The contrast between the three groups is so stark and not just in terms of performances but also as people, team members, performers etc. BtoB doing a bit and just hanging out together because after a decade together that’s how they roll, iKon being a really accomplished group with a strong history of winning in these competition programs actually showing how fragile they are and The Boyz demonstrating that their youth doesn’t limit their professionalism.

Both YooJung and Rie recently did dance covers, did you watch those yet? AND we got news of an upcoming comeback. Whee! Love them so much and can't wait to see what they bring us next. Thanks for the response, and looking much forward to the Kingdom episodes. The subtitles are SO necessary when we get to the round with newly-written rap sections. Those people at viki are GOOD, and even the songs that have been released before they give better lyrics to. I wish there was a way to have viki types translate new group video releases so that English audiences don't get to tell us how crazy lyrics are just because of poor translations of them. Personal pet peeve.

2023-07-25 00:08:35 +0000 UTCThis format was absolutely perfect. We got subtitles and commentary that really helps to show the strengths and nuances of the show. It's much appreciated that you bring that to the table with your reactions, plus it's great to feel and see your excitement for the material. The subtitles on viki are amazing? The viki teams are actual people who do the translations, and they do such a wonderful job translating not only the talking, but some of the references that other audiences might miss, along with the lyrics, and they'll even tell you who's singing, which helps, particularly if you're learning/seeing new members and groups. Yes, the scoring absolutely favored big fandoms, and in hindsight, while it did introduce audiences to other groups (yay!) it also just felt so contrived when we watched the scoring happen because the fan vote rarely followed the expert judges (who do get revealed in a later episode, btw, you'll be surprised!). I loved your mention of OnlyOneOf, because they're one of my fave groups, and so stupidly underrated. I would kill to see them on a show like this, because can you imagine their talents being put to use here!? Ugh. Do want. Yes, the formatting of episodes is similar throughout the series, as others have mentioned. Can't wait for more!

I'm so glad I didn't watch it in live time, though. The dramatic pauses and re-hashes would have ruined me.

By having this competition with global appeal, groups that otherwise go unnoticed are seen. Really there is no other reason for BtoB and Ikon to go on a competition. People like me who watched purely for SKZ discovered BtoB. It is a win-win situation and good for Korean music as a whole. Also, it was so nice to see the respect and appreciation the groups had for each other.

Watching this is what made my husband an Atiny lol, and this show was such a gift in the middle of lockdowns and Covid, it was really such an amazing thing that they went forward with it. Every episode gets better and better from here, can you believe it? If you choose to skip the sports day episode (which is fine), all you need to know from it is that the teams bonded together really well and it shows in the next performances.

For this particular episode, I would have to agree that I just loved everything about BTOB's performance. I also loved Bobby throughout Kingdom just because he is so laid back and doesn't particularly give a damn that it's a competition and he's just there to have fun. I did get a good giggle when at the end when you heard the preview for Jongho and Ateez's performance. I literally can't wait for you to see that and Stray Kids as well. Both are fire and as a Staytiny, there is no way that I could ever possible choose a favorite out of those performances. You are in for a treat! Then you get to look forward to Mayfly later :D Seriously though, I think besides the performances, you get a look at the idols different personalities in Kingdom and that's what I love about it. I appreciate your insight into some of the references I didn't know before. Like the living alone show or the lil jingle when they were opening the door. Thank you for your reaction. I think BTOB definitely had a lot of pressure to stay true to their own colours, but still feel like a "worthy" competitor (ofcourse they are worthy, but generally speaking based on their music, you'd think maybe they are in a very different category as the other groups). However throughout the episodes they definitely show that they are strong competition, but also play a major role as sunbae for the other groups (Mayfly FTW, you'll know soon enough). Both of you going 'what?!' at the little spoiler for Ateez' performance made me laugh out loud. I think this performance really put their vocal strength on the radar in the Kpop world, so I can't wait for you to see! Besides that I also think their performance was one of my favourite stages story, choreography etc. wise. For the episodes: Most of them are indeed split 3-3: Episode 1: intro Episode 2: round 1, first 3 groups Episode 3: round 1, last 3 groups Episode 4: round 2, first 3 groups (performing other group's song) Episode 5: round 2, last 3 groups Episode 6: Playtime (not so much music related, but really great for seeing the dynamics between the different groups, very fun) Episode 7: round 3 'No limit', (Units), Rap unit and Dance unit Episode 8: round 3 'No limit', vocal unit + first group performances Episode 9: round 3 , rest of group performances Episode 10: Live Finale (I don't remember exactly if ep 8 and 9 are divided correctly).

2023-07-23 11:50:39 +0000 UTCI really agree that all the groups excel in different ways so it's hard to know who would win, unfortunately the way the points are distributed made it very favorable for the globally popular groups so even when it was ongoing it was pretty obvious who the top contenders would be points-wise :') I can't waaaait for you to see the Ateez performance, this is really the one that shot them up in popularity hehehe

2023-07-23 09:38:08 +0000 UTCThis performance is probably one of my favorite iKon performances just cause it was totally unexpected for me I was a huge iKon fan before B.I left and hadn’t heard much from them since and seeing them perform two of my favorite songs as a mash up wasn’t something I thought of and they storyline they created for it was super fun with the idea of dying from a broken heart but in this episode the boyz were definitely my favorite performances because even when just focusing on facial expressions they still went absolutely crazy with their performances also their underwater photoshoot was so cool and the first time I watched this I didn’t even realize that some of the shots were used on the giant LED screens also Sunwoo being so scared in the water just made me wanna hug him and it made me feel really good that one of his members joined him to help him feel less scared it’s also nice having the subtitles cause I watched this as it was coming out so most of the time when I watched it the first time it didn’t have subtitles or the subtitles weren’t complete. I feel at this point I’ve gotten pretty decent at reading subtitles between watching a lot of K-pop content, K-dramas, and anime I consume a lot of video content that requires me to read subtitles watching it the first time with no subtitles was nice because it meant I could focus solely on the performances and vote accordingly. When this was released I was a casual fan of the boyz and btob and was a big fan of stray kids Ateez and ikon but due to how well all of the groups did I found myself voting all over the place specifically based on which groups I thought performed the best. I know not all the people did that and instead just voted for their faves but this show really allowed me to get even more into groups I didn’t listen to as frequently now I listen to most of these groups a lot more regularly than I used to but stray kids and Ateez are still probably my most streamed lol.

Also seriously, I remember the first time I watched thinking just how much the intensity had ramped up in just one episode. Also, as a Stay, I mean this with the greatest love for Felix: when the results were announced in the beginning, his sweater + his hair + his nerves were giving me terrified mom from the 1990s at a ski resort (love u Lixie). I was blown away by The Boyz in this episode (I'm...still not sure they had to make Sunwoo go underwater when he was clearly terrified but hey, I don't write for TV). Also I feel like my heart is too soft for competition shows because I'm like "But they ALL work so hard :(" Because they do!
