You really have to put Randy in context. These songs and his playing/composing was unique for the time. While he didn't write the melodies on certain Ozzy songs, he DID compose the solos. And that's what sets him apart. His solos were intentional compositions played with his own flourish and elegance. They were written to the song and not what you'd consider to be the improvisation of guitar chops over a background jam. I'm not diminishing that though, because guys like EVH and SRV are both incredible players who are really difficult to replicate because they could just play straight from gut to strings and were so special as well. But Randy approached his music like a classical musician in most instances, that's why the solos and fills that he performs during the songs fit so neatly into the music they're played over. Most good solos that stick with you are arranged like this by the guitarist. They aren't just random shred that you play in key. You have to have some advanced skill as a player though to do that and have it not sound really rudimentary.
