[Tier 3] SKZ - 3rd Eye

Last song (not really, but you know what we mean) on the list is the long awaited 3rd eye, and let us tell you, we were not disappointed.

Which is a huge achievement considering the song has been hyped up for quite some time by many!

We say everything we need to say about this masterpiece in our video so we'll keep our words to the minimum here - like the song itself, it's best experienced first hand than to be described ;) ;)

We WILL say, however, that we're having a blast with this SKZ journey, and we cannot wait to meet and greet the next chapter of SKZ!!!

Much love as always <3

Ok, been binge watching your reactions between here and YouTube and Han C describing it, saying he felt like walking on water just sent me! Did you know something Han C?! Did you know they'd release a song called Walking On Water? 😂😂😂😂

Nic27

I don't doubt that - can't imagine this being the first piece of SKZ music we listen to. We'd be instantly hooked as well

Handsome Sausages

Yehhhhh totally!! Gorgeous and creepy is so on point

Handsome Sausages

Yeh you're completely on point with that - the sense of development is very real and we feel it clear as a sky. It's very fun seeing their step by step progression

Handsome Sausages

This was such a cool trivia though ahaha loved it

Handsome Sausages

Ahhh! Yes!!! I knew you’d love this song! It’s just so different and creative. Definitely ahead of its time. Onward we go!

Nova

No, I totally see what you’re saying. They laid the groundwork for their later experimental work really early

Tealeafer

YES thank you for clarifying!

this. this song was the first stray kids song i ever heard and the catalyst for me to listen to their discography and follow the group. to this day, i can't believe this was from their debut album as a rookie group. it's so emotional, haunting and raw and the instrumental is so unique i feel like everytime i listen to it, i discover something new. i'm always gonna have a place in my heart for this song, no matter how far skz evolve with their sound.

LOL yea they mentioned this in a Twitter interview! Lee Know was actually in the bathroom and heard Chan and Changbin in their bedroom "fighting" so he went to Han to ask if everything was ok because he was worried something bad had happened: https://twitter.com/thinkabtbin/status/1359519269302784002?s=20

Ok, now I've seen it. I completely agree with the art statements. This feels like going to a modern art show and just being surrounded by colors and sounds and everything. The melodic part at the end randomly pops into my head, and I often forget it's from this song, so it's like a ghost haunting me. So gorgeous, but also vaguely creepy? Anyway, I'm glad you liked it!

Aaaah! 3rd eye! So excited, gonna go watch now

I knew Stray Kids since God's menu era, but I became STAY because of this song "3rd Eye". This is my favorite track and the music type I've been listening to. I respect Stray Kids as an artist, not K-pop idol. I stand them because I discovered that they made this kind of artistic music from the start. And It's so impressive that they had stage shows of 3rd Eye with other dark title tracks on K-pop award ceremony / festival, that was insane!

I could be completely off base with this, but having listened to this reaction right after you did S-Class, I feel like you can see how the kind of earlier, more experimental style used in songs like 3rd Eye has subsequently been refined - or at least built upon - in songs like S-Class. I don't have a musical background, but I'm a writer, and how they weave between different sounds and moods within a single song feels analogous to the way a good writer can foreshadow a later denouement so subtly that you don't realise that's what it was until the theme recurs. Like, 3rd Eye is so interesting to me because the structure feels almost orchestral, in the sense of being like a movement - the song starts a certain way, and there's this sense of each segment flowing to the next to communicate a shift in mood, but without trying to make something symmetrical or conventionally structured; whereas S-Class is using a similar technique, but *is* symmetrically structured, and yet in a way that doesn't undermine how organic the shifts in sound feel. Or maybe I'm just talking out of my arse, I don't know; it just feels very evocative to me, so I'm falling back on language I do understand to try and process it.

Glad you loved it. The super famous story from this one is Chan and Changbin recorded the argument in the dorm and when Lee Know walked by he thought they where really fighting. He then went to Han to get him to sort them out. But it's always crazy to me how many parts of songs where just recorded in their bedrooms.

I was hoping both of you like the song and I'm so glad you both did!!! When I first heard it, it felt too much and too little at the same time. Also: you were right! It was the members "arguing" in the middle of the song, specifically Chan and Changbin. Fun fact! Lee Know heard them arguing, got scared so he told Han to go there to see what was happening but at the end it was just for the recording 😆 listening to this song is a whole new experience. Thank you for the video, can't wait for the next ones!!!!

Alessandra

Fun story: so those muted/distorted voices in the middle are actually Chan and Changbin, and as far as original goes, I believe they were recorded in a bathroom [Edit: they were in their bedroom, but Lee Know was in the bathroom and overheard it]. One of the other members (99% sure it was Han, although I could be wrong [Edit: I was wrong, it was Lee Know. Wow, I really got the specifics of this story wrong]) got worried because he thought they had gotten into a bad fight, but nope, just the elder 2Racha being the elder 2Racha: recording questionable things in questionable places that turn out awesome
