Official statement about Patreon's fee changes

Heyo. I was going to put this statement after uploading everything, but I still have work to do and I don't want to postpone this anymore.

It isn't a secret what's happening with Patreon. They sent everyone a mail already, and we artists were notified just one day before. I honestly want to believe they're doing things in good faith and that this is just a pretty bad idea they're trying to push. I still have hopes that they will revert all this before December 18th.

I think I dont need to say that I'm completely opposed to what they're doing.

I won't lose time explaining the changes Patreon is doing to the fees; I think the mail explains it clearly and Twitter is on fire explaining about it. I also made a journal in fA about it. However, I want to explain what I'm going to do myself.

If these changes are pushed and go live and we aren't given a way to opt-out of that, on Christmas or so I'm going to sit down, I'm going to do some calculations and to lower the tiers accordingly.

Sadly I can't do anything for all the peeps that pledge $1. I wish i could do something, honestly. Patreon doesn't let me set perks for fractions of dollar, so I can't set up a perk for 63 cents (so peeps get charged $1.00).

The same goes for higher rewards. I can't set up a $4.51 tier.

However, I can round down to the closest dollar. e.g. $4 instead of $5, $14 instead of $15, $43 instead of $45... you get the idea.

And in the description of the tier I'll say very clearly "You'll be charged $(amount) for this". That way new supporters won't have any nasty surprises. Old supporters will be able to edit their rewards accordingly and so.

Does it suck? Of course. It isn't about lowering the amount (after all for my rewards I'd be "losing" at most 1 or 2 bucks). The problem is deeper than that. The problem, as you probably already know, is that fucks all the peeps who actually support me with $1 or $5. It irks me hard that I can't do anything for these peeps. Sure, bigger pledgers still have to pay some extra, but the hit doesnt feel as terrible in these situations.

If Patreon updates this, or offers the chance to opt-out of this disaster, I'll gladly take it. And in January I'll give a look to Drip, if Kickstarter lets normal people join. We'll see.

Ugh. This is giving me a massive headache. Things right now are way too weird and the moods aren't the best right now.

Anyways, I love you all. Talk to you later or tomorrow, that I'll be uploading more things.

A last thing. If you want to complain, use the help desk to leave your feedback, tell them on twitter or whatever, please please please be polite and keep the calm. The more you insult/offend, the less mature our request will look, and we'll be seen just as whiny kids doing a tantrum for no reason.

Greetings. I love you all.

I posted my take on the situation as well as my email to Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/my-take-on-new-15763641 Generally I agree with the concept, but am upset at how the 0.35$ constant will hurt <= 5$ supporters and would like them to rethink the numbers to be considerate toward small patrons.
