It would’ve been great to see the leading video . Look I’m from a time where boy bands in western music was everything. Take that, west life, boys to men , east 17, backstreet boys, new kids on the block, New edition, boy zone and many many more. Let’s not forget the Jackson Five and boy bands from that era if not before . You can not have a future with out a past, some one has walked before us or someone follows us in life and paving the way is so those after you can walk forward and possibly make a new path but someone one day will follow that path. Life is always evolving it will be a continuous chain of “New” I was born in the 70’s , grew up in the 80’s, was in my 20’s in the 90’s, became a mum in the 2000’s , listened to loads of different music in the 2010’s that was a mix of my kids fav’s my fav’s and our fav’s & in the 2020’s I’m loving old music and new music. My father passed away at 94 last month and not long ago whilst visiting my home he said “Love life and love all sorts of music because Music is the voice of your soul “ I think that’s pretty good advice Sorry about the rant ♥️ What I’m trying to say is that of course always pay homage to to those before you but never loose sight of what’s happening right now so you can enjoy the future. Nigel you are an absolute legend and I love all your reactions. I’m an Aussie stay listening to K-pop in her 50’s and I get just as excited about as you . I’m off to see the boys in Sydney next week with my youngest daughter, my eldest daughter and her fiancée. Look after ya self and keep being you 😀

Thank you for mentioning that SKZ are doing their own thing and made it their way and are not in the shadows of BTS. That interviewer def was trying to set Felix up but I think he answered correctly when mentioning who paved the way for all boy groups. BTS and Stray Kids have def have made it their own way by their own terms and have been very successful. This performance was nostalgic for me and I really enjoyed this reaction Nigel 💙

I'm just repeating what Chan said about a year ago in a Chan's Room. They are now doing things others haven't that's true. I think Chan meant that BTS opened the door to even make it possible to happen. That's all I meant. I love Stray Kids. They've gotten me through some dark times.

Therefore, although I'm not an ARMY, out of kindness, I still want to remind you that everyone is entitled to their opinions, even Nigel. Yeah I feel you with the analogy I felt the same way then had to go back and watch their debut MV and title tracks till their latest cause I feel like a damn proud mama bear. HOWEVER, that interviewer was baiting these fellas to mention BTS whether intentionally or not- I do think those that paved the way wasn't solely BTS but they were at forefront, I think 2nd gen contributed a lot in the shadows too... anyway... ALL IN ALL- SKZ is refreshing and like you said on a lane of their own honestly and it'll be hard to be in their shadow cause they are unique IMO (as a kpop stan since 2007) XD

They where not Born as BYE BYE BYE came out 😀 but nigel is right to say that Deadpol made the choreo and the song remembert or introduct to the young ons so i think its okay. Every time someone asks who paved the way, an angel loses its wings. Whether Felix said BTS or not, armys would harass him. This has been happening since about 2020 with skz and I'm tired of it. If Felix said BTS, they would talk mess and if he didn't, they would talk mess. I'm so tired of it all. I left twt because of it.

when talking about kpop specifically yes bts definitely had a huge huge hugeeeee part in paving the way BUT in this specific question they were focusing on boygroups everywhere (even tho they for sure also created a huge different fan culture) and honestly thank GOD they didnt mention a kpop group cuz the second they did they wouldve been attacked for mentioning one and not another etc etc theyve mentioned bts countless of times, Bangchan specifically has said that bts paved the way for them so we know they do believe it but its important for them to create their own image and since bts is so massive in western countries, on big shows like this its important for them to show people that they arent bts, theyre their own thing thats completely seperate. so many people compare bts and other kpop groups that mentioning them wouldve just made people assume theyre the same? idk if that makes sense the way ive said it but yeah.

The question thou was about boy bands in general who paved the way and when we all just think about that for a sec, the way Felix answered that was the correct way. He mentioned that a lot of groups paved the way but mentioning nsync specifically because they were performing their song was the right answer. There were sooo many legendary boy groups before Kpop was really a thing outside of South Korea..

The thing with the question “who do you think paved the way?” is that is controversial, Felix answered really well bcs he said there are so many boy bands that have paved the way and mentioned nsync bcs of the stage collaboration. Armys were harassing Felix on twitter bcs of that, they were calling him ungrateful and much more things bcs they just want to hear bts everywhere but bts DID NOT pave the way for boy bands, they paved the way for kpop ofc but not for boy bands.

A lot of folks didn’t realize that the entire segment was the tribute to boy bands, not just SKZs four minutes of performance time. If you watched the broadcast you saw an entire video package chronicling the history of modern boy bands throughout the many decades of the AMAs before the guys took the stage. One of the first bands shown in that video was BTS (on stage literally winning an AMA). They were given recognition right alongside the American boy bands. Felix’s impromptu answer doesn’t deserve the backlash that it’s receiving all over social media. Also, the tight window of time they had to perform was used as productively as possible by doing the Bye Bye Bye / Chk Chk Boom mashup. If they come off tour to record this performance they might as well feature their own song along with a single iconic boy band song as opposed to doing an entire medley of other folks songs. What makes me most proud is knowing most likely it was Christopher who mixed that mashup (or at least had a major roll in it) like we’ve seen him do hundreds of times before. I truly loved that performance soooooo much!

Here are my thoughts, I’m a diehard ARMY since 2015, and I would say BTS CONTINUED to finalize and fully staked the foundation of K-pop for South Korea in the western market. I understand the pride ARMY have for BTS (I have it too) but I experienced many first and second gen K-pop groups before BTS in bits and pieces that opened my mind to K-POP and I think these groups began laying that foundation prior ti BTS (I’m thinking wonder girls/dbsk(tvxq)/big bang). I do think out of the 4th gen groups, SKZ is the most global and well known internationally of the boy groups and they are doing really well with their promotions and influence. I know there is some hate amongst the two fandoms at many points but I truly believe SKZ have zero negative feelings against BTS and have given only love and even credit to them helping their success in the western market obtainable. (Please don’t mince my words on that, SKZ is talented and their success is their own, but in the western market, getting known and promoted was always, and can still be difficult for foreign artists, skz did all the work, but they had opportunities opened in the west with the break through of K-pop in western markets). Honestly, if BTS hadn’t been able to do it, I truly believe SKZ would have done it, the group really has the same drive/motivation that I see in BTS. So, while I’m not a STAY, I do support them and their success and even love a lot of their music. In terms of boy bands overall, in the western market, NSync, NKOTB, Backstreet Boys (hell, the Jackson five), these groups paved the way for boy groups in the west. I’m not knowledgeable on the influence of western boy groups in South Korea but I wouldn’t be surprised if they influenced K-POP boy groups to an extent as well. SKZ seems familiar with *NSYNC so there seems to be some truth in that thought. SKZ did amazing, and I love that they all seemed so excited 💜

If they brought BTS up or if they didn’t, either way it would’ve been an issue. Clearly they did a collab stage with nsync, so ofc when they’re talking about boybands they’re gonna bring them up 😀 bts may have paved the way for Korean pop groups internationally, but boyband culture and fandoms existed LONG before they were even thought of, and were popularized by many different groups prior to them like nsync, Jackson 5, Beatles, Backstreet Boys, 1D, etc etc. The question was answered reasonably, and anyone dog piling on Felix for it is a dumbass. Yes Nigel, they already dropped the Tower of God OST on 6th. Can’t wait to see u reacting to “Night” and “Falling up”. They released it in a few versions, which are japanese, korean and english. Deadpool was dancing to a real choreography by NSYNC nigel🤣 I love for the fact that SKZ remained the original choreography for the bye bye bye since this was a tribute. Made it more nostalgic in a way.

FFS i knew big bang and exo well before i knew bts and i was never into kpop until last year. ngl bringing up bts pissed me off. bts blew up but they weren’t the start of kpop in the west and they aren’t the true pavers they were just fortunate that they became more known at the right time when the before mentioned groups had already previously before them opened the public up to kpop. been seeing armies spewing shit since the performance was announced so i’m kinda not happy to see those three letters in succession at all rn. sorry for the rant but fr can we leave that group out of the convo when it come to skz??? armies are so obsessed with hating skz online and im tired of seeing my guys accomplishments and relevancy being watered down because supposedly bts was the ones that made it possible, and not skz own hard work and talent. i firmly believe they would have been just fine if bts never existed. i’ll never credit bts for anything other than their own popularity as long as armies feel the need to trend that fuck ass hashtag EVERY time a different group achieves something.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed...not because of the performance because they KILLED THIS!...but because when I heard that this was to be a homage to Boy Bands I thought that they would be incorporating more than just *NSYNC...I mean AJ Mclean helped to introduce them and he's in Backstreet Boys...they could have included, Jackson 5, Boys II Men, Menudo, New Kids, New Edition, One Direction, Heck...even the Beatles were considered a boy band in the beginning of their career...So many other groups from around the world that were also popular in the US they could have included. That being said...they really did an awesome job with this!

Bts paved a way for kpop boy groups but not boy groups in general this was about boy groups in general. Boy groups that came before bts which is a lot! That’s more household names. So why would they mention bts? No shade just saying. If they were to ask a American boy group that question they wouldn’t mention bts either 😀

BTS only paved the way in terms of KPop but boy bands primarily from America have been around for decades so obviously being at an American Awards show as well Felix was quite correct in what he said and l have heard he is getting some flack back home for it already which is ridiculous

I loved the performance so much. My only gripe with it is the fact that they called it a boy band tribute performance when it was really just a tribute to NSync which is perfectly fine but don't get us hyped up for them to possibly do other boy bands and it's just one out of the mini that's been popular.
