First post and have been a fan of your reaction videos for a while now. I am also a massive KX fan, and I love or at least respect every album they've ever released. I have seen them and their side projects many times, listened to countless interviews, met them on multiple occasion, and I know for a fact they are some of the most humble, genuinely nicest humans playing heavy music. I'd be hard pressed to find anyone who's seen them live in their prime who wouldn't back their abilities as elite performers. Their music is the primary reason I started writing songs and played and toured in a band and so they are well beyond what most musicians mean to me on a personal level.
The real reason I watch these videos is for these honest reactions, and here are two genuinely open minded dudes a generation removed and they are being painfully real about a band I love. I liked that Ryan got into the 'on paper' bit because while I as baffled as you are that they can't seem to penetrate the Kings X mystique - and especially with dug's vocals, which I think are one of their best weapons as a band - KX were not, and are not a band for everyone. Dug has said himself they've gotten good opportunities from the industry, better than many of their peers, but ultimately nearly every label they have worked with has lost money on them. The honesty here that while we (the fans) can assert KX may have had all the elements, it doesn't mean they actually are putting them together in ways that the general public can actually latch onto. That's some hard wisdom but I feel like it's palatable coming from people who generally strive to be positive about every band they listen to.
So while I am disappointed LIV aren't going to have a Gojira-like bromance with this legendary cult band, and based on these reactions maybe not even an Opeth-like awakening, I'll keep watching even if it never happens for the two of you :-)
