Do You Print Our Statues? We Have a Question for You!

We’re considering offering optimized files for FDM filament printing and would love to hear your thoughts!

How about providing models for cosplay, decorations, weapons, helmets, busts, and large figures? Would you be interested in that?

If so, please comment below with what you’d like to see! Your feedback is very important to us!

I have a phrozen Mighty 4k but I still print about 98% of my models on my FDM printers it would have been a no no but with bambulab A1 series the detail is amazing I also print big most of the time but for smaller details I use a 0.2 mm nozzle so yeas to all the above the big models and FDM optomized I’ve been printing for 15 years so I do most of it myself at the moment but the details in your models are deserving of the very best

Chad Saunders

Kind of a late answer, but getting fdm optimised bases would save a lot of time (and extra cuts on my part because I have a photon mono 4)

Argon 3D

Danny, I know how to do it, I just don't like doing it. I too can change it in a heart beat, but it is scary. Time is nothing to me, I am home-bound disabled, 3D printing is what I have and do to keep myself occupied! I have NEVER printed at large layer heights. My usual layer height, 0.01mm, and on some things, 0.15mm. This way I get smooth, or nearly smooth prints. But I will look into 2mm nozzles and see if they may be of benefit to me. Thank you.

Amy W

I own a Bambu x1c and Bambu has a lot of videos on how to change parts. At first it was indeed scary, but now I change the nozzle in a hearth beat. It's super easy. Maybe you can find tutorials for your printer, just be confident and you'll get it done. 0.2mm nozzle prints perfect with 0.06mm per layer. Downside is that it takes way longer to print. So for bases etc I use the 0.4mm nozzle with 0.08mm per player. Not a 100% perfect, but pretty close.

Danny Wijnants

My FDM printers are Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro & Max. Not a fan of the 4's as yet. Maybe soon I will get a 4 Plus and see. But I have never printed with a 0.2mm nozzle. Always with the 0.4mm. I will have research what I have to change in CURA (yes I am a dinosaur). I always get scared when I have to do a nozzle change. Just so worried it will break off and ruin the print head. But thank you Danny, any words of wisdom, I will gladly take :)

Amy W

I can tell you that the newer fdm printers (and with 0.2mm nozzle) can really give you amazing details with no visible layer lines.

Danny Wijnants

I would love to see optimized files for FDM filament printing. That would be awesome! I'm still learning how to print the best results with my FMD printer (Bambu X1C), but I must say, it can print amazing sculpts without visible layer lines.

Danny Wijnants

Statues optimized for FDM? No, not for me. Cosplay props? 1000% yes.

Ron Supernault

It would be awesome to see props for cosplay

Bernardo S

i take resin prints to be autographed all the time. i just pack them in a padded box, and if there is something fragile i just wait to glue them on. or just bring in the base to have them sign.

Darryl Sorensen

If you don't mind to tell. What software and what kind of supports are you using?

Wyred

Yep, I would like to see some full size, or resizable helmets and cosplay gear

Chris Hood

I use fdm, and I just usually have to set up the angles for my auto supports to go and I’m solid, I don’t run into huge problems with the majority of prints. Only thing i would love is if the model has a mouth open, an option for one that isnt. Because Hoo boy, that’s something fdm just can’t do😭

Ian Kear

1:1 props are always awesome to print and have up on the wall!

Michael Tyson

I voted yes… but I don’t personally want FDM. Would love some huge stuff broke into smaller pieces so it can be resin printed. 1:1 scale would be awesome if the pieces fit together clean.

James Suter

Cosplay or scalable pieces like that would be cool

Fortunekuger

I feel adding the additional would take away from the models. Out of a set there are usually 2 or 3 I print and paint. If we lose qty the options would decrease and there may not be one I feel interested in.

Khoric

I see no harm optimizing for FDM as an optional figure if it doesn't take away from your quality and quantity otherwise. Props I am ambivalent about, props are out there but if you have ones you are wanting to put out that you feel you can do better or rarer items... go for it. I like standard sizing 1/4, 1/6, 1/10,1/12 etc. My acrual.preferred size is 1/6.

Ron Barrett

Weapons. As for someone mentioning no because of lack of detail. That isn't a reason not to offer. More options are always welcome as long as it doesn't take away from your current offerings

Doug

I voted NO! FDM does not give nearly the detail that resin does for the wonderful works CA3D makes for us. However, sometimes a base may be printed in FDM if it is more "simple" in design. As for cosplay, I agree with another member that mentioned it, there are way many others doing that. Now if CA3D wanted to maybe offer a lifesized prop, ok, maybe. But related to one of the works of the month. Otherwise, stay with what you do best for us please. As for scale, since another mentioned it, I disagree with the 1:9 scale, I personally prefer the 1:6 scale. I can get behind the loss of 1:4 but have been around here long enough to have quite a few 1:4 from the beginning. And I LOVE THEM! Presupporting all scales, that would be a wonderful bonus! I personally HATE supporting models! I am not good at it, and get to many fails. I over support and make a mess or under support and get fails. I never have found that sweet spot. No matter what Derek and Lychee say. Not a fan of the other one. My two cents given.

Amy W

I'm all-in for props I can use in my RPG games (all styles)

Waaagh Max

I too am for this, really itd be cool to offer presupports for all offered scales

96sayian

All for cosplay and helmets

Jr

To echo alot of others here and add my own two cents. I'm not interested cosplay prints, but as long as it doesn't affect the quality of the prints you do offer I see no reason why you cant true to offer support for FDM printing. However I would personally prefer presupports of the smaller scale figures you offer since that is my preffered scale (1/9).I've had mixed luck scaling down the presupported files offered and have settled on doing it on my own

That One Guy

I would love to see some of the amazing skills from the different artist aimed at cos play /helmets etc look for ward to it.

Peter Clegg

im not a fan of cosplay nor fdm, so my vote is no. there are a lot of patreons that already fill this market. I stick to the figurine models.

Darryl Sorensen

I use my FDM printer for all of you statues but not gonna lie, hair is a struggle. The amount of supports I have to put on strands of hair for some models make it really difficult. It's not just your models either, I've noticed most models created nowadays are made that way. Amazing detail but really hard for FDM. Anyways, I've worked around it, and I love your models either way! And yeah I'm curious about Cosplay pieces that you'd do!

DorianSalvatore

Some will disagree with this perspective. However, you do an incredible job with large scale figures meant to be resin printed (SLA.) Why expand into other endeavors, rather than continue to hone what you're doing and expand thematically?

Thomas Willmitch

Helmets and props, if a character has them.

Carlos Lovera

Absolutely! I’d love to be able to use my FDM printers for your models. I don’t have access to resin printing at the moment.

Brad Mobley

For me, the characters are interesting as they are so far. Some additions, that might be interesting. I would keep the characters as they are so far. Some of the characters are really perfect. I think filament has already been surpassed by resin printers. Maybe for some it is interesting but not for me.

Jaromír Malířský

I print the models in resin but, if there are helmet models i would print with fdm

thejjgamer Games

resin .... for the detail ....FDM if your going to print a helmet

PAT

Would love to see optimization for fdm on the larger scale models and busts, not really interested in more cosplay as tons of people do those, very fee do great models for fdm.

Crescent Creations 3D

Cosplay probs sound cool but what I would really like would be optimized files of your figures and busts. Currently I only have an FDM printer and I try to print the busts at something like 350% upscaled. So it would be a great help to have someone experienced to create this bigger models and support them.

Wyred

I do print in resin, so im not amazed by the FDM optimization, but i love to do cosplay and props and my printer is large so.... YES

Crisofilax V

I like to build replica props, helmets armour

RossReplica

Would like to see some FDM optimized models, maybe also large figures. I do not really care about cosplay.

Fai Ban

I often attend artist alleys at conventions, and bringing resin-printed busts or statues can feel a little risky. On the other hand, tossing a few FDM-printed busts into my boxes is usually no problem. One creator whose designs I always bring with me is Eastman. His models are highly optimized for FDM printing - most of them don’t even require supports! He also provides pre-supported resin files, which is a nice bonus. His style leans a bit more ‘chunky’ compared to your models, so I’m not sure how easily the approach translates. But it might be worth taking a look at how he designs for FDM to see if there’s anything you could adapt.

Thomas Smestad

im still waiting for my loyalty bonuses

alan

Just in for the minis. Maybe you could create a new Patreon for cosplay.

Davogrod Gutsucker

Bonjour à tous, je ne suis pas intéressé par le filament même si l'avantage des grandes pièces est intéressant...de part le passé, très déçu...La résine est plus pratique pour moi qui suis figuriniste. Bonne journée

chester

Cosplay and weapons/helmets would be cool! I print in both resin and FDM, and FDM just doesn't have the quality that I want for statues... So I'll stick with resin there 🤓

Nate Best

I print with a 0.25 nozzle. I dont have a resin printer. If some of the models were keyed for fdm I would be a happy man.

Daniel GONIMA

100% this!

Ryan

Cosplay things could be very good i think.

fckingbass

I am only uninterested because I am strictly a resin printer now, but I'm sure I would have loved this option if I never got into resin, so my vote is still a YES!

Ron

I'm scaling down to about 75mm scale as it is due to limits on available space. Props mean nothing to me.

Rob

As long as it doesn't come at the expense of current models i'm fine with it

Lorenz Nijs

Helmets and large scale busts would be great

Dean February

As long as the current quality of the models won't be compromised it's ok. If it will I would rather not go in this direction.

Kamil

I would be interested but only for the bases

Steveygee

Agreed not at the expense of what you produce now so please don’t overstretch yourself start small see the feedback and then make a decision on what to do next

Mr Colin A Horne

Prefer resin, especially for figure! I do imagine you’d all make great props. Not my jam, but that shouldn’t stop you ❤️

Jay, Dr Fugue

Prop a month ain’t a bad idea

Ryan Roy

I’m a huge prop maker and would love to see ya’lls take on props. But not effecting the current product you produce now. You are genuinely my favorite because of the quality. So yes if it doesn’t spread you too thin.

Deshawn Harry

I am beginning to loath resin printing. Support problems, cuts not lining up, massive post prossesing. Right now my FDM is working fairly reliably, and honestly giving results comparable to resin if I orientated correctly.

phillip trujillo

As long it doesn't affect (decrease) the current model amount you guys offer, I don't mind.

Max

I would love some of the bases to have an ftm option

Quiet Desperation

There is already plenty of places to find FDM props

Cozysocks

I print using an A1, swapping between a 0.2 and 0.4 nozzle, if some models were optimised for FDM as well as resin, that'd be awesome!!

Neil Tasker

I'd be even more interested in some models like the current ones, but that are easier to print on FDM printers.

Christian Lavoie

I'll be honest I've subscribed to you for a long time more so on waiting for the day I drop a bunch of money into resin printing but I have 5 3d printers already. If you made stuff for fdm I would be very happy also to add onto this anything you make I'd love to print

ShinuNeko

I would love this!! I use a Bambu X1 Carbon and I print a lot of weapons and cosplay props on it the most when I can as opposed to resin, your designs are so detailed and accurate I’d definitely want prints by you!

Shukakachi

print so many im running out of space lol

Clarence fils

I'm using Bambu A1 with 0.2mm nozzle. Using tree support, and cleaning little details little bit rough but its nice.

Ahmet Veli

Agree with previous poster: your quality and quantity of models is why I subscribe. As long as those two things aren't impacted by the inclusion of occasional FDM cosplay/prop models, then no problem. Sometimes I will print simple bases in FDM (from various Patreon subscriptions), but for the intricate/detailed bases you provide, resin is the way to go.

Ed_F

I would love some weapons to display on the wall and the bases for the models to be optimized for FDM so that I can print them all in one piece

Rallice

90% of the prints I do now are 1/4 or bigger so it doesn't matter. Why not add fdm to the crew.

Dougnation101

Given the choice I would prefer more models equal to those you actually provide. They are amazing and that is the reason I am so happy to be here. If you do not lower the number or quality of figures it does not hurt to have this option.

Rollo

Optimized prints for FDM as well would be amazing, especially for Bases and certain parts if the model that are easier to print FDM

4EVA_STUDIOO

I only fdm print the models it would be cool if you had bigger versions, also like scenes from movies with like room like lego tv sets

brian wise

I like the idea of props and life-size deco and stuff and for those things FDM is the only way to go. OfC not for the kind of models you are doing right now, but then thats not what you suggested anyway ^^. As for "larger models" I do wonder how much larger than 1:6 one would print any model, the space and filament required for that would make it a rare thing indeed I imagine.

Mara Oliver

it's rez or nuthin!

FISHING CAT

I can't imagine anyone trying to print these in FDM, that's like performing brain surgery with a garden spade. Resin or death.

Christopher Watson

Props and cosplay

James Kerbel

No desires to print your existing models in FDM. Resin is king for detail. That said, cosplay items would be awesome. Cut in a way to make them strong once reassembled

Gavin McFall

Perhaps some "prop" scale items. Otherwise anything 1/6 scale or smaller, I prefer using my resin printers.

Jason G

Bases optimized for FDM are super boring. No enough detail to make the model worth printing

Shirtguy

I have 10 FDM printers. Heck ya, I'm interested.

dkev

I would only be printing bases in FDM figures would still be 100% resin as they will get the scrutiny.

Dave Caldwell

Like others have said, as long as it is both.

UberMeister

I would only be interested in FDM for props or scenery

8bit

Honestly, it seems like that would be a good idea for a sister patreon/tribe. Seems it would attract more people if it was exclusively fdm friendly content. Plus you'd be able to charge for your time without needing to charge your current members more.

Chris Kaltwasser

I print 1/4 scale statues 100% in FDM. Ready to print would be great but I can also re-scale it myself if need be.

Allen Pierce

I'd say yes as long as it was in addition to the current monthly releases.

Matt Roma

New FDM printers are capable of amazing results. Yes, its not resin-level, but its also not terrible and very convenient in many other ways (not having to deal with toxic resin, the post-processing etc). Support for FDM would be amazing, as I think that many figures when printed in a large size print really well, and even some small changes in how some models are cut and the position of overhangs is enough to make them easily printable.

Taco

This

Iraklis Saltos

Would this be in addition to your current statues or would you be moving away from that? I print primarily in resin for the detail and would hate to loose that switching to fdm. I would love more dynamic busts though since that's what I mostly print out of your work. Sometimes your statues don't translate well to bust for (case in point Morgana with the wings this month or blaidd) and I'd love to see more work on that side.

Patrick

Cosplay armor and weapons would be awesome!

Celeis

I wouldn’t do a statue in FDM, but cosplay stuff… perhaps Rita Repulsa’s Staff for instance and yeah, I’d print that in a heartbeat

Simon

i only print with FDM woud be nice if you optimize for it aswell

/ /

i print my bases w fdm already

paul viana

Just optimize the bases for fdm to be used with resin models

Sgt G

I'm interested in printing larger figures with a more detailed base.

generic _san

This right here.

Akachi

No interest in optimizing the current models for FDM. Seems like a waste of time and resources better used elsewhere. I am interested in props though! I have two FDM printers and enjoy making props with those. So ultimately, I voted yes.

Dayman

I don't see the point in trying to optimize your models for FDM printing. As for cosplay items and props, sure that's interesting but not if it affects the quality of your current models.

Jason Hopkins

I'm on the fence, only because I have stayed subbed for so long because your team creates some of the (if not the MOST) high quality sculpts for resin printing. Now I also do FDM Printing, but have other avenues I take for those projects. Please do stay as-is. But whatever way you chose to go, I will at the very least give it a try <:)

Alexander Dubz

I like to resin print complete models in one piece

Jim Tanner

This also.

roberto borias

I completely agree with this!!

Mike W

THIS ^^

Jonathan Hunsucker

Bases optimized for FDM would be ideal, not the models. I generally print bases in fdm and the models in resin. If the base has a couple small intricate pieces, just separate them out for resin print.

Artem S.

What is would love to see is diorama items. Not necessary in the line of the current style. Could be like a camp or ww2 battlefield or a Japanese coffeeshop or a 60's american diner or a space ship docking bay. With printable figurines and walls, props, vehicles, etc. That would be nice

Robert Forrai

While not necessarily cosplay, I appreciate that the models do have the flexibility to add joint support using the boolean feature in Blender to create posable figures off some of the statues, primarily with msla printing.

nw

I have many Large 3d FDM

Paul Feeney

Very interested in props and replica stuff like weapons, but don’t have an FDM printer any more.

Phill Fisk

I'm planning to get an FDM printer in future. So for me an clear yes. Also an mixed resin fdm project would be cool. So we can print very detailed things in resin and bigger things with fdm, just a suggestion.😊

Rafael's 3D Print Lab

Also optimised fdm files would be great, especially for some of the larger bases.

Lee Goodman

I use both my uniformation gk2 and x1c for almost all models. Colored versions of the releases would be amazing!!! However. That being said ik how much work it is sooo.... star wars helmets and armor would be amazing.... Thanks for everything you guys do!!!!

Werewolf2025

As a casual cosplayer and seller I would absolutely love having cosplay props to make

Raina3DArt

We have a 800mmX800mmX1000mm orange storm giga, and we are printing fdm large format, so yeah, very interested.

Gareee

I ordered a FDM printer to do just this!

nesto

I'm new so I don't know if all of your models have the whole model or just parts but I love when the whole model is included as an stl it helps with scaling up and down for me cosplay and props would be awesome additions too you do really great art work thank you

Suzie Q Dragonkin33

Sounds great, I like the sound of helmets , or iconic items from characters, but personally I'm not into cosplay.

Lee Goodman

I think it would be cool, but i wouldnt want it to interefere with how the current releases are, like if an extra model was added for fdm that's be cool but replacing say half the resin line up for fdm stuff, not as big on that

96sayian

Although I haven't attempted it yet, I would like to start to print some of the weapons and helmets (looks directly at the Lich King) for display

Sam Tisci

I just got into 3d printing and fdm is my first one. I'll probably buy a resin one later in the year but would love some optimized fdm ones.

Avery Smith

Would LOVE that because I have a lot of WW1 and 2 I inherited from my family that I would LOVE to put on display

Clark Nova

Definitely cosplay stuff or even props

NerdKraft

Cosplay/costume props would be fantastic. I would personally enjoy weapons and character “collections” I.e. here is a set for everything you need for X character.

BloodRaine

I would love larger figures and helmets if the quality of your work doesn't change I'm all for it

401

I just started printing your files and only use FDM for now. One thing that would help optimize is having the heads separate from the bodies on some of the files. It would be cool to see weapons from the characters like Vash

Michael McCuin

Why aee people voting no? This is a great idea

Pete Mcneal

I mainly print 1/4 scale figure's

Scott Griffiths

Would love to see either cosplay items or things that could be added to a diorama, especially at 1/12 scale

darth.platypus

I'm very interested in large figurines

Einacore

Cosplay and props are always super cool but being able to print large statues would be awesome for sure. Resin can start to get spendy when trying to print that big

walker buck

I print the busts in FDM, but if they are props I am interested in printing the most detailed parts separately to print in resin.

Fer Alve

Don't tease me with a good time

SavageCrow13

I print in exclusively FDM/PLA I would absolutely love optimized files!

Perdita

Larger busts and statues optimized for fdm, and cosplay bits associated with any that were relevant would be amazing

Torsten

I'd be interested in cosplay props, depending on the size would determine if resin or fdm would be better, but I'm indifferent on statues for fdm, I wouldn't use them but accessibility for other users is never a downside

ApexParagon 713

Large figures yes, no to the rest, there are other creators already for people who are into that.

MonstaMunch

I print only in fdm so would love more things optimized for it as long as it doesn't cut down on the number of statues.

The Alcheprints

I've got p1s, so any fdm files should fit onto 25x25x25cm I've printed galactic armory files and some 40k stuff. Worst files were from yosh. Wasted 3kg pla. Cosplay/-Props are my Favs. Also Cyborg Cosplay.
