Enjoy this beautiful song <3 :')

If you wanna talk about them changing their tone and not being able to recognize their voices I can’t wait for the day you eventually listen to the Going Dumb (Stray Kids Remix) by Alesso and Corsak. Stray Kids collabed with them to make a version of the song and their tones were so different and so unified that Bang Chan had to actually tell Stay the line distribution because a bunch of the lyric videos people were making were wrong because we couldn’t tell who was singing when except for a handful of parts. Like it’s one of my favorite songs to listen to where I actually have to really listen and pay attention to small nuances in their voice and delivery to figure out who is singing what.

Aww, thank you so much, that means a lot coming from people I really respect who do writing/storytelling (in a sense) AND analysis. I tried my best, even though at some points the words weren’t wording because the emotions were emotioning (I’m a master level certified writing tutor??). Anyway, I’m so glad i enhanced your enjoyment of one of my favorite songs!! And by double? Made my day ☺️

Tealeafer

I know :( I guess the unveil is the sequel

kerolina

damn :( I'm not sure where I heard there was going to be a MV, but I guess that was just a rumor.. so sad :(

SaarCookie

I came here to say I’m sorry but there’s no MV for Leave 😭 they made that pretty obvious by releasing the “SKZFLIX & Leave Making Film” 2 weeks ago….. which means Leave will just be like Domino….. without a full MV 😪

kerolina

Got to this comment late but we DID react to the live performance :D

Handsome Sausages

no we haven't! Thank you for the link :D

Handsome Sausages

Thank you for this beautiful writing - a great story AND analysis. Loved reading it :D The beauty of this song just got doubled thanks to you!!

Handsome Sausages

:0 one take is insane though. AND the lyrics and its meaning just...ah! So beautiful

Handsome Sausages

Woooo never thought of it that day! :D We'll make sure to keep your Mondays bearable, and eventually the rest of the week as well!

Handsome Sausages

Welcome to the early club XD That's what happens - commenting as you listen! :D

Handsome Sausages

Hey Sausages - have you ever watched SKZ's M/V for their unit song, Gone Away? It was written and performed by Seungmin, HAN and I.N . I think you would enjoy it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu6Xh04n26w

Thank you for the reaction! It's such a beautiful song, I loved watching Hyunjin talking about it in the intro. It really is his baby and I love his style of writing songs so much! When you watch Leave, I really recommend watching the live performance of it. It's great!

Rina

I have a Spotify tracker and at some point I listed to this song 97 times within one week 😭

Hoping for a reaction to tbz watch it if u guys can! <3

I’m so sad, but feel camaraderie, that you also feel such a connection to this song, especially Hyunjin’s “I can’t take it anymore, what should I do?” It does hit close to home, almost too close to home, and I’m also proud of him for keeping that part of the story for himself, because to me, that’s the most heartbreaking part of the ending sequence of the song, although it’s structured and contrasted so well with the next line with harmonies, the cries for help, and, finally, a full-volume expression of pain, that it can be easy to miss if you haven’t experienced being at rock bottom and being just plain out of ideas. I love that part of Chan’s as well, especially as a relatively young mother of two toddlers, who has to push the depression under the rug, because I have babies to take care of. You just keep going, and pushing it away, until you realize, it’s all still there. I am SO proud of you for starting your journey with therapy- I’ve been in it on and off throughout my entire journey with depression, and it’s made a tremendous difference over the last 11 years. Your insight into yourself will serve you well, and I wish you so much luck, and happiness 💕 Hyunjin really did do something special with this song- I’m a dancer too, and I can totally picture a beautiful piece that frames your interpretation to the music. I’m sure it’ll be rad- keep on creating and keep on keepin’ on!

Tealeafer

I hope you guys watch their album intros at some time because they show and talk about songs and I think you guys might find some of it interesting, especially given your knowledge.

DM Wilson

I love this song with all my heart. It won me over as soon as I watched the Intro-Video to the album. I like how HAN explained that Bang Chan and Hyunjin recorded the guide for Cover Me and that he listens to the guide so often because he thinks that their voices have such good chemistry. He even said it's a pity they had to cover it up with all 8 members :D And then imagine, if this sounds so beautiful, how would the guide sound? I am so curious!

K3Crown

for when a txt reaction?

Maf

Oh this song hits me in all the feels 😭😭 all of them did just amazing.

Nova

This is one of my top songs from the album. I love the message of the song, this song alwaysade me feel emotional whenever it plays..i love their voices and my ult Changbin when he sings softly is such a warm hug. I'm excited for leave, it's one of the song I instantly fell in love with after the unveil track ❤️. I will still hope you'll check the mashup for this album, please 🥺🥺🥺 They always have one each album. Thank you ❤️

Naj.naaj

A mellow yet powerful song!! Definitely my top 3 from this album

This touches right to how I feel about this song as well. Every time I hear Hyunjin sing the line "I can't take it anymore, what should I do?" It hits SO CLOSE to home and I am so proud of him for keeping that line for himself! You can FEEL how important those words are to him and how deeply intimate he is with that feeling. Additionally, I LOVE the part where Chan sings the lines "I tried to hide away from all the sorrow and pain. But little did I know that I was going insane." And knowing that Chan helped write some of the lyrics I can only imagine that was one of his inserts. As someone who has struggled with suicidal ideation since I was in 8th grade (I'm now 28 and still have to fight with that part of my brain but in a more passive way than when I was younger) dissociation and repression have always been a survival mechanism for me. Very recently I decided to finally start my journey with therapy to start tackling and dealing with my issues and this song came out the night before my first session. Those lines speak SO deeply to why I finally caved. I finally realized avoiding it wasn't actually working but was making things WORSE! Knowing that Chan has openly admitted to being suicidal in the past and knowing that he's lost people he cares about to it makes those lines hit that much closer to home. I'm a dancer and choreographer and I CAN'T WAIT to use this song for my next piece! It is a song that entered my life EXACTLY when I needed it to! And the song being about how LONELY it can feel when you're in that head space makes me feel less lonely. Like you said, even the "just" the music expresses that internal feeling so perfectly that I, as someone who doesn't speak Korean, still find this piece so incredibly comforting to listen to when I'm in that head space. Hyunjin really did something special with this song and I really hope we get to see more of it in the future!

Kimberly

I think what stood out on this track for me was the hidden vocals by Bangchan. Holy moly.

Credits Lyrics: Hyunjin, Bang Chan Comp: Hyunjin, Bang Chan, Nickko Young Arr: Nickko Young, Bang Chan Hyunjin had a specific sound he wanted to hear in this piece, but was not able to be at all of the recording sessions do to schedules, so he left Chan detailed notes of how he wanted the members to perform the lines during the recording sessions. In the intro for this album, there is a very tiny snippet of seeing Hyunjin sitting in the director seat for this song. Nickko Young has worked with SKZ on several songs including Rock/Lalalala (Rock Version), Waiting for Us, 24 to 25, Novel, Youtiful, Hug Me (I.N solo), Love Untold (Hyunjin solo), and the recent SKZ-Record release "Untitled" (I.N and Hyunjin)

Thanks! I tried to be all 🤓 while inwardly I was like 😭

Leave is so pretty 🥹 It’s one of my favourites from Rock Star, and there is also a performance video

romimood

That pic for Lee Know is so Lee Know though. Just scope the thumbnails for the Lives on YT. You'll know when it's LK without even reading the title haha. This song is so gorgeous and relatable! The lyrics are a masterpiece. They were able to convey a feeling many have had, but weren't able to put into words. (at least for me)

Tristana Keauna

Yeah. Thank Hyunjin for those powerful Lee Know and Han vocals. Y’all should watch the video where they discuss the song. 🥰

Briana

Not y'all spoiling the Intro videos for Handsome Sausages. 😭😭 This song. Ugh. It's like the sky is opening and all the light, love, and warmth from Heaven suddenly shines down to "COVER ME NOW!!" it's just too beautiful.

Star Dust

To name it explicitly: this song was written by Hyunjin, Bang Chan wrote the second verse, the music composed by both of them and Hyunjin produced the vocals (as stated in their recording video). It is such a rich rich rich rock ballad! It sounds so natural to them, they own it so completely, that it feels as one has heard it already, as if it has been always there in their portfolio… For me, the beauty of this song is only matched by Youtiful and Chanbins+Felixs „Because“

Ideosycrat

One of my most listened to tracks on the album! the quiet swell of the second verse with changbin-jeongin-chan-leeknow just hits me so hard every time, it’s so beautiful I’ve really loved all the hyunjin-chan songwriting collabs so far (DLMLU etc etc) iirc chan wrote the second verse/likely did the base track and hyunjin composed the toplines and the rest of the lyrics

Rebekah

100% agree!!

Estelle S

They sang every little detail from their heart. This song captivated my emotions since I heard some parts on SKZFlix without knowing the meaning and having no idea who wrote it. By watching the Rock-Star album intro, Hyunjin wrote most of the lyrics, expressing his loneliness from his perspective. When Seungmin sang this song on the recording, he thought of Hyunjin's lonely days, and that shouting bridge was so impactful. This song broke the wall that I covered my weakness, and it's shouting loudest inside the lonely heart. The way you analyzed the detail, the mix, and the mastering technique of this song is so impressive. Thanks for taking the time to clarify how they made this masterpiece. I'm very into it.

Neuter Lover

Their live concert performance of "Leave" is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKlYEv8kAd8

A very thoughtful and well-written comment. :)

J.A. Moore

Changbin is my ult bias and when he sings like this, it's just... chef's kiss. I absolutely adore it when he sings and it's in complete contrast to how he sounds when rapping. I can't wait til you get to more songs where he is singing softly. One of my favorite is Novel (japanese track) on The Sound album.

Selande

This song is wonderful, it does such a good job at portraying very strong emotions. Hyunjin should be sooooooo proud of this one. I can't wait to get more and more of his music published on albums. I am super excited about Leave, it's my absolute favourite from the "calmer" songs. I put it as my alarm and it actually makes me happy every time I wake up. Can't wait to hear your opinions. There will be a MV released at some point that supposedly is follow up of the SKZflix (or so I have heard), so I'm excited about that as well.

SaarCookie

"Cover Me" is my not-so-secret fave off "Rock-Star." Its primary lyricist and composer is Hyunjin, with a slight assist by Bang Chan on lyrics and composing (although it's made clear it's Hyunjin's baby) and then an additional assist by Nickko Young (who was also on "Youtiful") on composition. Hyunjin couldn't be there for the first day of vocal direction, so he left detailed notes for Chan as to how he wanted it to sound, and then did the second day of vocal directing himself, and had a very clear idea of how he wanted it to sound. My favorite little tidbit is that originally he didn't have Han and Lee Know doing the harmony at the end, but he "got greedy," and asked them if they could do it. They were initially unsure, but eventually were all able to encourage each other enough that it got recorded the way it did, and yay for us! It's clearly a song very close to Hyunjin's heart...which is kind of heartbreaking, but I'm so glad he chose to vulnerable enough to share it with us. For me, it's hard to disentangle the personal and the musical on this song. As someone who's had to slow dance with chronic depression on and off for 11 years, it's amazing to me how the song even..musically? echoes what that feels like. The way there will be soft verses, that fit in with each other, with self-explanatory lyrics, that are like what it's like when you're trying to find your way around other people, and trying your best to function, built around these huge choruses, which are more poetic and extol what it feels like when you're alone...and then when it reaches the utterly simple line, beautifully delivered: "I can't take it anymore, what should I do?" with hardly any instrumental backing, and no harmonies, nothing, (to me) mirroring that moment of depression where there's nothing left but to to ask that childlike question... ugh, it's gorgeous. But something that I love even more, musically, is that harmonies actually come in on the next line, possibly representing that Hyunjin, whether he was going through something difficult at a certain point or not, is no longer alone. That's how I like to interpret it, anyway, and it's also just pretty. And then, of course, we have the absolutely climactic cries for help by Seungmin and Bang Chan. Again, no artifice, just straight up yelling out for help. Sometimes, the simplest lyric is the best, but it's juxtaposed again with the poetic chorus, but at full strength by Lee Know and Han. Just...masterful. Thank you Hyunjin for this song! And Bang Chan and Nickko Young! Also y'all are right, Bang Chan finally gave himself some highlights and some lines on this album and I'm here for it. Thank you so much for this reaction, analysis, and for glancing at this full on dissertation. Peace and love always- I always look forward to your videos!

Tealeafer

thanks for the great reaction and for explaining how such a song achieves being this strong without feeling overwhelming! im usually less into mellow/soft songs because of personal tastes but cover me has won me over not even halfway through the first listen and it's been on my repeat playlist ever since. looking forward to leave next and all the content you guys mentioned has me pretty hyped! thanks again ~♡

EzzyMoon

I love this song; possibly this says something about where I'm at, brain-wise, but I've been listening to it on repeat a whole lot. It's so beautiful and so musically satisfying - I think I'd describe the vibe as yearning, hitting somewhere between sad and hopeful in a way that really works for me. And all the vocals are incredible, but Seungmin's big line especially so - insane that he recorded it first time, in one take!

sysrae

A couple of things: Seungmin's long "So cover me nowwwwwww" part was done in one take. When he recorded it, the reaction was "That's it. That's the one." But Seungmin did a couple more just to be sure. In the end, they went with his first take. As far as the "cover me" part, especially where you explained it means to actually physically cover someone or something...... The song is about feeling lonely when they're in their room at night and feeling exposed under the glare of the moonlight, as if it's looking down and judging them. So when they say "cover me now," they mean actually cover them so the cold light of the moon won't expose their loneliness and raw pain. Only when the sun rises will they feel both physically and emotionally warm again. At least, that's my take. COVER ME is such a deep and beautiful song. Their vocals just blow me away.

J.A. Moore

This song is definitely my favorite song in the album. With this song you can definitely hear their beautiful singing voice. I love the fact that Binnie fitted so well and I’m so happy that we can hear him sing again. Plus Lee Know and Han singing at the ending and how their voices mix really well with each other. I’m so happy that it started out Hyunjin voice, it sets you up for the song really well. BangChan voice didn’t disappoint either. Then of course Seungmin voice in the main chorus is so beautiful. I rember the first time listening to this and it gave me vibes of a late night car ride acting like the main character staring out through a rainy window😂. But this is definitely one of my favorite songs for sure!

Olivia

That was awesome. I did wonder how it could keep getting bigger without ever overwhelming my speakers. Our Hyunjin’s song (with BC of course because why do it without your… what’s does he say in howl in harmony… teacher of sexiness? anyway) really shows all he can do now. Lyrics, composition, vocal direction. So mature as an artist. I’m proud of him.

Tracey Okeby Lucan

YEEESSSS, i cannot wait to get your album review and for you to watch the intro videos.

Kwestleo

Han is so silly with the Lee Know picture 😹🤣

Kwestleo

This song is 100% my favorite off the album, the vocals are so well done and emotional I could (and have) listen to this on repeat for days! I love this song!!

LayLaytheCrayCray

Another 2 hours before I’m done with work and I can go home and watch all the SKZ content… I cannot emphasise enough how much I appreciate you guys posting on Mondays (for me it’s Monday!!) because it makes the start of the work week bearable. Thank you guys!!! Can’t wait to watch.

kerolina

Thiiisss is definitely the earliest i have ever been to one of your reactions but I'm ready. Let's go. This song is so beautiful and EVERYONE sounds amazing. Starting off with Hyunjin was genius (obviously bcuz he wrote it). We got vocal felix and vocal Changbin and it just gives me chills. As a fandom we fully celebrate Hyunjin for giving us this absolutely stunning song. For giving us vocal felix again bcuz STAY has been wanting it again since Deep End. Seungmin did his high note in one take. Bang Chan and Hyunjin directed the boys so beautifully. This song is just too freaking tier. Its amazing. Yes this song was in SKZFlix, there were some lines said in it. And they also used Seungmin's breathtaking high note. Sorry i keep adding onto the comment as i listen to you 😸
