Night Court Has a Night With a Gay

“The Blizzard” (December 6, 1984)

Night Court aired on the same Thursday night block that also included The Cosby Show, Family Ties and Cheers. And while Night Court never received as much prestige as the other three did, it ran for nine seasons, landed joke after joke and demonstrated a better understanding of its characters than most sitcoms before or after. In its second season, it pit its prissy, maybe possibly gay-seeming character, played by John Laroquette, against an actual homosexual in a way that’s funny but also shows that the show could go deeper than zany. We approve.

small correction on Paula Kelly- in Sweet Charity she was a more featured role than you call out. You can see her with Chita Rivera in Big Spender and There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This.

I did not go to one of those "everyone gets a recorder" schools. Is it regional? SES? Generational? We started orchestra in 3rd grade and band in 4th, I think, with no recorder segue.

I do not care to know what Lisa Whelchel is doing. I only care what Blaire Warner is doing.

Per the mention of "Facts Of Life" at the end of the podcast, can't speak for where all the gals are, but Lisa Whelchel recently began hosting a very low-rent collectibles show on the MeTV network, "Collector's Call." One of those cheap shows where people get their collections appraised, if you want to check it out.

If you can record yourself playing it we will play it in an episode

True story, I still own/can play my recorder from elementary school and quarantine madness recently made me look up sheet music for the Night Court theme, which exists, and learn to play it.
