It’s the movie that taught a lot of little girls (and more than a few little gay boys) the magic of peplums: 1989’s Troop Beverly Hills. Given that this was the first film Shelley Long signed onto and starred in following her exit from Cheers and given the fact that this didn’t make money in theaters, it’s probably the fault of Troop Beverly Hills that Shelley Long failed at making successful movies. Thirty years later, however, those same little girls and little gay boys look back fondly on this litte parable about how it’s not wrong to be girly, you don’t have to achieve your goals the way everyone expects you to and, most telling of all, the success of women is measured much differently than that of men. Drew claims there are some thematic parallels between Polly Platt, filmmaker and subject of the most recent run of You Must Remember This, and Shelley Long. Your mileage may vary but the series is damn good anyway
Miss Maisel and her golden arm are amazing but specifically in the form of this one tweet.
Also this 1991 video interview with Jenny Lewis in which there is a montage where she shows off several fancy hats. Also Grown-Up Jenny’s video for “She’s Not Me” is all about her confronting her child acting days, including Troop Beverly Hills. It’s good.

The Freddy is not a great dance but this version of it makes it somewhat better. Meanwhile, Drew cannot wrap his head around The Pony. Also this video of Shelley Long dancing is the best thing.
