Certainly, it's about John's relationship with Yoko, but it's also at a time John was developing a heroin problem, so it's influenced by that kind of addiction as well. Further, John stole the "i want you" from Uncle Sam recruitment posters at the time as the Vietnam War was in full swing. Interesting note that can add yet another possible layer of interpretation.
