[Tier 3] Wanteez Ep. 11 - Wordplay Battle of the Century
Added 2024-05-28 14:41:35 +0000 UTCFirst off, Wanteez team being an absolute boss for doing their own subtitles (99% sure about this) because the sub quality has quadrupled starting from Season 2.
Lots of thought-to-thought (paraphrasing) translations instead of metaphrasing, and for the most part, they're doing an incredible job and conveying the meanings properly.
Unfortunately, even with that, most of Wanteez comedy are extremely Korean, so it's near impossible to explain everything on screen - which is where we come in.
I tried my best to put a lot of explanations where applicable, and as usual, feel free to ask us if you have any questions, but for the most part, the episode should be good to go :) as long as you get that they are doing their best to play around with the word 'jeup' and 'hwan'.
Wanteez is SO SO SO fun and we cannot get enough of it.

Lol, im back a while month and some later 🤣. Tryna get myself caught up. And it's definitely more fun to wash with you guys cuz I never would have watched it by myself. Oh the host? Is very adorable. He is funny. Yeo sang not being able to hold in his life is too cute. Are any of the members actually fluent in English? I don't know much about them. So this should be interesting. Not being able to use English that is. I think I heard about that Jung ho breaking apples while singing or something like that. Why are there juicers so tiny? Not them all doing that same. Oh my oh my God joke. So did they get it from chung bin or did chung bang get it from them or are they just all unoriginal and thought of the same joke? 😹🤣 So did they give up on the no English because they keep saying the word grams. How would they make it into a ball when it's so sticky? Okay so they made tiny balls and put them in plastic containers. That's kind of cute. Wait. So they had to come up with puns for everyone that they were giving each other? Oh the host guy is back. This was interesting. Awwww, the pupper had a cone? What happened?

2024-06-07 04:48:05 +0000 UTCMaybe (?) missed was that the references to "jeup in jeup out" are related to Jessi's song, Zoom, where she does the hand motion and says, "zoom in, zoom out" during the song. In the YT details for the episode ("I see you looking at my HANYAK see") is also a reference to the song lyrics, "I see you looking at my P-I-C." The members were on Showterview while Jessi was hosting (please watch this!), and the Psy battle on Immortal Songs included Jessi as a contestant, so she's seen them often and they know/reference her song.

2024-05-28 19:31:56 +0000 UTCAll of the wanteez have loads of wordplay. My favourite being 'jeup in jeup out'. I laughed so hard at that. There's also a lot of references to korean memes, media and sport. So it is hard for non-koreans to understand (as you said) and the KQ staff do an excellent job of trying to explain said references in the subtitles as best as possible if it is possible. But I think this episode contains the most wordplay out of all the wanteez episodes
