Breed Guide: Newfoundlands!

Happy Monday to all my Garfields out there! I hope you're having a good one!

Love these dorks. God, such a treat anytime I get to draw a dog such as this. Melty AND fluffy?! Good lord! I dunno what it is, but it's like a moth to a flame for me. I used to have this book about Snuffaluffagus from Sesame Street when I was a kid, and I'd just open it and stare at the imagery of him for hours on end. I think my obsession started there... We didn't have the internet or TV ok!? Giant floofy creatures was alls we had, and we liked it, damnit!!

One of my all-time favorite dogs was a Newfie mix named Hank. He was so sweet and chill. Also short and stout and kinda looked like a footstool

THE PUPPY VISION I am losing it

Funny about snuffaluffagous. Snewfaluffagous might be a good name. I always think of the Dr Seuss book, “A fish out of water” when I wonder where my need to have a newfie came from. I love drawing them as well. It’s actually what started my interest in drawing! I have tons of pics if you ever want a good reference! My boy has the most gorgeous big head which leads to lots of drool. I call him Sloppenstein & Goofoundland but snewf-aloof-agous might be heard in my household soon!!

I love newfies so much!! They are also super kind and level-headed. But yeah they shed infinity amounts.

That’s too cute! And omigosh those beetles went on the ride of a lifetime! 😂

So my first newfie actually combined two of your traits; she first tried saving me from swimming in a pool, and instead ended up in my arms like a bride! And our current newf, Gatsby, wants you to add Japanese beetles to things hidden in their luxurious coats. I’ve actually taken both dead (hidden well as a tangle & may have been live when it first arrived on him), and live out of his coat! He’s two at the end of this month & his coat is already about 5” thick! They are the most awesome needy dogs though! Thanks for this! Spot on & hilarious as usual ♥️🐾

I love the mental image of that. Imagine jumping into those piles! 😂😭

Lived close to a certified newfoundland dog breeder, can confirm all points above, as well as that the breeder raked her lawn for fur, not leaves.
