July 2020 Patron Polls

Hello patrons and welcome to another set of patron polls!

This month, we'll be polling on some added gameplay systems for our dark fantasy title!  Specifically, I am considering two systems in particular, a weather system, and a pregnancy system.  For this month's polls I'd like to see where the interest lies!

WEATHER:
There has been a lot of feedback about how the desperation and darker, sombre mood of the Prologue is somewhat lost once you reach the Isles. This is mainly because the Isles is more open-world, and the Prologue is fairly linear. As a result, it's easier to instill a sense of dread by limiting the player's options and resources in the Prologue.  The purpose of the weather system is not only to make the game seem more dynamic, but also to bring back this sense of desperation by adding a severe, dangerous kind of RNG. For instance, when Claire transitions from one Valos city map to another, there may be a 1:3 chance of a sudden downpour.

During the downpour, all other NPCs (including guards) will disappear, leaving only weather-specific NPCs. All doors will also be locked, with a sign saying "Closed due to inclement weather", except for inns. If Claire enters an inn, she will be 'safe'. If not, she is at the mercy of whatever the rain brings. One such event is that a gang of attackers may spawn in the rain, and take advantage of the soaked and vulnerable Claire if she does not seek shelter in time. A high Defiance Claire might still overcome such situations, or a high Intrigue Claire could escape it, while a Depraved Claire might enjoy it, and so on so forth.  By adding events like these, it keeps the game more unpredictable, and also brings back the dread and trepidation that stalks you around the Prologue areas.

PREGNANCY: Currently any pregnancy situations encountered are gameovers or monster-related. The idea is to introduce a risk of impregnation from the human encounters for Claire as well, that do not end in a gameover. Each encounter has a chance of insemination (with the potential for absolute fertility events as well).  If impregnated, 'warning' messages will prompt, such as Claire feeling morning sickness or hip pains, and a step counter will begin to countdown.

Once it reaches zero, Claire will become visibly pregnant and become disabled. This will automatically cause her stop what she is doing and travel from wherever she is to a midwifery location, where she will deliver the baby; the midwife will then promise to find a good family to adopt the child.

Let me know which of these systems (if not all of them) you'd enjoy! Vote now!

When you put in perspective that there is a feature that will please only part of the niche, and that will be even a togglable option, and another that will be there for everyone to see (weather). I do think that going with weather over pregnancy might actually be a better idea because more people will enjoy. Imagine adding this layer of complexity to the game. Imagine all the events and art that would need to be reviewed or blocked until the character end their pregnancy period, or then the thing about having to deal with a kid and so on.... All this effort for some parcel of the public just disable and never see. ps. I myself find pregnancy a huge turn off and would definable disable it if I could.

Corintio

Oh nice so your worrking on it. So this system will be only human preg end well? as i stated before how about claire with enough intrigue/defiance can escape orcs for example? Im just asking i will support the project either way ;D gg

Gabz

Because it's quite on the fringe of content that people like, a questline for it won't be that acceptable to everyone (quite a bit of resources), so it'll probably be kept to limited encounters

ArchitectOfDystopia

maybe.. much like the ranch concept, pregnancy can be 'expanded' upon through orphanages managed by refugees from the continent that escaped to the isles(betty and co are one of such groups), soooo this allows preganancy to be treated as an ongoing thingy, as claire travels between the isles

ralchemilla

Yep! It's pretty fringe so definitely! It may even only show up once we add a "difficulty" setting to CQ.

ArchitectOfDystopia

Will there be an option to disable pregnancy if both get the greenlight? I'm not into pregnancy type games, but the weather option sounds good.

ThatArBloke

I think a weather system is a brilliant idea, reminding us and claire that we are never safe adds another level of excitement

Alpal

Both votes altough pregnancy one is the most appealing to me. It may open a lot of interesting possibilities

Emilio Alpha

It'd be cool to see the pregnancy system implemented for some of the smarter/organized monster critters too, as I imagine they'd have a vested interest in keeping a 'nursery' of sorts.

Alexi Valentine

Of course, it will be a toggle option!

ArchitectOfDystopia

It would be nice to be able to visit the kids for some fluff, but as far as I know the closest thing to a house we have is the ranch. Could be nice to have some sort of babysitter/orphanage/church NPC that takes care for them and maybe adds some quests.

I voted for pregnancy content but both are good too.

Lee Thompson

Agree with having the option to turn off pregnancy content but please please PLEASE pregnancy content! Love the idea! Also think it would be nice to be able to visit with the children or even keep them if Claire later has her own estate so there's some story consequence and not just bye bye baby.

lollerskates

I would suggest having a option to turn off pregnancy content as it is not everyones cup of tea and could be major turn off to some.

Khalma

Just why? Just vote for what you want thats fine, but just why?

Alice

Pregnancy by rape sounds good and ideal! I wouldn't advocate it in real life, but this is a game; plus realistically, women have given birth to babies whose "father" were rapists.

Bobbie Tshwmtxuj Chang

awesome ideas!
