WE LOVED IT XD

Handsome Sausages

Have they reacted to Call Me Anytime by Ateez, Eden, Maddox and Eden-ary yet?

Naomi Crippen

I'm actually flabbergasted because my "Thank you" response above should have included a long-winded admission of 2 things that I realized on a re-read of my initial comment ~ 1: I said we see the Thunder girl in the Outlaw diary but I actually can't recall whether it's from that one or Movement, and I didn't bother to check (still haven't), so I'm up for being corrected if it's actually Movement and not Outlaw. 2: As you said, to truly stick to age it would need to be 'Youth' after 'MATZ' since Yunho is older than all the others at that point and Mingi is older than Wooyoung... but I'm glad they didn't do it that way, because I feel like the flow worked so well moving from 'MATZ' through to 'Everything' the way that it did and I think it would've just felt "off" somehow if it was arranged differently. I'm not at all sure why all that got cut off and just left "Thank you" (there was even meant to be a little note to really show appreciation for the previous response, but oh well). But hey, technology sometimes, yeah? :)

Nikole

Wow this is fantastic, I'd just like to make one note. While I initially thought the unit songs were in order of age too, I realized after a little bit that If they were doing age order, they would need to switch "IT's You" and "Youth", as Yunho is the oldest of the 99'z (my take being that they would base the age order on the oldest member of the particular song...). What do you think?

Zesti

Thank you <3 I always wonder if it's annoying for anyone, but I also love being able to have a place where I can put everything into words! I did realize (on re-reading it all this time) that I didn't check for certain whether it's in the MOVEMENT or OUTLAW diary that we see the girl in Thunder (and still haven't looked, so I'm open to correction if anyone is positive)... also I mentioned the unit songs going in "chrono-order of their ages" but it's only partially correct since Yunho is oldest after Captain & Hwa and Mingi is older than Wooyoung, so really it could've been 'Youth' after 'MATZ', but I think they made a very smart decision in setting up the order like they did. It simply flows much better than it would otherwise.

Nikole

Thank you for the mental image of Jongho hovering above the landscape like some omnipotent being.

A C

I just want to say I do love reading your comments, don't stop!

A C

Ahem, wow, even after reading back through to make sure it sounded like what was in my head, I hadn't realized just how long that comment would be. Maybe I should actually be sort of sorry, haha.

Nikole

I'm going to put any direct references to what you guys say right here at the top, because this is a LONG post just from what all I decided to type up about the album as a whole. So, yeah. Sorry but not sorry at all, I guess? :) First thought here, I can't wait until you guys get to the Movement album, since that's actually the first piece of the World puzzle. It's where we get set up in that futuristic sound, while giving us some throwback visuals to WWII style propaganda (Crazy Form MV tied into Guerrilla with those soldiers at the card table, btw; it tracks, too, given the plot of Inglorious Basterds). I'd also suggest that you guys (off camera) do a quick recap listen to the Outlaw album after you get through Movement, and then a recap of this album after that, just because it'll be helpful in getting you set up for whatever does come next... since you'll be fully caught up by that point! "Thunder" is capitalized in Captain's second rap section because it's referring directly to a group of students ("Thunder") who help police the student body for signs of emotion. In the Outlaw diary, we see Seonghwa come face-to-face with a student from Thunder who looks exactly like the dancer girl who dropped the "Be Free" bracelet (Fever diary). This track does definitely set us up for this particular step in the series -- MOVEMENT brought them into their roles within the Z world (they've stepped in where Halateez left off when captured) and allows us to feel the differences between that world and ours; OUTLAW had them working covertly to prepare for the showdown, and got things moving once it was time; WILL is where they jump out and let loose in the best possible way. The way I explained this world (and what they've done to it) to my mostly uninitiated husband was: "Okay, think of a world like in the Equilibrium movie, only emotions are auto-suppressed by implants practically from birth and due to changes they've made the people live like 200 years, so schooling goes through age 40. Now, these guys have come in and wrecked the system, broken the implant link, made it so everyone can feel things and they have no idea how to handle it because they really haven't ever actually felt true emotions." Yes, there is a feeling of threat here in a way, but I think a lot of the "fear factor" involved is that they are the ones bringing emotion to the world again. We fear the unknown, it's basic human nature and while that impulse can certainly be overcome, it's far more difficult if literally everything you're experiencing is suddenly unknown and the world as you know it is falling apart. So, once again, sorry but so very not sorry for the remainder of this extremely long comment... and I'll undoubtedly be giving additional thoughts on each specific song as we get to them with you, but it's just a great time to give my general view of the album because why the hell not, right? ----- This album is interesting to me because the vocal teaser video was used to specify "Z tracks": - WE KNOW - Emergency - Crazy Form - ARRIBA - Silver Light 'Crescent pt 2' is basically a dividing line between the Z tracks and the rest of the album. I'll mention this one again later. The "feel" of second half of the album is mostly different compared to the first half. Some have said that 'MATZ' should have been in the first half, that it would've fit better there, but I think the unit songs were placed in the second half because of their disconnectedness (if you will) from the World Z we have known. I'll explain a little more of why I think the album was put together this way in a moment, but the general idea is that they're not really connected. 'FIN : WILL' wraps up the tail end of the album, and literally feels like it's the thing shifting us from the destruction of Z as everyone knew it and into whatever is coming next... for that dimension specifically as well as for our guys (and, by extension, for us as fans). This track is extremely emotional for me - I literally broke down crying during my first few listens (even while driving); and while it's not hitting me quite so hard now, it's still a very deeply felt song both lyrically (the words are mostly narrated with some airy vocals) and musically. ----- Now... why do I feel like the second half of the album is "separated" like it is, especially when two of those songs seem like they could have gone with the first half ('MATZ' and 'FIN : WILL')? I mentioned before that 'Crescent pt 2' is essentially a divider. You will get through the earlier tracks, including the beauty that is my new favorite song ('Silver Light'), and while you might not know the lore yet you'll still feel the story progressing through those tracks. It's inevitable as musicians, you're going to notice it. 'Crescent pt 2' very casually puts hands on your shoulders, turns you around, and says "Here, now look in this other direction"... At which point we get 'Dreamy Day'. If we didn't have a divider that clearly told me we were about to change gears, I swear this track would have given me audio whiplash (in a great way, don't get me wrong, but it would've happened). That said, though, it really does kind of feel like I shift from the chaos and fallout happening back in World Z, entering a kind of dream where things can be simpler or reminiscent or ideal. (I'm sure I'll mention this once we get to it, but 'Dreamy Day' feels and reads like a love letter to ATINY, to me.) Then we have unit songs that give us fiery in-your-face attitude (MATZ), luscious and sultry seduction (IT's You aka "I tease you"), a heartfelt and questioning look back at younger days (Youth), and an emotional telling of heartache (Everything). These being arranged in this place on the album make my brain link them to 'Dreamy Day' - as in, they're all kind of dreaming of how things were, could have been, or how they'd like for them to be. And while I'm aware that the order of the songs was actually done in chrono-order of their ages, somehow it also makes absolute sense to my ears that each song landed where it did. It's absolutely fascinating to me. 'FIN : WILL' could easily have been sat right after 'Crescent pt 2' in terms of "Oh, that's probably a Z track too, because it MUST be lore-related, right?" ...and yet... is it? I agree that it's lore-related (as well as a very poignant question for listeners), but I don't think it's part of "World Z as everyone knew it". Instead, especially because it repeats "Is it a new world?" at several points, I think this is future-related... connected to what comes next, for that dimension and our boys (within and outside of the lore) and us as fans. Okay, I'll shush now that I've basically presented a book analyzing why my novice brain thinks they arranged the album like they did.

Nikole

Also Hongjoong right before the album came out specifically asked ATINY to listen to this album in order because of the flow of it, so your formula is on point for this one haha

Kiara

I am in loveeee with this album I'm so excited for the rest of the tracks!!

Kiara

I love you guys are checking this out! You’re really missing out though not starting with the World album. It sets the stage for all of this so your catching the middle and end. But this album slays like no other.. and if you listen to them back to back, they all transition from one right into the other, like Outlaw flows right into We Know. Same computer/glitchy sounds. Like Outlaw sounds like Strictland is melting down and We Know is rebooting it with the 8 Pirates taking control. It’s a direct threat to “Z” It’s awesome!

_Dani.Lynn_

Yes! This right here! I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who felt this way! 🖤

Trialz315

This a no skip album. I don’t have a favorite for this one, they are all just that good. I agree with ya guys that it sounds like a threat or warning. And honestly I feel like it could be taken as more of a lore based threat. But, I also feel like Ateez and KQ as a whole is coming across as a threat to the industry itself. The album gives off the vibe that they are just done playing by the rules everyone else set for them and starting from this album on, they are going to do what they want instead of what is expected of them. Essentially just telling the industry to f off. (I feel I have to say MATZ would be a prime example of this). They wanted to do something different and I feel it shows in the album. I can’t wait for you to make your way through it. I’m so excited!!

Trialz315

Those are my favorites too! The first time I listened to IT's you I legitimately blushed lol

Jenni Heath

Maaaan I can’t pick a favorite from this album but I will say the IT’s You, Silver Light, Crazy Form, MATZ, ARRIBA, and Crescent Part 2 are already on my ‘on repeat’ Spotify playlist. The rest of the album is tied for second 🤣😂

I find the tone of this album interesting. ATEEZ feel like more than just rebels/outlaws now trying to bring music to the world to free the people. Now it feels less like lore and more like KQ and ATEEZ telling off the kpop industry and other very specific parties. Saying that they are sick of how things are and doing it the way it should be done and now, not only are they telling people off, but warning everyone that they're going to go full out by working harder and doing things their way to conquer the world using their music. That's the message and tone I'm getting. Besides that, I do wonder where Halateez are considering the fact that they were used in teasers for the comeback. Not to mention, some tunes on the teaser tracklist I don't hear in the songs. Maybe you guys can pick them up easier? For example the heart shaped box guitar chords could be buried somewhere.

Eva Minster

100%. Honestly my favorite song from the album, along with Jongho's song.

LunaMaras

Wait until you hear Matz and IT's You. My favorites from this album but all their songs are so good! ♡♡

I am loving this new journey. I can’t wait for yall to get to Silver Light. Specifically Hong Joong’s part. The sounds that play while he’s rapping… 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 the only word I can use to describe it is ‘haunting’. But in a good way.
