Hayley begins her solicitation of advice after summarizing Daisy’s recent confession. “Ayyla, a wonderful thing about you is how protective you can be of Daisy. Now, while I’m not asking permission to do this with her, it’s probably for the best to include you. She might… be doing what siblings do best. Perhaps she sees how you and Beatrice fit together like two puzzle pieces and confuses our friendship for a budding romantic one.” Blowing softly to cool off her tea, Beatrice mulls it over.

“That’s possible… but Ayyla and I were basically lovers without knowing it. Are you certain this isn’t the same? The first time Ay went in for a kiss I didn’t respond well and had to take some time away. I gave those feelings some deep thought and realized what our relationship had been for a while, teasing aside. You could be the one in my shoes at this point, pushing her away could break her heart. I’m not sure how you might learn from our situation but is there anything you’re missing? I’m not the direct friend or sibling, of course.”

“Right. I’m not certain and that’s the risk. But yes, I have been giving some other things thought and saying them out loud might help me work it out. Daisy and I didn’t grow up together but… in a way we have. Our growths have meant we can both relate to one another like nobody else. Not just that, but hobbies… interests, if there’s one thing I’m sure of it’s that Daisy and I have become close over the past five or so years. Going from not knowing one another to almost… sisters, I hope you take no offense Ayyla when I say she’s become family to me.

“I don’t treat your words lightly, Hayley, I swear. I can see it… Daisy and I have been raised together and are sisters for sure. But small scuffles aside, there’s been a shift as a distance between us has developed… I believe you’ve been there for her as a new person in her life that relates to her in ways I’ve been unable. It’s a failing on my part, I think. We’re all friends in this group of ours but I want to be a better sister to her. We both can be, there may not be room for us in some places but our family will always have room for you in whatever label lands best. Now I’m sure you’ve got a plan for what you’ll do next… but that might be between yourself and Daisy. We support whatever it may be.”

Smiling, hugging, Hayley departs on good terms as she sets her mind to a path forward. Daisy has expressed feelings that need exploration, though done in a way that doesn’t overstep and preserves any current and future relationships they have with other parties in the friends group.
