Canutes ideals are pretty hard to grasp, from what i can tell he wants to unify all the vikings so they dont have anyone else to fight. essentially stopping the violence by conquering every nation. thats why he took denmark from his brother. the more control he has the less fighting will occur. Einar questioned it saying who will save the people you kill to achieve this. however canute believes in the ends justify the means. even in season 1 he says "i may not be able to achieve it in one generation but i will take the first step". So him " unifying the Vikings to fight god" is challenging gods logic and creating a paradise on earth
