I usually talk about things ongoing... sometimes I dont... sometimes people arent sure of whats going on with me, and sometimes I come out and tell everything. This post is actually irrelevant for the stuff I'm currently drawing, but actually quite important about my life and art in general.
10 years ago, an artist that I adored told me that I had no future at art. That broke me. But I've already told that story a couple times.
Thing is, I started to work to improve seriously around one year ago. Like, I started doing daily practices, to improve my anatomy, my lines and so. The upgrades Victor went with are part of that improvement. The eyes, the little claws, the beans in his hands, etc.
I have a goal. I'll learn enough to come back to the person telling me that I had no future, I'll drop a picture of Victor drawn in a style as closer as theirs as possible, with their coloring style and everything. I know this sounds terribly selfish, but its one of my motivations.
However, practicing showed me several things that I gotta improve not only with time, but also with practice. I wont be listing them, but I'll basically say that if I pull these well I am confident that I'll get pretty popular, over all if I apply that in non-fetish stories and so.
Also that leads to another thing. I've been using manga as a reference, the most big ones are ポケモン (Pokémon), 苺ましまろ (Strawberry Marshmallow) and lately メイドインアビス (Made in Abyss). I think it isn't a surprise for anybody that my comics have borrowed several things from them, and I'll keep improving. And that doesn't even count the incredibly adorable Japanese artists I've found on Twitter. That's why my art tends to have very round shapes in general.
I've wanted to return Japan something in return for all the things I've learned from them, but I don't know what. My knowledge of Japanese language ranges between nothing and "Use Google Translate for this". I do have some Japanese followers, and I want to be respectful too. I know language creates a barrier (and the fact my comics are drawn in western style- left to right), but I want to find a way to get over these limitations. Maybe flipping some of my comics horizontally, asking a friend to help me translate/proof read and then posting on Pixiv? Maybe a little comic exclusively in Japanese? I don't know. All I know is that I want to express my gratitude for the things I've learned from Japanese artists, both professional and amateurs alike.
Finally, I would like to know your thoughts about all this. About the style in itself, about what I want to do at some point, what do you think about the evolution of my style and about my motivation.
