The mvs here are basically designed in a lab to make my mythology nerd brain sit up and howl, to say nothing of Hoyeon and Tony Leung! Your interpretation of Hoyeon as Eros is (I think) correct, and what's fascinating to me is that they choose to style both her and Tony Leung as reapers rather than cupids, making them seem like deathly figures in a way that both reads as a commentary on the complexity of love while foreshadowing her heartbreak. But NewJeans in the video aren't angels; they're a Greek chorus, which is also how you know that tragedy is coming. In ancient Greek plays, there was commonly a chorus - a group of singers/actors on stage - who would narrate and comment on the play as it unfolded, often in the form of a song or poem, telling the audience where things were going. In the case of tragedies, they would foreshadow the bad end to follow from the characters' choices, so in the mv, the way NewJeans drifts in and out of Hoyeon's narrative (while wearing clothes designed to evoke the Greek muses) are them playing the role of the chorus. They see her step out of her assigned role, they know it's going to go badly, but they don't intervene, so that the song itself becomes their chorus. It was just beautifully done, and between this and Eve, Psyche and the Bluebeard's Wife by Le Sserafim, it makes me want to know who in HYBE's girl group division is the mythology nerd, because they're doing some great stuff!
