This episode took way longer to edit than I expected. I just kept rambling on for like 40 minutes lol Anyway, I'm going to keep this short because I'm kind of tired, but I really enjoyed this episode! We got answers about Dawn already which I wasn't expecting and we met a new villain who I like a lot so far!

I really love this episode. First, it's epic. The culmination of seasons of foreshadowing being revealed. Plus just the awesomeness of learning that the show seriously just magiced in a full character into not just the show, but into the past of the entire show. Add in the abomination, as the monk called her, and we have just leveled up the whole Buffy show to level a million in greatness. Also, I just love this episode, because I'm such a nerd for the slayer lore, and so many of the previous episodes have built up to this that it's just extra awesome. Okay, so we have just learned that Dawn has been a human for about 2 months. A mind blowing thing is they've been telling us this in subtle ways since episode 2. Look at how clumsy Dawn is. Also, how socially awkward she is, like not knowing what she said in the magic shop could be embarrassing to Buffy an could hurt (the other) Riley's feelings. The monks gave her memories, but they couldn't give her the fine motor skills we learn over time so we don't trip over things or drop things. We also slowly have to learn social cues and norms. Since Dawn is in reality only 2 months old, she hasn't learned these things yet, so she's super awkward, like a young child. Other things are how the memories have affected everyone around her. The monks focus was to have Dawn protected, so the memories also implanted feelings of empathy and protectiveness towards Dawn. If you go back and watch closely, people tend to touch Dawn more than they usually touch others. Also, they tend to forgive her easily and act protective her when Buffy is getting testy towards her. Then there's Buffy. In episode 2, Buffy says how things were different a while before. They were all a big happy family getting along, but recently Dawn had been irritating her just being being near her. This points out where the implanted memories Buffy has ends and where her actual interactions with Dawn start. Just like her slayer sense warned her in Ted (3x11), Living Conditions (4x02), and Superstar (4x17), her slayer sense was letting Buffy know something wasn't right about Dawn by making her irritated whenever Dawn was near. Since Buffy never really trained that ability though, she overlooked it and just thought something was off with her recently. In the end though, the thing I love the most about this episode is how Buffy reacts to learning the truth about Dawn and especially about her innocence in the situation. Buffy has these memories of Dawn, and right up to when she learns about Dawn's innocence, she's wanting the augmented memories removed. Then she 'eaves that off, but you can see right up to catching herself talking about how Dawn could never take an apology that she was still resisting the memories. Then you can see the moment she decides that, despite knowing the memories are fake, she now accepts them as her true past when she starts brushing Dawn's hair. Everyone else had been overly affectionate with Dawn due to their augmented memories. Buffy in that moment calmed her slayer sense and allowed the memories to take hold, which urged her to start being affectionate with Dawn, thus she began stroking her hair. So many subtle details to non verbally cue us into what is going on, it's kind of crazy.
