Darlene tip-toes over to a watchful Roger. “Hiding today? You were more fun at the pool party.”
“I’m just the host, no need for a lot of attention today. I figured I’d leave the drinking to everyone else.” Roger says, smiling and accepting the drink.
“Playing the chaperone? Kidding. Here, that’s why I brought my big guy a soda.”

You know what I mean. Honestly Roger it’s admirable how modest you are. With a bulge that big you could have half the city on their knees.
I’m sure I could. It’s just not who I am. I didn’t ask for this, it just kind of …grew.

Coyly, Darlene lets her tone lower to a whisper. “And grow it did. How many inches are you up to, twelve? Thirteen? You know, I’m still doing some growing myself…” Roger keeps his tone steady with an answer.
“Fourteen is the number. And I doubt it’ll grow anymore Darlene, we’ve resolved it.”
“Fucking hell, I’d love to see it again if the bedroom is available. Shall we?”

“No, listen… No. Darlene, I know what this is. I’m sorry, it’s just not going to happen.” Putting a stop to the flirt, Roger puts his drink down.
“…Shit. I’ve fucked this up.”
“You have, but I understand. You’re smart, you’re pretty, but I’ve only had eyes for one girl for the past three years.” Roger gently holds Darlene’s shoulder and consoles her.
“sigh… I hear you.”

“Look, I’m sorry. Call me a witch for trying to stir something, but-“
Roger interjects. “Don’t be too hard on yourself. I think there’s a guy out there for you, it’s just not me. I mean, look where we are.”
Embraced in a hug, Darlene mumbles softly. “Honestly, this is a great example of how alcohol can cause me to act without thinking.”
