ songs: Ex I like it Chill

Nova

happy to see others here agreeing with changbin! this ain’t a bad guy if he’s being completely upfront about it! if someone’s getting hurt on the other side, it’s not the guy’s fault.

Ceci n Ana

Definitely loved it when I heard it. Even though the protagonist is a "bad guy," it's a super catchy song and I really love that Changbin is singing the chorus. He doesn't usually as he is usually doing verses. It's a fun song!

lol its.. just there 😂😂 the other shoe also has a beer bottle. Im so.. random 😭

Agreed! Though this conversation does make me think of a video I saw on TikTok the other day of someone saying that, in their personal experience, most fuckboys are completely upfront about their intentions in exactly the way this song says - it's just that people don't take them at their word, start to construct fantasies about winning them over or things going further, and then get hurt when the original boundaries are adhered to. And while deceptive, manipulative people absolutely do exist, it's also true that some people, even when told up front that something is casual, go ahead with it in the belief that the other person will change their minds, and then get mad when they don't. IMO it's something that social pressures around relationships and permanency (and comphet tbh) can exacerbate - like, Person A likes Person B, who says they want a casual thing, but Person A has absorbed so much the idea that romance is a natural and necessary extension of intimacy (and also wants Person B sufficiently) that they think, "Oh, they say they want casual *now,* but once we spend some time together they'll naturally want more," and then feel betrayed and flabbergasted when that doesn't happen. And the gender dynamics of this are *fascinating,* because if Person A is a woman and Person B is a man, the cultural default is to assume that B has led A on - but if A is a man and B is a woman, we immediately switch it up and call A obsessive and creepy for failing to respect her clearly communicated boundary.

You said pretty much all the things I wanted to say. I also don't find this toxic or that the protagonist is inherently bad. The caveat obviously being that the intentions are properly communicated. People are always pushed into defining things right away, essentially playing house with people they don't even know properly yet. There is nothing wrong with wanting to savour the feeling and the memories while getting to know someone new. Sometimes the timing is off, sometimes the person and sometimes the plans for the future doesn't align. Better figure those things out before going official😅 Also, they're talking about not wanting to be hurt, enjoying the push and pull and not wanting things to change, not "I'm stringing you along with lies in order to keep my options open". If someone is that upfront with another and these are the terms they agree to, that person would need to take the responsibility for their own decision if they secretly hoped they could change their mind and it didn't work.

Rina

I also didn't really see it as negative, like you said it could have that connotation depending on the intentions of the protagonist but it could also be positive if it's consensually casual and just a different type of relationship.

Coco Nies

This song has really grown on me; I particularly love the lyricism in the line "I love that I like you but I don't wanna love." Also, potentially controversial opinion, but I don't think the metaphoric speaker in this one is inherently a piece of shit - I think the sentiment wholly depends on the vibe and context of the person they're singing to, and as we have zero clues about them, we're free to imagine what we like. For instance: the person they're singing to could also be completely on board with a casual/fuckbuddies/FWB situation and be, in essence, singing along with them - you could even arrange the song as a duet to get that effect, and it would work. Or, at the other extreme, you could present this song as the wheedling done by a fuckboy after he's been repeatedly promising a long term relationship, in which case, yeah, the singer is a dick. But for me, it only makes sense to think of the singer as inherently terrible if you think there's something fundamentally wrong with casual relationships - which, from what I understand, is largely true in a Korean cultural context, but isn't true for me. All that being so, when Changbin was talking about the lyrics being relatable, my read is that he means the sensation of being excited by a new person: enjoying the initial push/pull, back-and-forth, will we/won't we as something to experience and value for what it is in the moment, rather than succumbing to the pressure to immediately define and label what's happening. And while, as stated above, there's absolutely fuckboy ways to do that, I do think the sentiment itself has value - I won't go into my full spiel on this topic, but (IMO) a dating culture that forces you to view every single romantic prospect up front, immediately, through the lens of Would I Marry Them is actually not a healthy one, as it gives you no space to get to know the person (or even figure out what you yourself are looking for) without the threat of wasting time hanging over you.

I GOT A SHOUT OUT ON ONE OF MY REPEAT SONGS OF THE ALBUM 💞 I know other's mentioned it, but Seungmin just performed I Like It on a show today!! It's with BTOB's Eunkwang. I don't know if you guys are going to react to all the SKZ's variety show appearances (it's a lot), but here's links to that specifically: I Like It Performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIRie39M2aE Show appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6HwCQswd_U Duet w/ Eunkwang: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddPrv6JzL3E

Oh my gosh how could I forget Chan likes to pretend he has nothing to do with a song's bad guy or explicit lyrics. 🤦🏻‍♀️I think I got distracted by Changbin and Han duking it out in the intro

I watch a lot of "reaction" videos on YouTube. Because of Chk Chk Boom and the Deadpool connection, there are WAYYYYYYY more reaction videos from total SKZ newbies than usual, so I've been watching those, too. Once they hear one or two songs, they dive headfirst down the Stray Kids rabbit hole, and they're always so shocked and pleasantly surprised to learn how versatile the members and group as a whole are. One thing the vast majority of them say is something like...... "Unlike a lot of other K-pop groups where the members pretty much all have the same tone of voice, Stray Kids have VERY distinctly different voices.........and yet.......they all sing so cohesively it's unreal. Each respective part they sing is PERFECTLY crafted for their specific voice and it all fits together so well. Who ARE these guys?" I always giggle like mad when I see that kind of comment, and my heart does this squishy little burst of pride thing. So it tickles me when you Handsome Sausages - who have been watching SKZ videos for a long time now - STILL get surprised sometimes how each member and their individual voices can completely change parts of the song that happen to have the same lyrics. It's just their vocal and stylistic interpretations that make those parts SOUND different, even when in actuality, they aren't.

Guuuuys, I heard the weird sound sims like a "theremin", an intrument you play without touch... I don't know but makes so much sense with this song hahaha

Lari

Sappy, yes that fits it. The song sounds upbeat and superficial (in the sense of ‚light‘) which reflects the lyrics. Again a song, where the tone of the music fits to the tone of the lyrics, so well done. Well, the content… I am conflicted, because I understand the mindset and that sometimes for some people that is the right approach, but for me, knowing from young age how hard life can be and that the only thing that gets you through is true love by people who are really close, keeping it superficial seems like waste of time. But, as idols, where there is no time to invest into deep close relationships (beside your bandmates), this approach might make sense, especially if you’re THAT close with your members. As many lines are in English I suspect Bang Chan as their author, as Changbin and Han write normally 95% in Korean.

Ideosycrat

Yes! I need a shoe explanation lol!

Credits: Lyrics: 3RACHA, JBACH Comp: 3RACHA, Space Primates, JBACH Arr: Space Primates, Bang Chan JBACH has worked with Fifty Fifty and NCT Dream, as well as Jason Derulo. The duo, Space Primates, have worked with Fifty Fifty, Enhyphen, VCHA, Flo Rida, DJ Snake, and more. I can hear what HAN meant by the "jelly leg" sound effect which I really enjoyed in the post chorus/2nd verse rap section. EDIT: The music theory lesson is bringing me back to uni with all the inversions.

your name here

Changbin needs to write an I Like It sequel song where the protagonist emotionally matures and finds the one 😆

Stacy Marie

Eh, no bad guys here, there is a clear communication. I have a theory that Changbins "Sorry I Love You" is kind of a prequel to Changbins "I Like It", since avoiding pain and scars was mentioned.

Elina

I love to when Stray Kids write the bad boy type of love songs! I have been waiting for this reaction because I was so excited to hear your reaction to the background sound, that kind of reminds me of aliens for some reason. I’m excited for Runners and Twilight! I love this song and Twilight the most, but this whole album is just amazing! I’m constantly replaying it!

Paulina Pena

Ooo, i just went on lunch. I actually really really really like this song. Also they sound good. The songs are so short on this album. But i loved the instrumental. Han-C...is that an elmo headband on those shoes? And my next question is why? They really said screw these bridges 🤣. Now do you guys think this protagonist is really really bad? I honestly don't think this person is awful. As long as they are honest and or upfront about it this isn't bad. I love the on-screen piano demonstration. Honestly i still don't know what was happening but it was nice to see and hear. Whaaaaatttt really?!? I don't think its that bad. Oooo runners was a sneaking favorite for me.

Kwestleo

Yeah, not a lot of wordplay. Seemed pretty explicit, they don't want to be serious with us... typical red flags y'all 🤣. Also, the piano scales are giving me Octave scale warm-up flashbacks lol.

Emma

I just opened patreon, this was perfect timing xD This is one of my most listened songs of the album, i like it a lot! The chorus is very catchy and I really enjoy both verses, especially Han's part in the 2nd verse. Btw the first part of the outro is Han and not Hyunjin, the lyric video got it wrong here. I don't know why but knowing the theme makes the song very fun to listen to, even tho it would definitly not be fun in real life lol. Also the specific scenario of not wanting to take the relationship further might not be that relatable for everyone (sorry Changbin) but I think everyone can relate to the general sentiment of enjoying the "waiting" or the preview more than the actual thing if you get what I mean lmao. I get a similar feeling with comebacks sometimes. Even this time with Ate, I hype myself up so much and am so impatient but then just before the actual release, I suddenly get this thought "I wish I could enjoy the excitement of waiting a little longer". Idk if anyone else relates😂 Also thanks for the little music theory lesson. I really like hearing you guys explain that type of stuff as well! edit: forgot to mention seungmin sang a bit of I like it when he appeared Eunkwangs show today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIRie39M2aE

Lol!! You guys can do it!! We got this!! Let's goooo Edit: HOW do they all do something different and STILL manage to sound like one group?? Is this another Hoodie season?? Also I LOVE Changbin doing anything sooooo yeah, I like Changbin singing the chorus. 🤭 Also, another Stay pointed out that this "bad guy" doesn't seem as bad as the guy in Chill or Ex (remember talking about those 2 in Skz Code?). This bad guy seems to be up front and saying he doesn't want to make anything official. Are there nuances in Korean that we're missing? What do you think of this take? I like it honestly... (pun acknowledged...lol) because then it's the listener who gets to decide if she wants to stay with the bad guy or not. You know? What do you two think ? Also RUNNERS!!! My favorite and most repeated song on the album 😍😍
