Loved this episode! We finally got to learn more about what those people did to River's brain and will possibly get more information in the future since Simon has scans of her brain now. Jayne betrayed everyone in this episode which isn't too surprising but I'm still annoyed that he did it. He really deserved what Mal did to him at the end. That was kind of crazy though lol

I think I'm the only one that feels for Jayne. Random crew member walks up to me and cuts me in my chest, outa no where, and no one cares or takes my words seriously even tho in this instance I'm the victim.. Completely dismissed. Now I'm scared, feeling unsafe in my home, and everyone treats it like a big joke. I'm not surprised he took it upon himself to do something about it.

The whole β€˜make something up, don’t tell em what I did’ , is what saved him, he in his own way didn’t want the others to think bad of him, well, maybe they already do πŸ˜…

Episode one: Mal-"How come you didn't turn on me, Jayne?" Jayne-"Money wasn't good enough". Mal-"What happens when it is?" Jayne-"Well, that'll be an interesting day". And it was. Also, last episode, when we learned how Jayne joined the crew, and how he became a 'folk hero', it's not at all surprising. I think what was surprising to Jayne himself, and what saved his life, was that he cared what the rest of the crew would think of him.

You were actually right. Besides just that she was getting worse, there was a reason River cut Jayne. It's never covered in the show, but behind the scenes background story. There's a corporation in the 'verse called Blue Sun. That corporation was also involved with the Alliance in the experiments done on River. Back when she was tearing the labels off of the cans of food, those were Blue Sun brand. And here Jayne was wearing a Blue Sun shirt. Technically she was attacking the shirt, not Jayne himself. I think that Jayne's "Change of plan" was actually him having a change of heart. Most likely the original plan he made with the Alliance was for them to catch them in that room the crew left Jayne, River and Simon. After seeing Simon save the guys life, and then finding out how they had cut into Rivers brain over and over again, he changed his mind on turning them in, and the "Change of Plan" was actually to get them out of there before the feds showed up. Mal definitely intended to let Jayne get sucked out the port hole, until he saw Jaynes concern over how the others saw him. I'll explain more on that next episode.

Upon further rewatches, when Jayne tells Simon the plan changed you can see red flashes in River’s brain scan before she screams… Why would that happen?

It's hard to spot, but just before Jayne picks up the hospital uniforms, you can see that he contacted the feds. I don't think Jayne called the feds just for the money. My reasoning being that he was offered a reward for turning over River and Simon in the first episode and he had plenty more opportunities to turn them in, but he never did. Now that River cut him for seemingly no reason though, Jayne thinks that River is a danger to himself and the others on the ships that he likes. This is just speculation, but I think Mal was going to let Jayne die. However, when Jayne told Mal to make something up about why he died, Mal realized that Jayne felt guilty about what he did and so he probably wouldn't try it again.
