Ruin Me 0.28 Preview and 0.27 Notes
Added 2020-09-09 17:26:16 +0000 UTCHi, perverts! Thanks again for your patience with my weird schedule the last few weeks; I'm feeling a lot more stable and confident now. Also, happy belated Labor Day to those of you in the US and Canada! I hope you're able to have the best working experience possible in the current situation.
I'm planning to put up a new poll this week for my Center of Attention patrons, on what the next play scenes should be. I've finally worked my way through most of the results of the last polls! Remember, you're always welcome to provide feedback, and Center of Attention patrons are invited to make specific requests for bits of writing that you'd like to see in the game.
Notes on Historical Research
Ruin Me is set in a certain vaguely-defined era between the two World Wars, and while I'm not inflexible about historical accuracy, I do try to do basic slightly-more-than-Wikipedia research to keep out major anachronisms. This also helps add a bit of richness to the setting, as I'll often come across a fact or image that inspires some background flavor.
By far, the most of this research is directly on sexual matters. I know a whole lot about historical sex technology at this point! Latex condoms existed at the time, but silicone toys wouldn't show up for decades. Vibrators were commonplace, but they were pretty bulky; think a Magic Wand rather than anything like a bullet or classic tapered toy.
It's also fun when I get to look into other topics, though! For the latest scenes with Paul Dare, I've read up a lot on the history of tattooing and other body modification. The state of the art in the 1920s and 30s wasn't quite what you might expect! The electric tattoo pen already existed, based on similar tool invented by Edison.
However, from what I can tell, colorful inks weren't popular or available, so virtually all tattoos would have been black or blue. Additionally, many of the artistic styles we associate with tattoos today didn't exist yet. Even the "old school" or "traditional" style has evolved since then, to my eye. A lot of its motifs (along with more colors) originated from the work of Sailor Jerry in the 40s.
Next Release
The next version of Ruin Me should be out tomorrow or Friday. I'm planning to finish the Shrike minor ruination and write the Deep Throat training scene for Theresa. I may also revise a bit more of the user interface, to bring it closer to the improvements already made to the dialogue visuals.
I've intended to update Theresa's kneeling POV pose for weeks now, but haven't yet felt able to focus on it and give it the careful revision it needs. Hopefully, I can get that done next week.
Let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! I'm always happy to hear from you, whether it's in the comments here or via a private message. Thank you so much for your continued support.
