Early Access: SKZ - Seungmin's High and Dry Cover (SONG BY Ep.2)

Here's our reaction to SKZ Seungmin's cover of Radiohead's High and Dry! :D

Song By is indeed an incredible series, as predicted from the first episode, and we eagerly wait for the next episode :).

STILL lots to talk about because it's Seungmin! Enjoy <3

Early Access: SKZ - Seungmin's High and Dry Cover (SONG BY Ep.2)

Comments

This man's talent will never cease to amaze me. The way he continues to grow and change too, is incredibly impressive. He is so mature and wise in his mindset for such a young age. I admire that about him so so so much. Thank you for sharing your love for skz and especially Seungmin. I'm also really thankful that JYPE allowed Seungmin to explore this as well. Like you said, I could they not?

Thats an impossible choice… both made me cry 🤷🏽‍♂️.

Asking me which cover of Seungmin's I like better is like asking me to chose between apples and oranges. I love both songs!! For different reasons: this one shows his internal thoughts about himself, while the other one is more showing his internal thoughts about those around him. For the same reason: they are BOTH SO GOOD. His emotional delivery and ability to connect through the screen is so so so amazing. His voice moves me every time; maybe to cry (like Love Poem), maybe to think (like High and Dry), but each time our Mini leaves me with something beautiful and I love how much HE loves what he does. It's truly inspiring to me how much Skz love their jobs. Sincerely. As I've now been a Stay for a year, they have nudged me and given me tough love when I needed to get my rear in gear and do something. They have shown me how to LIVE instead of just be alive (I think that's a song reference from MercyMe...?) They don't know me but I know them. And that's enough. :) (See what I mean by making me thoughtful? lol) Anyway, as always, I love your reactions and that you both just listen to him sing and talk after. From my view, it's more telling when a reaction channel says nothing during the song then when there's a lot of back and forth over the music. :) so thank you. Until the next Song by: see you in the next one! :)

I like both of Seungmin’s episodes. Not one versus the other. His presence (in this series) is so calming. Outside of this series, he’s a wild man! lol

What ever Seungmin does, as young as he is, as far he already is as an artist, it makes me curious about how further he will develop. I can't wait to see it, though hopefully always as part of Stray Kids. I agree with you that he has grown very much lately, in many aspects. He radiates so much strength, as a person as well as on stage. Always without putting on a show, never glamorous, always himself, unwavering.

Radiohead is one of my favorite artists and has greatly influenced me. "High and Dry" is one of my favorite tracks, so I very much appreciated that Seungmin chose this song and rearranged it from his perspective. I love the way he designed his own singing. Thanks for pointing out this little detail. I totally agree with you guys. Compared to "Love Poem," I have to say I prefer this one because it is beyond my expectations to see my favorite artist today perform my favorite artist in the 90s era. In recent days, some SKZ members have been listening to a lot of alternative rock music from the 1990s to the early 2000s. Hyunjin sent a list of what he loves to listen to via Bubble, such as Oasis song "Wonderwall" and much more. So it is no surprise that Seungmin discovered Radiohead in the 90s.

Thank you for reacting to this! Seungmin’s voice always makes me feel the emotions of the song, I think that is why I’m so drawn to listening to him. He is one of the best at conveying emotions through his singing for me. I don’t think I can pick between the songs so far! I can’t wait to hear whatever he sings next!

Heather

Oh i was knocked out when this dropped and now it will be hours before i get to watch 😩

Your comments about his vocal style that he choose during this song (the vocal tension in almost all of the song and the gradual build of the power in Seungmin's voice) made me think of something. Because of both of those the tension in the sing gets really really really high near the end. And when he finally does the open vowel/belt (?), he releases all that tension. I've seen this episode, but never really understand why I kept being so tense until that moment, but now it makes much more sense. Tension is good, but there needs to be a release and he chose it perfectly at that moment, because its like everything is immediately gone. It's so satisfying at that very moment. Thank you for reacting. As you can see by my profile picture, Hannie is my favourite, but Seungmin gradually won me over. First by his vocal abilities and after that by his boyish to man handsomeness. Im so grateful that he decided to do this, I love it! If you're interested, you could include the teaser with the next episode, he explains why he started the series in there.

I can’t imagine him NOT doing at least one Day 6 song unless he knows we’d expect it and wants to stay away from that but I just recalled that once on tour he sang “Always Remember Us This Way” from the movie a Star is Born and it was BEAUTIFUL. If he doesn’t end up doing that one, I HIGHLY suggest you search it on YouTube. I wish we could get a full track of it fr 🖤🖤

Like others have said, I can’t choose between them. I love each one differently, but I just really love feeling the emotions that Seungmin’s interpretation always brings to the music. I can’t wait for you to explore his OSTs, especially the two most recent, Destiny (https://youtu.be/v8YHd7W9oh4?si=9GhDGnB8X_i9Am_p) and Phobia. Whatever song he picks next, I just know it’s going to be amazing ☺️ Seungmin is so talented, far more talented than he gives himself credit for, so I know the next SongBy is going to be stellar.

Hopefully you guys will see this comment 🤞🤞🤞😥🥺🥹😢but you asked for tons of info on DPR Ian on your "SAINT" reaction so I did a comprehensive deep dive into my DPR Ian collection of content and gave you lots of info and links to check out at your leisure. Sorry I'm commenting a bit late but it took a few days to compile everything in a semi organized manner and re-listen to his lives to pick out some permanent ones for you to check out lol. Anyway you can find my comment/list under your SAINT reaction if you're interested. You don't have to check everything out but it would be super cool if you "liked" that comment so I at least know you saw it 😊. Please and thank you 😘. And as for Seungmin...omg I'm so happy you reacted to this! I knew you'd be floored. He is just such an incredible vocalist and I never get tired of his 'smooth as honey' voice. Handsome Sausages reactions are always my favorites and your insights are so satisfying and insightful 🩵.

I need to be able to stream this, I have played it more times than i can recall. This was already a Radiohead song I really loved and Seungmin gave it new life!

Kiki Meowzilla

Seungmin NEVER fails to put so much emotion in his voice. This is such a wonderful cover. I have so many thoughts but I don't know how to put them into words. Haha. Cant wait to see what this series becomes.

Nova

i honestly wouldn't be able to pick a favorite between the two because i love them for different reasons. with this im hoping this small dream of hearing seungmin singing "sing for absolution" or "apocalypse please" could come true ㅠㅠ im so glad he can showcase his voice and choices this way! also your reactions are priceless! x3 honestly same hanC, same, i was so taken by the crescendo it's pretty crazy. thanks for the great reaction, hopefully soon with a new episode :3

EzzyMoon

I am SO happy you guys are reacting to this second episode of "Song By." I enjoyed Seungmin's cover of Love Poem in the first episode, but THIS cover of Radiohead's High and Dry just feels more like he is stretching and exploring musically and vocally, which I love, love, LOVE. So I prefer this episode. (And shout out to the piano player and guitarist who are playing for him!) I can't WAIT to see what other songs he sings during this series!! And YES, I am super grateful to JYP for letting SKZ do these different things. Once again, it just shows how well he appreciates Stray Kids' skills and how deeply he trusts them. When 2 Kids Show came out a few months back and we got to see live duets among the various members, THAT felt like a whole new exploration, too. I loved that it harked back to their older 2 Kids Room series, where they had these in-depth conversations about their relationships as friends, co-members of SKZ, their brotherhood, etc. But the newer 2 Kids Show lets us see them a few years after that initial series, and we get to see how much they have matured both as people and as artists. And even though the vast majority of the songs on 2 Kids Show were ones they'd already recorded, some were new and the whole live, tiny performances just hit differently. They were SO, SO GOOD, and I hope SKZ will continue that series, too. I know you already watched part of the 2 Kids Show with Han and Seungmin's performance of Volcano, and I am looking forward to your reaction to Hold On, as well as the other episodes.

Seungmin's cover made me so emotional 🥹 you can tell how much his voice and himself as a person have changed, and I'm glad that we have all this content to go through the process alongside him. Can't wait to see what Seungmin will sing to us in the next episode!

Jimena

Seungmin could sing the alphabet, and I would choke up at the end. He emotes so, so well! I've always loved his vocals, but I'm truly just enamoured by how he's matured as an artist and person. It's so amazing to see the person he's becoming. It's like he's reclaiming his self-identify. I can't wait til ep 3!

Tristana Keauna

Seungmin has come so far and has such a mature outlook on life. Through this series, I have come to appreciate him and his absolute talent even more than I already did. He seems to have this new found confidence of late and I'm totally here for it. His natural talent, combined with his work ethic, is amazing and it certainly shows, the improvement over the years. Also, his love for singing is so obvious and I'm here for it 😊

Nic27

Love Poem was great to see the transformational journey he’s been on. I enjoyed High and Dry in a different way because I hadn’t heard him perform it before. Impossible to choose between them!

Taylor M

I've been absolutely obsessed with this cover - I love his vocal choices, and the way he opens up on that final belt after deliberately keeping his voice contained before then. Plus, also, I just love the song; I have a weird relationship to Radiohead where a lot of their stuff doesn't hit for me for whatever reason, but when it does, it *really* does, and this is one of those.

sysrae

this stayed with me for days and i sent the video to so many people <3

Quiet Type

I absolutely loved this episode! His voice sounded amazing. His singing and the emotion that he put into it made me so emotional. Seungmin is so talented!

Paulina Pena

I’ve always loved this song, and Seungman does a wonderfully emotional cover. Wouldn’t it be great if this series was eventually released as an album?

Cynthia S

This Lyrics... We know why he chose this song right? So happy to see him singing other types of songs, his voice is amazing!
