What's Up Next

Howdy, folks. Wanted to give a quick update now that I'm prepping up for the real meat of our next video following the Alice In Wonderland critique. I've been posting a bit on Twitter about what you might expect, but recent developments have come about that have messed with my head a bit and made me want to shift gears. 

Long story short, though I'm (mostly?) happy with how the Alice video turned out, it happened to coincide very closely with the release of a series of videos that basically exposed every inadequacy I feel as a YouTube creator right now. Namely;

• Thought Slime's Am I Valid 
• Three Arrows' Was Hitler A Socialist?  

and, most of all, 

• PhilosophyTube's Suicide & Mental Health 

All of these came out within hours of my own video. What I observed were three videos, the latter primarily, that managed to combine engaging topics with thorough research into important issues seamlessly blended with deeply personal accounts. It made me reflect a lot on my own work, realise the number of things I feel like I want to touch on with my content, and the danger of getting myself into a rut that I can see occurring. I want to analyse media, I want to talk politics and academia, and I want to be able to use personal experience to help turn that into engaging material - but, at least as far as what I had planned, I feel like I'm setting myself to just be... a dude what makes video essays ranting about my opinions on movies. So, I want to change things up.

Does this mean I'm now going to stop doing video essays ranting about my opinions on movies? Certainly not. And this is definitely not me trying to downplay that style of content - it's honestly a huge part of what I watch. But it does mean I want to diversify in terms of the content I provide, similarly to what I did when I first started the channel (shifting gears from social media analysis to media critique). Think of it like, I dunno, a bakery deciding to make cookies as well as doughnuts or something. 

The exact specifics of what I'm doing now may seem vague, but I guess what I'll say for now is - expect something a little more creative, a very different style to what we had before, and (hopefully) still hitting those political and media representational beats you've enjoyed so far with my work. After that, we will probably return to something a little more 'expected' for my channel. A heads up that as a result of this, we'll likely have a delay - getting used to a new way of doing things, there may be some changes. Expect the video either late this week or early next.
