Me at cat videos that don’t result in spay and neuter for all adult cats
Also poverty and various human rights violations in my birth country 🙃🙃

I'm so sad every time I see the fish crammed in tiny spaces!
CW: animal death/stress response/animals eating others
I was furious every time I saw the freshwater crabs packed in with a bunch of other fish and dozens of their own kind! They often ate each other and the fish in the tank too! Same for "sucker fish" which led to people not wanting them for believing this was the norm. I started sending emails to corporations since I was a teen about the horrible animal conditions and how they shouldn't have them for sale at all if they couldn't accommodate the spaces necessary! Fortunately, whether because of people writing and calling them or for their own corporate greed reasons, I haven't seen a Walmart or similar with an aquatics section in awhile. I hope it stays that way!
PS: I also bought feeder fish and mice as pets as a kid and did my best to keep them as happy as all the books and pamphlets I could read at the time informed me of. I hope their lives were at least better than before and ideally fairly happy and low stress 💜

When I worked overnights as a stocker at Wal-Mart (hell job), I sneakily took care of the bettas. I'd do (safe) water changes, medicate anyone who was sick (ick, mostly) & give everyone a bloodwörm snacc. It broke my heart to see them, so I said F it & risked getting hollered at for "wasting time." Selling animals in stores is so often abhorrent & rife with neglect. I hate it.

I feel this so hard 🥲 It’s been like a decade since, but I used to work in the pet department at a Walmart and took on so many sickly fish (including a betta)….. so glad to see the fish tanks in those stores are nowhere near as common as they used to be, that was a nightmare.

ok literally i adopted one of my hamsters bc i was buying cat food at a Big Box Pet Supply and they had a table w/ some cages on it and a single piece of printer paper that said something along the lines of "free hamsters" so like. what else was i supposed to do

Same here 🥲 Can we just… NOT keep them in tiny cups……. 😭 Just they CAN survive (for a time) in limited water doesn’t mean they SHOULD

I don't think I ever picked out any pet as a kid that didn't seem the most sickly and sad of the bunch... it is in our dna
