Hey, I think it's ok to vent. I totally agree with your point on Frost v. Nixon that we need to hold people more accountable than just an unflattering interview (looking at you: the lack of prosecution under Obama for the Iraq war & 2008 crash). That being said, I don't think framing this argument in the context of the 2020 Democratic Primary is apt. The primary & November general election isn't a choice between paying Trump for an unflattering interview vs. prosecuting him, it's our attempt to get him out of the most powerful position in the country. It will be supremely disappointing if Trump doesn’t face trial for his crimes, yes, but it would be orders of magnitude worse for him to remain in the presidency. And like it or not, the majority of primary votes have chosen Biden as the best bet of beating Trump (which I say as a Bernie donor). When you say at 23:02 that “every few years it becomes a choice between the man who doesn’t represent my interests, and the man who doesn’t represent my interests but more”, I think that’s a super oversimplification. I would love it if Biden went all in on single payer, but expanding medicare is a step in the right direction, whereas Trump & the GOP have tried their hardest to remove the ACA & protections for preexisting conditions- a step backwards. With Biden we are at least making progress (not staying in place, as was implied in the video), while the danger of Trump is making things worse. To say they both don't “represent my interests” misses the point. I’m also not sure what you mean when you say at 21:46 every four years you have to choose between activism & voting… We all can & should be doing both (to the extent of our capabilities). I fully intend to vote & canvass for Biden, but I will also be working to push more progressive policies and electeds within the DNC & at state & local levels. Voting for president is essential, but we also need to build a foundation to continue pushing for progressivism. Anyway, I’m really sorry you’re feeling bad from Bernie dropping out- I know it blows when your candidate doesn’t make it (how I felt after Warren’s polling dropped….). But I guess I wanted to reach out & encourage progressive activism with an eye on building support within the Democratic Party & making institutional change- which includes voting pragmatically for a president who will be more receptive to our idea.
