Ahh the crazy little brothers of Kings X. I was suprised to see this considering how much they disliked those early KX albums. Fascinating they really responded to the eclecticism of those first two albums encapsulated here. I can see how it sounds kind of exotic now, but these guys along with bands like Liquid Jesus, Mind over Four, Last Crack and Kings X were defining something called "alternative metal" where the variety of stylistic blending was the thing and you can see that it was kind of a fad that only a couple of bands escaped from (Faith No More and Janes addiction). Definitely respect the vision and creativity, but I agree the "throw everything at the wall and let's see what sticks" songwriting tends to water down the impact of the songs and lyrical content. You wonder what could have been if Geffen had the balls to work with and develop them for one or two more albums instead of screwing them hard and leaving them out to pasture. Personally I have much more use for the metal blade years, where the stunt songwriting is more focused, especially The Horse that Bud Brought. Their comeback record a few years back was pretty good, too. They have another one in the pipe after a round of Kickstarter fundage so we haven't heard the last of these weirdos yet.
