In an attempt to capture 2 years worth of incidentals, I went to upgrade a gold to a platinum business card
Initial reps seemed to make it sound like this could be done online on my own by clicking a link
Nothing that I did seemed to support that including spinning the card off to its own login
So I hung up and chat it again and got a rep to process the upgrade with no potential upgrade bonus
There are and have historically been great upgrade bonuses so that's something to consider as well
I asked the rep about my employee cards and was assured that they would process as no fee expense cards
That didn't happen in $2,000 worth of annual fees hit the card
I chatted to unwind that as soon as I noticed it and have started work on the incidentals.
Brings up the idea of a gold to platinum personal upgrade for $200 on either side of the calendar. That one can be done online

Reconsideration resulted in a letter from Amex requesting 4506-C form to allow Amex access to tax returns for income verification AND a letter from a bank on their letterhead verifying my address along with a banker’s name, signature and hours of availability
Enlisted the help of my favorite private bank…Onyx!
Submitted docs electronically to Amex. We’ll see…
Discuss: Is this what it’s going to take to churn Amex cards going forward? What’s tripping applications into this state? It seems to coincide with getting a duplicate application reconsidered but there has to be more to it than that, right?
