This was such a cute episode! I loved seeing Kaylee getting to do something fun and out of her norm. Plus seeing Mal go to a ball like that was funny enough lol We also got a lot of focus on his relationship with Inara which I obviously really enjoyed!

They were trying to keep River hidden, as the Alliance is looking for her, and Badger would sell her out for any gain he could get. And it wasn't so much that they needed more time for a diversion, so much as they themselves were taken aback, or diversioned themselves by her act.
