Bodacia, flabbergasted as she was, trusted her gut when it told her that she had nothing to fear from the magical sleigh or its drivers. "Um... well, okay. Thank you!" She climbed up and just managed to squeeze in between the two elves. It was surprisingly warm and comfortable in the sleigh! More Christmas magic...?
With a flick of the reigns, the reindeer took to the sky, and Bodacia's breath was taken away again as the sleigh rose up above the treetops, so smoothly it hardly felt like they were moving at all!
"So..." she said to the small drivers to either side of her. "Isn't it a little early to be delivering toys? And doesn't Santa usually do it, anyway?"
"Oh no no, this is just a dry run, we're only packing ballast back there. The weeks leading up to the big night, we gotta do rigorous fine tuning, calibrations for the estimated mass of this year's delivery, last-minute calls on reindeer team placement... all them nuts and bolts so everything goes smooth for the boss when the starting pistol pops."
"Wow, that sounds super important! But... am I throwing you off or something, you stopping and giving me a ride like this?"
"Well... boss'd understand, I'm sure. Don't feel right seeing a damsel in distress and doin' nuthin just cuz we're on a schedule, anyway."
"I hope he appreciates you two! You're rockstars, you totally saved my ass back there!"
"Shucks lady, we don't do it for fame or nuthin'. Hard work, but it's for all them good kids out there."
"Well, you two are DEFINITELY on my good list! Hmmm... I wonder, if there's anything I could do for you to show MY appreciation...?"
It turned out, there absolutely was. And everyone involved had to agree, it was one of the best Christmases they'd EVER had.
~The End~
(Happy Holidays, all!!)
