I disagree with what you said at the end about "you're doing this song no justice by not understanding the writing". Personally, one of the reasons this song is so legendary is the uncertainty of what the lyrics portray. Many have their theories, and a popular one I keep hearing which I'm inclined to agree is that this song is about the illuminati (or a secret organization that captures your soul for a contract to success). But as I said, everyone forms their own story when listening to this beautiful song, and thats what makes it beautiful to me.
