Alice Cooper - No More Mr. Nice Guy (Discussion! Final Thoughts Pt.2!!)

Comments

You need to see Alice live he has some of the best concerts out there! So what I think everyone in the comments seems to be missing is why Alice is so important to rock n roll. Alice Cooper influenced a ton of bands to up their stage performances! Alice blended the rock concert with theater. Seeing his show was like watching a play and seeing a rock concert at the same time. I don't know if you guys check comments on videos this old but you guys should Skim "Alice cooper trashes the world" it's a recorded full concert from the 3rd popularity peak of Alice cooper. I think almost all the songs from that concert are on Youtube now.

Skool You

No More Mr. Nice Guy is a cool casual song for an occasional listen, but it's no Welcome to My Nightmare.

Mikaby

When looking at old Alice Cooper songs that you might like, I would go with “I’m 18” (nice lead guitar and vocals) or “ Is It My Body” (which has a kind of funky bass line). There’s a cool video of him performing that last one live on the BBC with his snake. He looks really young, lithe, and a bit effeminate in that video. “Ballad of Dwight Fry” on live video is interesting to watch. He wears a straight jacket for that one and it speaks to the twisted personality that he portrays on stage, while still feeling accessible to most people musically.

Beth Orton – Stars All Seem To Weep

Fluffy McFluffavic Meowski O'Fluffadopolus

Please do Metallica - Bleeding Me! Another dimension to this incredible band!!

Fluffy McFluffavic Meowski O'Fluffadopolus

If y'all revisit Alice, Poison, Billion Dollar Babies, I'm 18, Welcome to my Nightmare, and Under My Wheels should definitely be considered. And I'm sure others have told you, but School's Out is exactly what you thought it was.

DaWood

At the end of the 70's, a lot of Rock bands gave the New Wave sound a try. Alice Cooper was no exception. In 1980, he cut his hair and released Flush the Fashion. It was very keyboard/synth driven. I dig some of that sound. My fave from that album was "Clones". Completely different sound as compared to their 70's heavy-groovy style and mid-80's Hair Band style.

David Valdez

You should check out Alice Cooper- Brutal Planet. It's newer and heavier, not so commercialized. The lyrics are very interesting.

Michael Vienneau

The Ocean - Mesopelagic: Into the Uncanny

Scott Carroll

DAMAGE, INC! METALLICA! PLEASE!

Janie Powell

Would love to see some Leprous, guys. Live at rockefeller - Acquired Taste. Some prog metal that is very different from anything you've checked out(amazing unique vocals, incredible buildups). Alice Cooper has always been there in the background for me. Some cool songs, but I never got into it.

Utkast

I can solve the riddle of where you've heard it before!!! Yall watched MTV back in the day right? No More Mister Nice Guy is very similar to the Beavis and Butthead theme song. (Yall made me look!) Also to get a fun glimpse into Alice Cooper check out his Muppet Show episode. He is one creepily crafty fellow. Blondie live is great- she's got an experienced band. Saw her solo once- it was not the same as the BLONDIE experience. Blondie was also had the first "rap" video on MTV (Rapture.)

Erin Lewis

This would great

Matt Cauley

Ryan you gotta give in to that shoulder shake feeling! It's fun, cool song that makes you dance? Sold!

Jet Fash

If you go back to 80s metal, please react to Whitesnake - Slow and Easy.

J B

Live in Montreal version

jamie jones

Queen!!! Do Somebody to Love!!!

Lucas Chrisman

"Easy" by The Commodores Vs. "Easy" by Faith No More.

Liam M

Love the fact you all did Cooper and I dig the new format and look

shotgun420

I officially like this format MUCH better than the old way. It's so fun to listen to you guys not being rushed and going off subject. We get more of what we're all really here for. This part could go even longer once you have the time. I'd watch an hour or longer podcast easily.

Sophisticated_Metalhead

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing

James Gribble

Dazed and Confused, great movie with lots of 70's rock. "Alright, alright, alright"

Brian McGeary

"Ball and Chain" by Social Distortion, please.

Dead Mail Tales

😘😘😘 Thanks for the shout out guys!!! I love the thought and analysis you guys put in to these reactions, so I try to be thoughtful in return when I can. Lol. Y’alls reaction was pretty much what I thought. It’s an ok song. May have heard it in the movie Dazed and Confused. That’s where I first heard it I’m sure. Looking forward to more! ✌️💗

Miss Melissa

Please react to North Mississippi Allstars - Long Haired Doney

Stefan Lien

We Will Fall Together or Would You Be Impressed by Streetlight Manifesto please! They are such a unique and impressive band, and they will blow you away. They touch on a genre that you guys haven't really covered a whole lot yet and it'll be cool to see you guys break it down and analyze it.

Josh Waterhouse

His album “Welcome to my nightmare” is one of his most artistic. I think at least.

Brandon Keeto

Also another good one is The Mars Volta's "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus" vs The Mars Volta's version of "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus. Still struggle to decide which one I like here myself.

James Mac

Gonna throw my submission in for an Original vs Cover reaction: The Supremes vs Vanilla Fudge,: You Keep Me Hangin On

James Mac

Disclaimer; I've had a few drinks. How about instead of a poll you just ask your subscribers what song, from whatever band you want to react to, should you do. Then, decide among yourselves based on the plethora of comments, which song to react to. Peace. Love. Really dig your channel. Talking Heads. Thanks!

Tim Flim

Jethro Tull's Cross Eyed Mary vs Iron Maiden's Cross Eyed Mary

Keith Reeves

First time listening to Alice Cooper. This is a very catchy song.

Christopher Jones

Please consider Jethro Tull "Cross-Eyed Mary" or "Locomotrive Breath." Thanks!

Don D

Just listened to your dad's song- absolutely beautiful! You should be so proud! (Maybe they can review this as an up and coming country artist)

debbie costello

I like the format and solid reaction.

Mike Rea

One of the guitarists for this version of the band (before it became Alice Cooper as a solo artist) actually does session work for my dad’s music. Check out Don’t Give Up On Me by Southtown Writers; powerful song, with powerful vocals from my dad, Scott Colburn

LCH30

Who’s saying it’s that serious? Aren’t people allowed to express an opinion or dissatisfaction? Sounds like you should chillax about it dude. You seem as upset as those in which you criticize for being unhappy. Music is emotional bro, surely you get that. Sometimes they’re overly emotional about it, sure. So what tho...

Frank Marinucci

Here is a really good, under the radar original vs. remake, with R&B pioneers The O'Jays hit ' For The Love Of Money" vs. Bulletboys version. Rocked up with heavy guitar riff and crushing drums and a bluesy singer in Marq Torien, with some of the best pipes in hard rock, this remake version is killer!!

Robert Whiting

Megadeth did a cover of this!

Fil

Definitely check out "Billion Dollar Babies," very different from most of the songs in the poll and I promise you can groove to it! The song cemented Cooper in my memory and it will give you a good picture of his "shock" side. Seems like you've only ever heard the glam stuff, not knocking it though

Jimmy John Jr.

I am looking forward to the original vs remake vids. I loved your Eminem vs MGK videos when all that went down and think that format will be great. Shout out to Terry Crews, definitely a Freethinker!

John Raley

Gamma Ray - Armageddon!!! Time for some power metal again 🤘🤘🤘

Magnus Andreasen

I'm watching ALL the part 2s if I understood the format,this is where y'all potentially get paid....so I'm supporting 100....... I like it,I like it allot !👊

Word Bubble

Devo vs Rolling Stones - I Cant Get No Satisfaction.

Michael Coupland

Only ones I subscribe to too! They make me smile!

debbie costello

I think what would really make people take the podcast seriously and give it a great start would be to try to get some guests on. People love podcasts with long-form interviews these days. You guys might be big enough at this point to pull in some recognizable musicians for interviews and that would be really awesome to see.

John

Mikasa by Veil of Maya!!!!!!!!!

Jake 'Outrage'

Here are a couple killer cover songs: Judas Priest covering The Green Manalishi by Fleetwood Mac and Marilyn Manson covering Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. Both covers are much better than the originals although the Fleetwood Mac version is actually pretty heavy once you adjust your ear to 60s power chords. The JUDAS PRIEST version is generally considered one of the greatest cover songs of all time.

Phil Preston

Should have played "Poison"... Classic sex-rock...

Jack Churchill

You can't go wrong with Alice Cooper, I still think yall would of liked billion dollar babies more. Slightly stoopid:2am, closer to the sun, Wiseman live at Robert's tri studio any one of these would be good.

Daryl Bruce

GUYS GUYS GUYS You can not go see Alice Cooper at a poolside venue!!!!! You have to go to the concert venue and see him. I don't care how you get there but the next time he is in Vegas. You go. You will never see a show quiet like his. It has tamed downed over the years, but it's epic! He never disappoints. And his female guitarist will blow your fucking mind!!!!

Joey Ferretta

Guys you should do: Hacride - Overcome Leprous - From the Flame and maybe Igorrr - ieuD ;)

Scoss Tard

My cover vs original suggestion would be Little Wing, SRV vs Hendrix. But that would get a takedown notice immediately, so instead, Communication Breakdown, Led Zeppelin vs Soundgarden. If you've never heard it, look for it. Chris Cornell just... becoming a legend before your ears.

Justin Vaughan

Great part 2 video. Alice Cooper is a rock legend. His stage show and music were groundbreaking in the early 70's. No Alice Cooper no KISS. Then by the late 70's he was dieing from Alcoholism. Then the comback in the 80's where having fun was king he had a good run. Then the 90's where another generation learned where Rob Zombie came from on the Ozzfest tour with Alice and Rob touring together. The point is he is one of the few rock ledgends left from that era. The song no more Mr. Nice Guy is not one of my favorites by him. I like Poison,Bed of Nails,Hey Stoopid, Eighteen etc but that's all good. I was an eighties metal head( still am.) Just because a song I vote for on a poll doesn't win will not ruin my day At least he didn't take Zappa's suggestion and rename himself Alice Cookies...

Peter J Brown

Just an FYI, I wanted to help you guys grow so I Retweeted your Patreon on my Twitter. I have almost 70,000 followers (all real) @Patriotbygod - GodGuns&Trump I know you may not be Trump fans but a lot of awesone people follow me and I wanted them to know about the great work you guys are doing. Keep it up my friends.

Daniel Lindsey

It is kind of a cheezy Alice tune. Maybe you guys should do a "Deep Cut" videos for artists.

Micah J.

Hey guys, thank you for all that you do and the obvious effort that you put towards these videos. It's good to have the transparency and fresh air that you bring to the YouTube game. As for a request, if you guys find the time I would really love to see you try out Between the Buried and Me again. They can be a lot all at once, but once you pick up on some of the intricacies in their music they become a very fulfilling listen. "The Coma Machine" is a great song in its own right, but imo not fully representative of what they're about. Personally, I think you should check out "The Proverbial Bellow" at some point, as I think it's a pretty good representation of their overall sound. Once again, thanks for all you do; keep it up!

Chase Livingston

I dig the idea of cover reactions. Because most metal folks have a huge variety of influences you’ll have more songs to choose from than you could imagine. Some of my personal favorites are “Sail” by AWOLNATION and Devildriver, “Burn In Hell” by Twisted Sister and Dimmu Borgir and “Sympathy For The Devil” by The Rolling Stones and Motörhead.

Ty McNeeley

Mr. Nice Guy....... glad Ryan brought up Megadeth- yes, they did cover this track and it could be a good start to your original vs. cover idea, just know that Mega’s version of the song is not a reflection of what Mega brings to the table. That said... I’d recommend House of Fire (or Poison off of his biggest record) but I agree with dabbling into the early career and even stuff of his latest records. In the day- radio would be all over what was new from these established artists, today not so much which is where you guys come in. A lot of bands, musically, have been releasing their best records now and they barely get touched by radio.

Big Dave

Eh, never been a big fan of that track, it always seemed a bit self indulgent to me. A lot of, “hey look how technical we are, look what we can do” , going on. Not a bad song but Rush has better choices like Natural Science, The Trees, By-Tor and the Snow Dog, La Villa Strangiato.

Frank Marinucci

Not sure about this specific track but Shadows Fall is worthy of your attention.

Frank Marinucci

I think the only people who should be allowed to vote are those holding an official document with a raised seal from the band’s fan club saying they are a certified true fan. Yeah, sarcasm. Honestly why do people get so upset about these polls or which song wins? It’s two random guys making reaction videos on the internet. It’s not that serious. I’ve met Alice Cooper and his entire band, seen him live several times and have Alice’s signature tattooed on my arm. Is No More Mr. Nice Guy my favorite Alice song? No. Am I gonna let it ruin my day that this is the song that won the poll? No. Perspective, y’all. The world will keep spinning and your life will go on. Oh and yes, George, his band members do actually do the fist pump in the chorus when they play this song live :)

Shan5

“Word to ya mutha” - Vanilla Ice. Seriously though, there’s a LOT of classic stuff and newer type shit y’all haven’t looked at yet. Ozzy and uncle Ted certainly shouldn’t be overlooked, but newer era shit like Volbeat, Steel Panther, Rival Sons, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, Death Angel and The Winery Dogs to name a few.

Frank Marinucci

I dig the new format fellas! Here are a few original vs. remake suggestions: Crazy Train-Ozzy Osborne vs. Bullet for My Valentine; Carry on My Wayward Son-Kansas vs. Gwar.

Bryan

Also, also, please consider doing Xanadu by Rush. It may be their greatest overall musical achievement. That's saying a lot for band of Rush's caliber!

Randy S.

You guys are doing a great job, you're still the only people I subscribe to on Patreon. I always felt this song was purposefully a little facetious. The lyrics are funny, there's a little doowop section towards the end, etc. He's getting all this pushback on his shock rock so he makes a rebuttal within a a more commercial and accessible song. Paul McCartney did something similar with Little Love Song. Anyway, I think you'd be more into songs like Billion Dollar Babies or Generation Landslide by Alice.

Randy S.

Shadows Fall - Dead and Gone

Maneatingpie

It certainly is. I remember getting the soundtrack when it was released, and being desperately disappointed by some of it.

Steve Cowan

I'm pretty sure the Megadeth version is from the Shocker soundtrack. That was a 1989 horror movie about a serial killer coming back to life after being sent to the electric chair.

Jamie Laszlo

Your comment also made me think that Patrons could vote like this too (similar to reactions on Facebook). Less scientific means of choosing the songs but more information

Tom Basson

FATES WARNING - STILL REMAINS. PLEASE!!!

Markus Orth

I was thinkinking they should have a unique rating system for the songs. Like terrible, alright, I can rock out to this, rhis shits fire, and playlist or similar.

Mark

Yall have to get to “Stranglehold” by Ted Nugent. Set his personality and beliefs aside and do it. It’s a great song by one of the most influential guitarists in rock history. Oh yeah, an Ozzy poll would be nice as well.

Brian Hardin

Great reaction guys. Dig the new look and two part format. It's really what you have have to say about the music that counts, regardless if it's in one, two or three parts. Here's a fun little clip for you two to check out on your own about Alice Cooper's beginning and getting signed to Frank Zappa's record label. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8YVYqEGc34 Frank Zappa should get a listen sometime as well. Very unique artist.

Tim Flim

I voted for this over Poison because I didn’t like the 80’s commercial Alice. However this was 70’s commercial Alice which was better in my opinion. I’m Eighteen has better lyrics & a rougher sound. Ballad of Dwight Fry as well is better example of early career. Maybe find some old clips as well, it’ll help clue you in as to why Reverend Smithy would want to punch him in the nose

Jimmy Shadowen

Im gonna throw out a content idea that I think would be cool is if you took bands who went through a lead singer change and compare and contrast them and yall pick a personal favorite. Van Halen, AC DC, Black Sabbath and Three Days Grace are some bands that come to mind

Alan Ledesma

Haha! And, c'mon, they're not exactly lined up parallel, are they? :)

Ben Richardson

Prog-Tuesdays! I love it! More Yes, Genesis, Rush, King Crimson ...

Ben Richardson

Or, have a poll for a band with hits but don't put the hits on the poll. The problem there is, what if one of the hits is also a great song that even the core fans like too. The other possibility I can think of, somehow identify the real fans first, then see which songs those people vote for. Maybe an exclusive poll for only those people, or a normal, open poll where the core fans get weighted votes. How you would do one of these things, I have no idea. But if someone could figure that out, it could solve the polling bias problem.

Ben Richardson

Can we talk about your greasy laptops tho? LOL. It's just too easy man....

Frank Marinucci

The new audio setup sounds great and I dig the Vegas skyline background. ...and now my standard request. I'd love to hear you do a reaction to Paranoid Android by Radiohead. IMHO, it's the pinnacle of 90's alternative rock. It also features some great transitions throughout the song.

Bryna

If you watched Wayne's World, you've heard Feed My Frankenstein. It's the song they play in that live scene with Alice Cooper. If you've seen Dazed and Confused, you've heard No More Mr. Nice Guy because they play it in that movie, as well as School's Out, if I'm not mistaken. Alice Cooper has a lot of songs in movies throughout his career.

Eric Day

Great reaction as always guys, and I loved the podcast!! It is really nice hearing you break down some of the behind the scenes elements of doing what you do. I don’t like the new 2-video format quite as much, but hearing your justification for it on the podcast makes a lot of sense. I appreciate your honesty about it and you are absolutely right that it is the format you should be doing and it’ll grow on me. When you guys start doing Prog-Tuesday’s 😉 it’d be great to hear some more Rush love, or a lesser-known band like Seventh Wonder or Ayreon.

Rob

The song is what it is, but you did a great job with part 2. This guy is a legend to a lot of people and I appreciate you were fair and honest. Alice Cooper is not my thing but I could hear what you were saying. Normally I would not listen to Cooper but I think, in watching this and a lot of your reactions, I got new insight into a guy who was a staple in his time.

debbie costello

Love the new format! Keep 'm coming...😀

Rachael Hensley

Agreed...this is a more fun type of Alice Cooper song. If you want to hear darker stuff from Alice, some of what was on your poll originally is the way to go. Ballad of Dwight Fry, I Love The Dead, Dead Babies, Steven etc...but I would also say that Alice isn’t an artist that has just a 70’s era then a 80s era etc...he jumped around a lot...like by the late 70s he was closer to soft rock than he was hard rock....but in a very interesting/not really poppy way. He also dabbled with new wave and so on. To me I’m Eighteen is his signature song...somewhere in the middle of fun and dark...but an anthem for sure

Chris White

What is the name of your podcast. I tried looking it up so I could add it to the list of podcasts I like and I don't see yours.

David Burleson

AND OF COURSE... a great poll for a band that has NO radio hits would be Epica. However, I would not wqant you to do a poll for them because Kingdom of Heaven would definitely win that poll. Indeed, it is the band's best song, but in the same way that Metropolis is (one of) Dream Theater's best songs. Fans love it, but it's not exactly accessible. The Cosmic Algorithm is an amazing song with groove, hook, and intensity, and is a perfect representation of not only the band but the Symphonic Metal genre as a whole. I really hope it gets a reaction soon, so I can move on to recommending something else :) (probably Rush--something off of Clockwork Angels or Hemispheres...)

Justin Vaughan

Melissa 100% free thinker hall of fame.

Axey

Melissa is absolutely correct. I've said this about the poll videos since the first: if you are going to do a poll contest for a band that has one or two big hits but has an otherwise hardcore fan base, then it's not worth doing the poll. The radio hit will win, and all the hardcore fans will be upset, because most of the voters will not be huge fans and they'll want to just hear LIV's reaction to the song they know. My serious suggestion is that you only do polls for bands that have no radio hits whatsoever, or a band or artist that has MANY hits, and there is no guarantee that any one or two songs that will win. ZZ Top was an excellent example of the last scenario. Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin would be other good poll options.

Justin Vaughan

Don't cut down Blondie. Parallel Lines was one of the great early New Wave albums.
