Early Access: SKZ - ZONE (SKZ Player; 3RACHA)

Here's our reaction to SKZ (3RACHA)'s ZONE.

BACK TO REPLAY :D

Enjoy <3

Early Access: SKZ - ZONE (SKZ Player; 3RACHA)

Comments

I’m sure there have been comment’s already about this but the Replay in skz-replay actually is a mix of the word record and player. All the songs on the B-side of skz-replay are songs that were released either as a skz-player or a skz-record. These songs are not official singles or albums and aren’t officially released on streaming services (however you can find several of them as podcasts on Spotify). They are usually either solos or duos of all the members but they aren’t all 8 members together except for I think 1 song released this year. The ones that are part of the B-side are not ALL of the skz-players or skz-records so eventually I do hope you will check those out as well. Several of them are also covers of songs and even now they are releasing new skz-players and skz-records. As of now they’ve released 11 new songs in this year alone as part of skz-record/skz-player and you can find all of their skz-records and skz-players under the official stray kids YouTube channel under the skz-replay playlist.

And Chan brought the Haka back in the chorus choreo for MIROH...

Shit! Why didn't anybody suggest that Sausages react to Christmas EveL mini album? It's SKZ's Christmas album. I just remembered it.

xzysiek

I’M SOOOOO EXCITED YOU’VE MADE IT HERE!!! You are gonna love all of these songs! This was the best Christmas present! All of the SKZ-PLAYER & SKZ-RECORD on an album. 😭😭😭

Nova

The REPLAY version is updated. I can't watch for you to hear it. It gives me CHILLS. And yes, they took their SKZ PLAYERS and SKZ RECORDS from YouTube and collected them on the album. Some were remixed a bit, but not all. Thry were remastered, yes.

Star Dust

Chan's friend taught him some of the Haka (the chant you were talking about) and about the culture of the Maori. He wanted to honor it by including it in a song.

Star Dust

This is one of my fav songs and I always get hyped when it comes on in my playlist. I was so amused waiting for you guys to work out how old it is. I really thought you would take one look at Changbin and know it is an older song lol

lillie450

Ohhhhh shoooooot thanks for pointing that out - that must be an editing mistake :(:(

Handsome Sausages

My wishes have been granted!! A sausage Christmas miracle!

ShawnyJ

Also i don't know if it happened for anyone else but the names at the end that were displayed were not the names that you were calling out.

Zone is one of my absolute favorite 3racha songs. I wrote a list a while ago in the comments. But 3racha's vibes is what kind of cemented my love for Stray Kids as a whole. Bcuz 3racha is SO STRONG. And they are based in hip-hop and that is what i love. But I miss the heavy hip hop feel of 3racha so much. But this song is just very hype. Like it gets me pumped up.

In this video, Bang Chan explains why he's so interested in and respectful of the Maori culture, their language and their dance (the Haka). He discusses how he suggested they use elements of the Haka in their choreo for "Miroh," and how he used some of the Maori language in "Zone." (the Kia Rite, a, upane part). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdX8kXt4z6I

I wouldn’t mind a reaction to the official track that came out with replay because I do think it was the only one that was noticeably remastered or retouched on release, likely because it was so old. The rest of them are pretty much from 2020 on and since it was released in 2022 there was likely no need to go back over the newer tracks. (If that makes sense.)

A point of clarification: what Chan sings in the middle of the song isn't just a rugby thing. He's speaking Maori - the still-living language of the indigenous people of New Zealand - and specifically lines from a haka, which is a dance with a call and a response that warriors performed before battle to intimidate the enemy. Hakas a huge part of Maori and thus New Zealand culture to this day, so while international audiences are most likely to know them because the All Blacks, New Zealand's rugby team, performs them at the start of matches (and has done since the 1880s!), this is something a lot of New Zealand sports teams do regardless of gender. Hakas are also performed on a lot of other occasions; there was a viral video a while back of an NZ boys' school performing a haka for an outgoing teacher, for instance, while I saw another one recently where family members performed one at the airport for a US-born Maori boy coming home to New Zealand for the first time. So: bearing in mind that the subtitles on the Zone video for the Maori aren't fully accurate, the lines that Chan is saying are kia rite, meaning be ready/prepared or be equal, and ka upane a, which means another step upward. This fits with the tone of the song, and as Chan is Australian - and as there's a close relationship between Australia and New Zealand - I'd imagine that's why he chose to reference the haka in the lyrics. Not being Maori or First Nations, I'm hardly an authority on whether this would be considered an appreciative vs an appropriative use of the haka (though I will note that performing the haka is not restricted within NZ purely to those with Maori ancestry) but regardless, I thought it was important to clarify! Also: if you've never seen a haka performed, they're truly incredible. Here's a link to the schoolboys performing it for their teacher that I mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt6GRghrmaU And as a bonus, here's the All Blacks doing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4dCPdK88q8

The version on the SKZ-Replay album is the fully mixed and mastered version rather than the live version. I know some people were upset that the video version was not on the album, but I personally was appreciative of having both. Though the live version is the only version I knew for years, getting a chance to hear the mastered version was a great way to learn how 3RACHA hears a piece of music as producers side-by-side with how they hear their music as performers. It gave me a greater appreciation of their perspective as artists then and now.

As others have already said. SKZ bring out covers and original songs on their YouTube. Those songs are not on streaming platforms and can only be listened to on YouTube. These can be solo songs, unit songs or OT8. This year alone we already got over 5 new ones. Changbin has said he wanted to bring out solo skz player/records but they ended up on albums lol (I think “there” from the Japanese album this year was one of them.) With the replay album some of those songs are now finally available to stream! Zone and streetlight are some of my favorite songs so I’m stoked that theyre finally on Spotify etc☺️ (Stays are truly getting spoiled with so much music they put out, on top of the official releases)

I loved the reaction haha. the fact that you were listing all these points about it sounding so predebut/early debut and then realising that it was hahaha. Info about the RePlay album that people haven't already shared yet: the only song that was really remastered for the album, was this song, Zone, since the original player was a live recording. All the others are (in my understanding) put on the album in their original form. Side note: it's not on the album, but I definitely would recommend including Changbin's Cypher Record! It came out at the end of 2020, right before Han's I got it. (If you're ever curious btw, I have the entire chronological discography as a youtube playlist. It has every version of a song and it also includes some (live) performances of unreleased songs/covers. I don't think every video/song i used is the best reference to react to, but the playlist is a good reference for the timeline and to make sure you don't miss a release: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgVuSKjYxYzh9JY32F_yigMz1iUGihTkm&si=RzsgRH1ojOBaSYWy )

Sapientia

Yeah, the official track was slightly re-mastered (so I've heard, I don't have an ear for slight changes personally lol). All of RePlay is on my playlist though, with Streetlight leading the charge. Absolutely love em all and Zone is among my top favorites.

Selande

I second that! Changbin's growling in this song is amazing. Love it so much. He's also my ult bias :D

Selande

Ohhhhh this made me so happy ❤️. This is one of my favorite 3racha songs. I love Changbin's verse sooo much, this is one of the reason that cemented Changbin as my ults of ults ❤️. all of them ate tho and love the track so much. Excited for the remaining songs in SKZ Replay.

Coming back after getting to the end - the B side of Replay Album are songs they have all done as part of SKZ Record (just music, no video)/SKZ Player (has a video), hence the name - RePlay. Songs released on SKZ Record/Player are side projects of the members of SKZ that were posted on their official YouTube channel and includes things like song projects, covers (both dancing and singing), etc. The entire of SKZ Replay album is not an actual “official album”, but a gift from SKZ to STAYs (which is why the physical copy of the album was only available for STAYs who signed up for their fandom membership). Personally felt super happy when they released the songs as an album because prior to this, we couldn’t listen to any of the songs on Spotify/Apple Music. We only could listen to them through YouTube!

SKZ-REPLAY is essentially: a digital album (and limited physical not counting for any charts) compilation of Side A: Fam (Korean Ver.) as the main title, and the solo songs + #LoveSTAY and Side B: the official audio release of songs previously only released on YouTube as part of the SKZ-PLAYER & SKZ-RECORD series. These are original songs SKZ released only on YouTube for Stays with either a video accompanying (PLAYER) or just the audio (RECORD). Those projects started back in 2018 and have accumulated many songs that Stays were dying to have on streaming platforms. Therefore, SKZ-REPLAY (RE from "RECORD" and PLAY from "PLAYER", RE+PLAY= REPLAY) came to be!

oh the notification made me so happy! like i said, wouldn't mind a 2nd reaction with the official audio as im sure you probably have some stuff to add. (it's probably remastered at best imho since the two don't sound that vastly different but im no pro so im only going by what i hear xP) thanks again for this reaction and this happy surprise made my day~♡

EzzyMoon

Yesss replay is back!! But just wondering… why did we skip #LoveSTAY? Was it mentioned somewhere that I missed 😭
