I loved this episode but the torture scenes were hard to watch! It's nice that we got to kind of focused on Wash and Zoey in this one. Also, I can't believe that moment with River! She looked so bad ass lol I hope Kaylee tells Simon about it soon!

We did see a little bit of bickering between Wash and Zoe in the first (I think) episode, so this didn't come completely out of the blue. It was even over the same issue: "Don't forget to call him sir, he likes that" Kaylee just saw River randomly (seemingly) attack a crew member with a knife last episode. Now she's just seen how good River is with a gun. She's understandably scared, wondering if River will just randomly decide to shoot them all one of these days.

2024-08-14 08:01:17 +0000 UTCI mentioned last episode, that I'm pretty sure that Mal intended to drop Jayne out that cargo bay door, and only changed his mind from Jaynes plea to not let the others know what he'd done. I believe that the quote from Shan Yu they repeat refers to that. You can live with a man for years, sit down for meals with him, but hold him over a volcano (or miles above the planet) and you'll finally see his true self. Mal saw Jaynes true self in that moment. Also Long ago Jayne asked Mal to get Kaylee to stop being so cheerful. Mal said he didn't think there was a power in the verse that could stop her from being cheerful. Now "No power in the verse can stop me" and Kaylee doesn't look so cheerful.
