Early Access: SKZ Hyunjin - When The Party's Over

Here's our reaction to SKZ Hyunjin's dance cover of Billie Eilish's When The Party's Over.

:') Couldn't say a word.

Enjoy <3

Early Access: SKZ Hyunjin - When The Party's Over

Comments

I have kpop friend who's a dancer IRL, and when she was just getting into skz, she mentioned she thought Hyunjin would be a great modern (might be the wrong word, I'm NOT a dancer) dancer, and then I linked her this and she was like "THATS IT! That's what I wanted to see from him!" I think if he was allowed/willing to choreograph more songs, we'd get more of this emotional almost interpretive dance. He fits it SO well!

Impressive reaction; I love that you guys "feel" it with your hearts. This is the performance that made me become a STAY. The first time I watched it while I was discovering more about SKZ after I realized they created and produced their music from the start, Hyunjin's dance hit my heart, and I appreciated that he did the choreography himself. I was surprised to know that this was the first time Hyunjin performed contemporary dance, and he didn't know how to dance or sing before joining JYP as a trainee. He came this far because of his hard effort. This performance confirmed to me that individual SKZ members are true artists. I have respected and supported them since then.

Thank you for noticing his comment many reactors do not notice it, I love the way you guys were speechless

In my old dance company, the director used to warn us that a powerful performance will not elicit immediate applause but to expect silence first and then a delayed audience reaction. It was fun to see you guys respond that way! I love to see people use dance to convey emotion like this. so good.

Could watch him dance forever, he's so clean and powerful in his moves. and his ISOLATIONS!!!!!! His body control is amazing. Also, I saw on the other video from a few days ago that you have also found their playlist is out of chronological release order. It had frustrated me too, since they add new stuff to the top of the playlist but then the order is messy. I have this one with all of them in release order if you want it for reference. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkuU7G2u_YMXeZb_vyh4nQTwvCim-isBA&si=09SVJ9Qu8DqyqmZE

I've been dancing for 15 years, and that is exactly what i love about dance - it's a medium to express a message and emotions just like singing. it's a universal language! and hyunjin did that masterfully. like, holy shit. i was just as spell-bound as you guys. you get sucked in to his performance! and let me tell you, i was shocked when i first saw this video - contemporary dance is a whole different genre than what skz usually does, and it's crazy to think that hyunjin came to JYP having never danced a day in his life, and now he does THIS. just because you can do one style of dance doesn't mean you automatically can do another - he must have worked so hard, even as he split his time between school and trainee/idol life

I've probably said this before, but his isolations are so clean! And I really love the incorporation of tutting in the sequence where he mimes hanging up the phone. He's got such phenomenal body control that he makes difficult moves look deceptively fluid and simple, but whether he's dancing like this or in something more explosive, you can see both the joy in movement and the dedication to craft that's brought him to that level. It's no wonder that Taemin took a liking to him!

my sister and i call this the duality of hyunjin. the difference btwn the almost childlike, clumsy goofball and the aggressive incubus he becomes on stage. these performances that seem more heartfelt and intimate— we take them to be the behind the scenes hyunjin.

You know it's good when Han freezes and forgets how to breathe 😂

Layah

Oh yay I didn't miss it! Thank you guys! Love your channel ❤️

Purr-Kim

oh the livestream will be edited and shared :) Better yet, the AOTM behind videos are separate video reactions that haven't been shared with anyone - those will drop in a week or two! :D

I had not seen this before! He is such a beautiful graceful dancer yet full of power. You can see how he has progressed in his technique and really dug deep to convey his emotions through the movements in his work and facial expressions ❤️ bravo 👏🏼 ❤️

I've seen this performance many times, and it's always been rather emotional for me. The very first time I watched it, I had tears in my eyes. You said it so well.....everything Hyunjin wanted to convey in this solo, he did. I really, really would love to see him do more solo dance pieces. Especially if they lean toward contemporary dance. He still has so much untapped potential.

Sad we didn't get to see your reaction to the behind of Hyunjin's motley crew performance. Are the Skz lives a one off or can they be watched later? Time differences suck :(

Purr-Kim

honestly still never got used to the force of the emotions conveyed there. and yeah, most silent reaction so far which is definitely understandable, don't worry! he's really a talented artist and although it's sometimes not easy to perceive this side of him as a dancer in the group setting that is skz, im glad he has the space to express that. he sometimes goes live on insta (and prior to that it was on vlive if im not wrong and then YouTube?) to show his dancing, it's really fun! also aotm has just made a comeback with ni-ki from enhypen if im not wrong so with some luck we could perhaps see Felix or Lee know? i sure hope they can!

EzzyMoon

Watching you two be speechless was kinda hilarious 😂 But at the same time, I totally get it. I was exactly the same. It is truly a beautiful and mesmerising routine. Hyunjin is honestly so blessed with his ability 💓

Nic27

This is my favorite of all his solo performances. It’s so strong.

Maitland Sanborn

He is amazing. Hyunjin is so emotive in everything he does. Whether it's singing, whether it's dancing whether it's rapping, the emotion comes across so well. He is always a joy and a pleasure to watch. He is both so strong and sharp and powerful while also being sleek and smooth and fluid. I remember having tears running down my eyes when I first watched this video. And I still don't know if it's because of the song or his dancing or both. Because it's just amazing. Like i have a single tear rolling down my cheek. D'some not you sitting there loading and processing while Han-C is commenting. Honestly valid. Its so emotional.

Kwestleo

honestly, same reaction. I remember not breathing while watching it. He's really talented. ❤ Amazing as always!
