Monster Essays Centaurs

Centaurs have been in the background and even that’s only pretty recently, if I remember right. I think their weird builds are really fun to mess with but impractical to describe, but that’s what makes them interesting. Leaned into their awkward size and angles compared to the other species, and having someone short and flexible around like a human makes those hard to reach spots really helpful. Could see giving one a fic sometime.

On Horseback. The History of Centaurs
**B+. Consistently catchy titles. May be getting ahead of yourself with the inclusion of sphinxes and other demi-humans.**
The introduction of minotaurs had a notable shift in the increase of publicly known monster species. Minotaurs were apparently a very social species in the unknown world of monsters, and their reappearance brought a wave of other monsters in their wake. Even the term “monster” itself had lost most of its bite by now, and even its conventional meaning of “atrocious or terrifying” has been gradually weaned out of the English language.
While minotaurs tended to stay hidden in caverns and canyons, centaurs were known to hide in plain sight. Their large builds made them comfortable living in broad, open areas, so “veiling” magic was common use as they roamed the valleys of Europe, Italy and more secluded regions of America. Centaurs proved to be incredibly amicable creatures, quickly befriending humans and the rest of the public world. Actually adapting to their culture would prove a more difficult step.
Centaurs are much like humanity pictures them. They have effectively human upper bodies, featuring red or blonde hair almost exclusively and flexible spines that can rotate almost 180 degrees. Most notably, their lower bodies are that of horses. Specifically, they are most often compared to Clydesdales for their thicker, longer fur that protects their hooves. Centaurs have the benefit of denser bone structure than horses, making them slightly slower than a normal horse and rider but much stronger and more resistant to injury. The human torso gradually merges with the equine half, growing furrier and more muscular around the abdomen before becoming fully horse-like. The -taur suffix was adopted by several similar offshoots, with the rarer breeds found with lower bodies of wolves, cats, or reptiles.
Centaurs are a fairly populated race but they were slow to merge with modern society. To this day, fewer than 10% of all centaurs live in large scale cities. The fact remains that their size, weight and mobility makes the cramped quarters impractical. Even when businesses cater to accommodate the large quadrupeds, merely navigating the streets can be difficult for them. Hooves that can break human toes with a misstep and a body too long to fit in certain elevators or bathroom stalls make them effectively handicapped in unprepared locations.
Most centaurs remain in the countryside or wide-open areas. Their mobility and lifestyle makes them very capable as ranchers and farmers, so their population tends to focus around such areas. Their isolated and rural lifestyle leads to many centaurs featuring a regional accent, with southern or Irish drawl being the most common.
Due to their relatively secluded ways, centaur culture is among the better maintained compared to other races. They maintain a simplistic spiritualism, something that certain tribes associate with Native Americans or ancient barbaric tribes of Eastern Europe. Studies suggest that due to their free-roaming and fun-loving lifestyle, centaurs have shown very little interest in modern religion. While they tend to avoid confined urban areas, they are extremely welcoming to outsiders who come to them. Centaur elders in particular show great pride in their techniques for brewing traditional wines. It is worth noting that despite their size, centaur wine is safe (if intoxicating) for humans to drink; their upper bodies process most food before distributing it to their lower half, which lets them get just as drunk as humans off of it.
Centaurs have even found an almost symbiotic relationship with local humans. Since their appearance, the known races had their usual curiosity about their new neighbors. Humans in particular proved interesting to centaurs, as their height and reach was nearly ideal for them. Grooming can prove difficult for the larger creatures without proper tools. More maneuverable humans willing to brush, clean or simply itch their lower halves quickly became a fascination of theirs. It is not uncommon for a colony of the most secluded centaurs to have a nearby “centaur ranch” where they will regularly visit for some personal care, like a half-farm, half-spa.
With that came the fascination with centaur sexuality. With their genitals mostly out of sight to begin with thanks to their longer fur, centaurs tend to wear shirts and at most, a basic blanket or skirt attached to their lower bodies. This also means that centaurs are almost incapable of manual masturbation, with “going to branch” (grinding against a tree or soft surface) being the only means they had short of finding a partner. Of course, modern developments have led to specialized, remote controlled vibrators and the like specially made for their larger equipment.
Many centaurs developed a kink for exhibitionism and embarrassment between their noble and secretive pasts and the looks they got as a more exotic species. Once free-roaming and natural, there is a guilty pleasure behind being coddled and tended to by smaller races. Their large, durable bodies can take a lot of rough treatment and their oversized genitalia are unwieldy, so a centaur can (and do) easily make a fair amount of interest/money via webcams. They remain among the most in-demand species in pornography (alongside holstaurs and goblins), and “dominated centaur” stays high on adult search engines. With their own inability to masturbate, centaurs are often quick to find a human to help them with such urges (whether privately or pornographically) and bond with them easily, even if on a casual sense.
As much as centaurs need their space and mobility, they remain open to the modern monster-human community. A slow trickle of centaurs move to the cities while businesses move to accommodate them to the point where Tonab Motors has produced a centaur-driveable truck. Their physical separations have not left them unable to share the communal spirit of other races.
