As the activities in the slave plant were not secret, but not necessarily intended for the eyes of the general public, the entrance to the complex was located slightly off the busy roads and waterways in a backyard. This is where the newly arrived females were carted to and where they were exposed to the scrutinizing gaze of the incoming goods staff. The attendant first checked that the delivered goods matched the loading list announced in advance. The boatwoman, who was still responsible for the delivery, observed this process obediently, as she would be punished more or less severely if the cargo was incomplete or damaged. The number of plugged females delivered seemed to be correct, now the external condition of the slave material had to be inspected.
