January 2028 | Hayley is Celebrating her Birthday Page 1

“Sure you won’t come back? Business was good with you minding the door, as well as keeping unsavoriness out…” The manager of Club Mirror makes a final pitch to bring Hayley back as a bouncer. Two months had passed and while Hayley was starting to need the money, she shook her head.

“It wasn’t about the money, Joel. I didn’t like intimidating people.” Hayley, Claryssa and Darlene are out for drinks celebrating her 29th birthday. The invite was also sent to Daisy and Ayyla, the sisters arriving fashionably late.

The sound of a bottle and a glass clinking rings out as Claryssa and Hayley toast to a good evening. “Enjoy yourself, Hayley! Tonight’s a girl’s night in your honor. We’ll pick up the tab, don’t worry about money tonight.”

Hayley is thankful. “I won’t, Cee. You all didn’t have to do this, normally I keep my birthdays-“

“Low key, I know. But we wanted to do something for you, and figured you’d enjoy coming back to Club Mirror as a patron. Wasn’t as fun when you were outside.”

The girls bring their drinks and then some to a lounge area of the club. Hits from the 80’s blast as Hayley laughs, enjoying the camaraderie of her friends. Having grown apart from her high school and college acquaintances, Hayley was thankful to have found new ones through various connections. It better still that these friends were also connected in more than one way, and so spending time together was both common and enjoyable.

Several songs requested by Claryssa brought the girls onto the dance floor. Kicking their shoes off, good times were had and the sound the girls made both by laughing and parroting lyrics helped fill the dance hall. After a dozen hits the girls began to wind down, exhausted from dancing and drinking.

At the end of the night, Ayyla is paying off her tab and Hayley walks over, staggering slightly. “…Ayyla… You…Make me want more…”

“More what?” Ayyla asks, but when she looks up at Hayley her brow furrows. “Oh Hayley…You’ve had too much…”

“Everything about you ish …huge… *hic*…” Shaking her head, Ayyla steadies the birthday girl and helps her outside, Hayley’s boyfriend Roger having come to ferry the girls home.
